Yeah. I’m not on technical keto right now though because of it. Just moved to New Orleans to be closer to my larger family and they all have a drinking problem.
Did you consume alcohol while doing the keto diet? I tried it and got nowhere but that was before TRT. Im getting rid of the booze too so maybe I should give it another go after a little while.
I did but mostly vodka & seltzer water when I drank. Even drinking beer now and doing keto (although probably not in ketosis because of it) I still feel really good and haven’t gained any fat. I drink 3ish beers a night too.
Was that on TRT?
I only started did keto about 4 months before TRT and did not drink but maybe 2 nights a week then.
I am not sure you can be in keto and drink. They have test strips for that. Have you tested yourself? Even if you are not in full ketos The reduction in carbs really does make a difference in how much fat you hold. The older you get the more carbs hurt you and if you are on TRT you just don’t need carbs at all. Protein and good fats will do everything. Yes I know i love carbs to but for body building on TRT they are just not needed. An yes I cheat so sue me.
On the subject of metformin, I have found thru blood tests it sucks-up a crap load of B12. I just got my doc to give me a script for B12 injections. I will report back if it helps. If you are on metformin you really should watch your B12 and add it to your bi-yearly blood tests. I eat lean steak 4 times a week and almost 3 doz eggs and my B12 barely made it into range.

You can get away with the occasional vodka/water and stay in keto. I’ve got a blood ketone meter but you are correct it’s not ideal. I’m now doing more of the “as close to keto as I can get diet”. Carbs are not my friend these days.
That’s interesting about metformin and B12. I take 1000mcg methylcobalamin sublingual lozenges daily so I should be good to go but I will keep an eye on that for sure. They are about $8 for 2 months worth on Amazon and are supposed to be as effective as the shots (if for some weird reason you can’t get shots) . I used to do the shots but I like the lozenges better because I can feel that sucker kick in shortly after taking it.
It is my understanding Dex, B12 does not do very well making it thru our digestive track. Supplements are a waste of money. Eating lots of lean steak or shots are the only way to ensure you are boosting your B12. I already eat 4 filet mignons a week plus 4 lb chicken breast 1 lb of cod 2 doz eggs and my B12 is still low. I’m take 500mg metaformin breakfast and dinner.
What’s up guys, Im new to Trt about 4 months now. I’ve been reading this whole thread and it has helped. I just have so many questions And only see a doctor once every 3 months.
So I was started on sub q 120 per week split into 2 doses Sunday and Wednesday in my stomach. I use 25g 5/8 needle. I have felt better than before staring trt but nothing significant. Just had first labs and office visit. My test level total was 654.
Much better than no trt at 260. However this past Sunday I used same needle in my quad and wow Monday thru Wednesday . Crazy energy feel amazing and libido is through the roof. My question is, does that mean since I have less fat on my thigh I got the test into muscle so I did a IM? And if so should I stick with that or do I just need to raise dose and stay sub q in stomach?
I’m guessing that I had a spike like most guys who do IM talk about, then this morning felt back to how I felt so far on trt. I basically want to feel like I did Monday all the time I’m just worried with IM and I’m sure I spiked everything else with it. Is that feeling possible sub-q if I raise dose ?
I took my first B12 shot 1 ml yep a full insulin syringe and it made me sick for about 3 hours. All I have really noticed is my tinnitus has really reduced in volume. My 90 minute trap workout was pretty much the same. So no improvement in strength. I guess time will tell.
Hi @lbruno welcome to the forums have you consider starting your own thread? You will probably get more responses. You kind of jumped right into the middle of a discussion.
Yeah the regular b12 pills are crap. I took them for a year and my levels literally went down. Taking the methyl form of B12 sublingually is far superior
Since taking the sublingual lozenges my levels are at the top of the range (started at 700 with top range 1250).
It’s possible you did the shot in the muscle and since sub-q releases slower and IM much faster it would be akin to taking a larger dose (the previous sub-q does still releasing while the IM dose releases immediately so getting more at once). When I switched from sub-q to IM I had the same thing happen the first week. You’re basically feeling what you’d feel on a higher dose. Many will say 650 total T on 120mg is fine but personally I require a higher dosage to get the positive effects of TRT. Try upping the dose if your current dosage isn’t cutting it and you’ve given it ample time (4 months is more than enough). Try 140mg and give it 6-8 weeks and assess. Keep in mind those first 6 weeks may come with issues that you need to be patient with as they will going away on their own.
Based on what exactly? First time I am hearing this.
Sorry about that. I also new to this whole forum thing and don’t even know what. A thread is let alone how to start one.
Anyway thank you @dextermorgan for your reply . So basically what your saying is to stay sub q but raise dose and the feeling I had wasn’t so much IM but the level itself and I will get that felling more stable at a higher dose Sub q? I also saw you said you switched to IM, are you still using IM or went back to sub q?
I drank whiskey mixed with diet soda while in ketosis and had no problems. At least with the ketosis aspect. Definitely hit me faster and had hangovers off not very much though.
I had the worst hangover of my life getting drunk on beer while doing keto.
Anyway, I am sure it was just my hormone issues that caused problems with the keto. I did it strict for 3 months, with no booze, and lost like a pound. There was no recomp either. I was just as fat with all the same measurements.
I had my first “cheat” 2 days ago. It was keto ice cream but it had 24 grams of carbs in a pint. I ate the whole pint in one sitting. It was delicious but made me sick as a dog afterwards. I felt like crap all day yesterday. It felt like a hangover or like a mild depression. OFF KETO ICE CREAM! Won’t be doing that again. I feel to good on keto. I did 23andme and I’m over 50% Irish. I did some digging into ancient Irish diets and found that cattle and dairy were a massive part of the Irish diet. Specifically sour milk or sour cream and butter. Makes sense with the keto diet. Nordic people from higher latitudes survived on mostly meat due to the colder climates and lack of fruits and vegatables.
Interesting. I came in at 77.9% British & Irish but have a genetic variant that keeps me from handling saturated fats very well.
@lbruno
Stay sub-q so when you up the dose you know what is attributed to that instead of trying to figure out if it’s the dose or just getting used to IM. Personally I do IM now but there really isn’t much difference. Sub-q is probably the better route especially in the beginning since it slowly releases which for me meant less side effects or ups & downs.
