Ahh yes! Reminds me of Luther Dickinson.

Beautiful is probably the best description for Trucks… Great stuff

How.

So.

Young.

Mark 4:34 lick did it for me, right when the fuckin’ cameraman pans away,Fuckin’ Asshole! He played it kinda again near the end, like a wiggle, nice.

ID sit down and watch the Eric Clapton “Crossroads 2010,” That’s where I pulled Midnight in Harlem and the Robert Randolph and the Family Band vids. Pretty great, minus Bill Murray bombing in between sets.

I think it’s still on Netflix instant if you have it.

The best thing Derek Trucks ever did was marry Susan Tedeschi. Can you imagine the inherent musical talent their kids must have?

Yeah totally.

Tedeschi has an incredibly soulful voice too. Their kid has the genetic potential to be a blues Voltron or something.

Hahaha. I saw her perform at a blues fest right outside of Houston in the early 2000’s. She did her version of John Prine’s “Angel from Montgomery” that blew the roof off the pavilion. If y’all get a chance to see her live, do it. Her voice is dynamite.

No matter who you are it’s still gotta be cool to have Warren Hayes count you in. 1:50 mark or so.

Jack basically gets in a fistfight with his guitar the first couple minutes of this video, then, almost like breaking a horse, he finally mounts it and takes control around the 2:30 mark. At 2:42 you can actually hear him tell it to “giddy up”

Effing amazing.

…and it’s cool to see a song evolve with the same artist. Same dude, same guitar, but this song grew fur, fangs, claws, and gained about 400 lbs.

(Iron Dwarf slowly backs out of thread so as not have to insult Jack White and his fans).

ID,

Doesn’t matter to me if you don’t dig JW, talk all the shit you want. I’d honestly like to hear an educated opinion that varies from mine. Because honestly, JW could fart sideways out of a pair of tighty whities and as long as it was put on wax I’d take listen or two

Brad, if you like Phil Collins you and ID could do battle like Ralph Macchio and Steve Vie lol.

I actually liked that movie.

I like some of the white stripes songs but that icky thump album did not strike a chord(pardon the pun, couldn’t resist) with me. Some of the solos sounded like he was skinning a cat, him and Neil Young both.

No Ry Cooder yet, I was lead to believe he is a slide guitar God, in fact he did the soundtrack for Crossroads.

I will have to check that dude out.

White stripes for me were hit and miss, same for the Raccontours (sp), Dead Weather, however, I like all of their stuff, and funny enough Jack is on drums, haha.

Take it easy, big guy!
Frankly, I had the “De Stijl”, “White Blood Cells”, and “Elephant” albums in my iTunes library.
The thing that attracted to JW initially was his throwback playing. I thought it was great that perhaps he’d lead a young generation back to the greats (I had an argument a while ago with a girl who thought Jack White was a God. When I mentioned his influences, she had no idea who these guys were. So much for educating the young generation).

When I started reading reviews from rock critics (they were calling him brilliant), it pissed me off because over 3 decades ago the fucking critics lambasted Led Zeppelin for “borrowing” from blues greats. Now the critics were seemingly ignorant of the blues past while crediting White with his “innovations” (White even borrows from Jimmy Page… which is cool). Although I admire his taste in music, his “toss-off” approach to the blues and guitar in general, he’s doesn’t inspire me otherwise (though some of his lesser songs like “We’re Gonna Be Friends” have a certain delicacy and poignancy that I enjoy)

Anyway, I threw all my White Stripes stuff out after that and went back to listening to the originals.
