Just wondering, since most of us eat like six meals a day do you brush your teeth more often? I’m wondering if brushing mine 2-3 times a day is enough when I’m eating six times throughout the day. However, I know if you brush too frequently then you can wear out the enamel on your teeth. Any thoughts on this?

lol, no.
The thing is, I think I have a cavity and I brush like 2-3 times a day…so I’m wondering if eating more frequently could be a problem.
depends on what you’re eating. if it’s sugary junk, I’d brush more often.
You should brush after every meal.
i brush at most once a day, significantly less (once every 3-4 days) if i’m on vacation/holiday
even when my diet was worse my teeth were fine as long as 1) i avoided any source of simple sugars and most fruits (veggies were fine) 2) water intake was high
similarly cut back on any acidic foods like citrus fruits and remove carbonated beverages
in my entire life i’ve only had 1-2 fillings
if you want to improve your teeth health remove all simple sugars from your diet (except for PWO) instead of worrying about brushing /flossing constantly
I brush 2 or 3 times a day. As I’m almost constantly eating when I have the chance, especially at work, brushing “after every meal” is not feasible.

My wife is a dental hygienist and she doesn’t like me brushing 3 times a day. So, I use a rinse or gum if I’m going to be meeting people just so I have some decent smelling breath.
Brushing after every meal isn’t necessary but 2 times a day is a must.
I asked my dentist about brushing too often. As long as you are not brushing too hard to hurt your gums, it is not a problem. It might be different if you use a whitening toothpaste. I do not.
Also with regards to hurting your gums, you might want to look into getting a soft bristle brush. When I was younger, I can remember brushing and brushing and flossing and flossing and my gums never really got much healthier, turns out it was because I was using a thick bristled brush, and I was just tearing them up too much. I switched to a soft brush for a while, gums got stronger, now I use a medium.
You can definitely damage your teeth by brushing too often. Especially, if you brush immediatley after a meal when the pH value in your mouth may be very low depending on what you have eaten. Wait at least 30 minutes after a meal before brushing your teeth.
Thoroughly brush after lunch and after the last meal of the day, go to the dentist 2 times per year for a dental cleaning and you should be fine.
P.S.: Why don’t you get you cavity fixed? It’s gonna get more expensive the longer you wait.

My appointment is on Monday. I think it’s a cavity…we’ll see. Anyway, the whole issue just made me think about how people who lift weights eat and we don’t do the traditional 3 meals per day, which is what brushing your teeth three times a day is based on. I was just wondering if eating twice as frequently changed anyone’s brushing habits and I also wondered whether it could contribute to a greater possibility of getting cavities.
Anyway, hopefully it’s not a cavity and just some stain. The thing is, I drink coffee daily…so it could be a stain. My sister had a similar dark spot on her tooth and it turned out not to be a cavity…crosses fingers
I’ve been through so much dental crap the past few years I really don’t want to deal with this. I’ve had jaw surgery, braces, crowns…the works…I’m sick of DENTIST!!!
I brush 1-2x a day (with an electric toothbrush), use mouthwash 2-3 times/day, and chew sugar-free gum after meals. Unfortunately, I have 3-4 cavities. Oh well. I don’t know if I have bad teeth or what.
I have thought about this topic before too.
I get up in the middle of the night to pee and chug down a protein drink that I have next to my bed. I always feel like I should brush my teeth afterwards but know that if I did I would not be able to fall back asleep.

You should give it a thought.
I brush twice a day and never actually considered brushing more frequently, even though I have at least 5 meals in a day. I’ve never had a cavity or any other type of tooth problems, so I guess its been out of mind.
This thread is kinda funny. I’ve 15 years in dental but I’m not a dentist so take it for whats it’s worth.
- floss your fucking teeth once a day
- Brush at least twice a day. Morning and night after your last meal
- floss your fucking teeth once a day
- if your prone to cavities then go ahead and brush more often
- floss your fucking teeth once a day
- a rx for fluoride doesn’t hurt or even in office when you get your teeth cleaned.
7.floss your fucking teeth once a day - Brush your teeth for 2 minutes, really. It’s like sex, you think your doing it for a long time but in reality you finished in 5 minutes.
I could go on but most important really is floss your damn teeth, most caries start from in between the teeth. Oh and when you floss and you have that crap on the floss when your done? Give it a good smell…
Ok one more amalgam is still better than white fillings for longevity. White fillings leak and really only last 3-5 years. Yeah your dentist will pull out statistics and articles about how they are comparable to silver but they aren’t.
Ok I’ll stop there but don’t forget to floss your damn teeth.

I’ve had the same 7 cavities for the last 12 years and there still exactly the same as they where 12 years ago. I still haven’t got them filled. You’ll be fine!
