@readalot Respect sir! Always enjoy your wisdom. Two questions:
For us older hardcore lifters (50+) who only know one way to do it (balls out!), what is the best advise for still putting on muscle (AAS aside) with respect to cardiovascular health? I know studies have proven that high rep workouts can be just as effective but its a hard transition for guys like me. Makes me feel like I should be training at that mass market gym where you’re not allowed to make noise or they throw you out.
Any advice on natural supps to regulate blood pressure? Obviously reduce sodium, etc
My current approach is running test only. I experimented with test+nandrolone and oxandrolone and nandrolone really spiked the BP. At least for me it seemed to really affect endothelial function. I was routinely up to 140/90+.
Currently I am running 160 mg/week of test cyp and stronger (same weight) but BP is 120/80 almost all day long. So using no other AAS. Yes this is pushing it for me (not TRT).
After my heart scare and since I do mostly modified keto (way more protein than keto allows), I use a Rx potassium supplement and chelated Mg supplement. Try to keep sodium real low as you say.
I dont know, i tried bodypump classes for a while but there is no substitute for reasonably heavy lifting (great form of course). I have made up my mind it is worth the risk. The other stupid thing I used to do along with heavy lifting was hard HIIT Tabata style. Probably real dumb to do on nandrolone or elevated androgen levels. I still do reasonably hard cardio but not redlining the HR anymore. I want to minimize any arrhythmia issues if I can. I was bummed but skipped the Murph this year as I am currently pretty heavy.
I am wondering, do you adjust your meds when blasting more gear? You mention getting 140 / 90 measurements while on more. I’d think with BP meds on hand, that you could combat this with a bit higher dose, or perhaps a combo of drugs (I’ve heard mixing different classes of BP meds can have a 1+1=3 effect).
A bigger body requires more work for the heart. For a lifter the size / mass of their body is controlled by BF% and muscle mass. We can somewhat keep our bodies a “normal” size while having a lot of muscle by being very lean. My advice for longevity if you are going to have significantly more muscle mass than you normally would if you didn’t train is to be lean. I figure it looks better on almost everyone anyways. I get way more comments about being muscular being 25 lbs lighter than I was when I was the most muscular and also had more fat.
Aside from that, do your cardio. Super underrated IMO. It also helps with being lean. I don’t over do it. I just walk on an incline (better for joints and burns more calories) every gym session. I’ll change things around based on my goals, but I don’t plan on ever getting rid of that habbit.
If you have high BP, get on BP meds IMO. Natural isn’t necessarily healthier. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you are assuming a natural supp is healthier, or less likely to have side effects, right? That isn’t always true. IMO, the BP drugs are amazing, cheap, and if done right, most people can’t tell they are taking anything, aside from having lower BP. I think it isn’t logical to not want to take something just because it is a pharma drug. They can make you healthier.
100%. I even go to the gym with a higher rep plan and end up lifting heavy. Just can’t do it. For my entire life “Heavy Duty” principals ala Mentzer and Yates have always been the best (and really only way) to gains for me. I guess you gotta die of somethin…
No. I have prescription for a specific dose. I really need to find a new doctor to start fucking with this. The one i have just sends me 3 months worth prescription and thats it. I have tought of looking into it but high BP doesnt scare me if its only when im blasting and bloated. Its just a normal side effect. I also dont think i will be blasting that much more than once again probably.
I did get an illegal telmisartan and it didn’t do shit for me at any dose. Thats why i dont think that doubling up on anything will fiz a BP that’s high because of grams of gear.
