I’ve been on for about 2 months now, and I’ve noticed I’m getting canker sores and bleeding gums. I’m a regular brusher and I haven’t noticed any goop stuck in the teeth. Has anyone experienced this with low carb diets?
Do you eat vegetables? Sounds like vitamin c deficiency. See a doctor.
Providing there isn’t a vitamin/mineral defficiency and you floss/brush/rinse twice a day…
There’s a good chance it’s due to eating too much in the way of soft foods!
It’s a trend I noticed when I spent three years working as a dental assistant. The dentist highlighted it to me also… Everything soften’s up… sensitivity seems to shoot up… and the moment you bite into a lovely juicey apple and you look down - the damn things covered with specks of blood!
Celery, nuts, etc. should do the trick without sabbotaging your diet.
You should probably see a dentist if there are no other symptoms.
EDIT: I have lost a lot of patience with GP’s… if possible see a specialist straight away!
“Other possible causes of gingivitis include breathing through the mouth, badly fitting fillings irritating surrounding gum tissue, and a diet consisting of too many soft foods that rob the teeth and gums of much needed exercise.”
As an example.

Chewing lots of rubbery steak?

Good post…but let’s stress that he needs to see a dentist.
Your gums are adaptive…meaning that if they aren’t stimulated (flossing, brushing, textured/abrasive foods) then any insult will cause bleeding.
However, since a nutrition deficiency is also a possibility, get a doc to see you in person.

Well, it could also mean that he’s pregnant…so he may want to RUN to the dentist.
I think mouth pregnancy’s a negative. I’ll try some celery and stuff, thanks to benmoore. I get tons of Vit C, I take 2060-3060 mg a day. This started not that long ago, with a major diet change for me, so I think they’re probably linked. Thanks for the thoughts, guys.
I used to have that problem, and it was not because of any deficiency. Recently I switched to an electrical toothbrush. I always thought it was bullshit, but my gums are in excellent health now, and the teeth are whiter as well.
I used to have this problem as well but it was due to dipping… a whole lot of dipping.
I quit dipping and this problem went away in a week. ![]()

Seriously. We all know the only reason Prof. X is a dentist is because he ate one. Literally consumed a dentist. It’s a fact.
bleeding gums is a good indicator of VITAMIN K deficiency. are you eating enough leafy green veggies? kale, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower…etc?
The canker sores I’m not so sure about however which has got me pondering over a defficiency.
you’re probably overcooking your steak… try cooking it on lower heat and covering it. Dont use too much pepper, either.
Also if you ever watched the matrix ‘why do my eyes hurt?’ ‘you’ve never used them before’
you’re probably eating real food for the first time in your life and your body will need time to adapt. Cant just gum down your meals anymore, actually gotta chew.
I doubt it’s any kind of vitamin deficiency… plenty of vitamines in meat and vegetables.

These responses are hilarious.
Hey, beeph…if it is a deficiency, will you pay the medical bills for being wrong?
Some allergic reactions can cause sores/bleeding in the mouth, as well.
Haha the number of ppl replying to this is crazy. Only things needing to be said was:
- anyone experiencing these symptoms on the anabolic diet? YAY/NAY… processing** …
INTERNET ANALYSIS IS WORTHLESS - SEE A DOCTOR/SEE A DENTIST.
Its like the guys who say ‘whats my bodyfat?’ with a single pic of their stomach OR the guys that say ‘should i bulk or should i cut’ without a single picture OR why am i getting fat? and not posting their diet, only stating they ‘eat well and train hard’. Ridiculous.
/end rant
Actually, It’s gone away with flossing and chewy stuff. And yes, I’ve been eating lots of kale and lettuce.
