OK, so recently had some blood tests done for my annual physical, even though I was in and out of the Docs office in like 5 minutes, he seemed a bit too busy to do a complete physical…
Anyway, cholestoral is perfect, sugar is great, blood pressure is wonderful, but my liver function is a bit high…
Here are my numbers:
GLUCOSE FBS - 95
BILI Total - 1.2 - normal ranges are .2-1.1
BILI DIRECT - .2
GOT [AST] - 34
GPT [ALT] - 53 - normal on this is 2-38
ALK PHOS - 63
Now, here’s the thing… I did some reading before I posted this, on this site as well as WebMD. Anyway, from what I can gather high - intensive workouts can cause these numbers to be elevated. 16 hours before I got my blood drawn, I had a pretty intense CW - TBT workout 3 sets of 8 doing just about all multi joint movements…
Did my Doc ask me this? He knows I workout and lift and even in the past asked me if I used steriods… Nope, didn’t ask… But… Mentioned that my #'s could be high because of my protien shakes… Come on!!! I only use Biotest stuff and normally have 3-4 scoops a day along with a low carb balanced diet…
So this is my plan… I’m not going to lift after next Thursday… Taking a long weekend off, going away… Not going to drink at all, other then a few beers on the weekends I normally don’t drink anyway… Then, Monday morning I’m going to get my blood drawn again…
Should I be good? What do you think??? What if they come back high again? Is this really an issue?
I had several abnormal liver function readings in the past.
My numbers were definitely not workout related, as I did not exercise at the time. Alcohol threw my numbers out of whack. After quitting all alcohol, and straightening my diet, my numbers came back perfect. Don’t know if you drink or not, yours may be workout related…I’m just offering another idea as to why your numbers are off. The first time my results came back, I had drank several beers the day before, but did my fast. The next time, I didn’t drink for a week, and they were still spiked. When I quit completely, I had another test done, this time it had been over 2 months since my last alcoholic beverage, and my numbers were perfect. Hope that helps a little.
Hey man, I’m having the same problem, I started a thread on it, there were some good ideas. Mostly don’t workout before you get you blood tested. Let me know how yours goes, I’ll do the same.

Thanks… Yeah, I might have a few beers here and there on the weekends, but for the most part I don’t “drink”… Thanks…

Yeah, I actually read your post when I did a search for blood test of liver function or something… It just aggervates me that “it could be your protien shake” - What??? Should I be a vegetarian or something???
Could it be the protien bars I eat occasionally or just the shakes doc??? Also, like mentioned is the Cy article… Labs have different exceptable #'s, so what do they really mean and what is a high # and damn it… Why didn’t my doc ask me when I worked out before having these tests done?
When are you getting your 2nd results? I’m going to get my blood drawn probably next Monday… I won’t lift after this Thursday, I’m going to drink a poop load of water this week as well and not drink any alcohol which sucks cause I’m going to visit my grand paretns at the beach this weekend and my favorite pizza place is there and there’s nothing like a beer with some pizza…
