Cherone was great with Extreme. Van Halen was not in his wheelhouse. Roth always reminded me of a cheap nightclub Vegas singer, which he ultimately became. I’ve always enjoyed listening to any iteration of Black Sabbath, especially with Ronnie or Ozzie singing lead vocals.
Dio’s Ironman was better than Ozzy’s. Maybe I’m biased because I benched 300 for the first time while listening to it.
I agree, even though Nuno was the best thing about Extreme, imo.
You would have benched 305 if you were listening to the Ozzy version.
Ha !!! That was in the Spring of 1982. I was 17. Don’t get me wrong. I love Ozzy’s music (except for the nonsensical and truly bizarre Mr. Tinkertrain). One of my favorite Black Sabbath albums to lift to, isn’t even Sabbath. It’s the Black Sabbath cover tribute, Nativity in Black. All time best BP 1 RM 365 with that one in 1996 at Bay State Gym, one of the most hardcore gyms that ever existed. They only played metal on their sound system.

Must have been one hell of gym. If I owned a gym it woul be like that too.
Really don’t know RJD Black Sabbath very well. But enjoyed the hell out of a documentary on the making of Paranoid on Amazon Prime last week.
It was ! No chrome or neon lights. Tons of rusty iron Olympic weights and dumbbells (none rubber coated), plate loaded Hammer Strength and some unique Nautilus pieces and even a Randy Coyle Swing Squat. Hot as hell in the summer. Freezing in the winter. It was on the first floor of an old industrial warehouse in a seedy area of Worcester. Water leaked from the ceiling, chipped paint, murals of Arnold on the wall and pics of local bodybuilders. The owners were great, but unexpectedly decided to close in the Fall of 2019, right before COVID. Sabbath, Metallica , Led Zeppelin, Pantera, andI IronMaiden blaring on the antiquated sound system. Best workouts there ever !
Will Check that out ! Thanks !
One of my lesser known favorites/go to’s.
Coolest bassline ever.
Yeah. It’s the 9-10 minute long songs or instrumentals from the middle of albums that really fill them out and make them cohesive.
I was only familiar with the few Sabbath songs they would play on the radio. Zappa turned me onto giving them a deeper listen.
Thats wild! Thanks! I learned something new today!
I’ll check that out completely later on.
The gym I’m at plays some bangers… seems most gyms are stuck on mumble rap or other trash
Or any Opeth song
Seems like you had a great time, sucks that it’s closed then.
Is that in the US then? I mean, with a name like Bay State Gym, I would assume so. But still, I couln’t help but picture a bunch of British Worcester guys with terrible teeth grinding reps to ‘‘Mouth for the War’’.
Knowaddamean?
Blackwater Park was an awesome album, then they morphed into something else.
Opeth can do no wrong
Yes, sir. Worcester, MA. Also known as “The Woo” and “Wormtown” . Second largest city (and biggest town) in New England. Home of some exceptional microbreweries if you like IPAs (the only real beer) and outstanding restaurants. Jay Cutler started out at Gold’s Gym Worcester in the early 90s and occasionally trained at Bay State Gym.
