A prosecutor takes an oath not to press charges unless he or she reasonably believes that there is evidence to prove guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt.” In this day of show-trials, not many prosecutors take that oath seriously, but they should.
As the evidence stands, there is no way a prosecutor could ethically meet that burden.
(Again, this does not mean Zimmerman is innocent. The Prosecutor takes an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States. To those ideals is the Prosecutor’s first duty, even if a potential criminal is let free.)
