Not a live action movie but BET just announced a Black Panther cartoon. Hopefully they use the last Marvel Knight series and not the Ultimates 2 as inspiration, I don’t understand why the writers felt the need to make him a mutant cat

I thought that was retarded too. Not only did they make his appearance weak as all hell, but he isn’t some transforming mutant to begin with.

I liked the last Marvel Knights series, it was so good I knew they would cancel it.

Michael Jai White should REALLY be picked for the part i mean this is straight up africa lol, and despite it beign a weak movie the film Undisputed II had some of the freshest fight scenes ive seen in a minute
Actually, I hear that he is going to be in the Spawn 2 movie that is in talks (he was in the original). I’m excited; the first one sucked, but this one is going to be a series reboot (like Batman Begins).
Not to hijack this thread, but I just read an interview where McFarlane said that no studio would pick it up so he’s gonna do it himself and that you’re never gonna see spawn, he’s just gonna be a beam of light…

Isn’t that the case eh? Marvel can basically kiss my ass, sometimes. then some times they come out with the punisher MAX series. But then again that might just be garth ennis shining through marvels lack of consistency.
I also agree that BP would really come out as a good political statement at this point in time. And that is the very reason why it likely won’t get done. so few people have the cajones to make any kind of statement that might piss off middle class america.

Ok, so It say’s he’s not seen in any direct light, but still… What the fuck is that? Why would you do that? I hope he’s bullshitting…
McFarlane: Right, I’d call this more of a suspense thriller. I’m going to use a big example which may seem sort of loopy, but to me it’s closer to “Jaws” in that - and this is one of the problems that some of the studios had - Spawn won’t talk. He’s just a being in this movie - which again, some people may find odd - but, you know, Jaws didn’t talk a hell of a lot in his movie either. But you knew that when he came out, something was going to happen. You know what I mean? You’ve made the presence known enough that nothing good was going to come of his presence being there.
So it’s sort of the same concept. I’m not going for Freddy Krueger horror and I’m not going for Spider-Man action superhero. I’m not even going for a guy who’s going to sit there and talk. You’re never actually ever going to see him in his cape or costume in any kind of direct light. It’s just going to be this thing that’s just going to come, and if it’s there then buddy, you’re going to have a bad day.
I wouldn’t be so quick to write it off unless he just has a huge problem putting his idea into film directly.
What he is describing is a “Hitchcock” approach, meaning you see less leaving more to the imagination…like that shower scene from Psycho that people still talk about even though you never saw that knife actually touch the woman’s skin.
I think that will be hard to do in a day and age where CGI effects pretty much rule what we expect in movies. I don’t know if Jaws (as classic as it is) would sell as well today simply because people have become so accustomed to watching half of the movie done up in special effects.
Let’s hope he doesn’t fuck it up. I’d rather have a film full of bad ass fights than a film where I don’t see any cool shit. That is unless its done very well. For some reason I don’t have that kind of faith in mcfarlane

I think people liked the fact that they could relate to Spawn on a personal level. That is why he had so much trouble selling this to studios. He is obviously avoiding anything close to a typical Superhero movie and approaching this like Spawn is a force of nature…like “Death” in those Final Destination movies.
The only movie I can think of “recently” that succeeded at this approach and really made you still react with any degree of fright is The Mothman Prophecies.
What about Mario VanPeebles? Is he too old now?

I understand exactly what he meant. I can’t understand why you would try and turn Spawn into a suspense thriller with a rarely seen main character. I definitley don’t want to sit through another of the first Spawn, but I think there are alot better ways he could take/make this.

I think it would. Fear of the unknown is a primal urge, and wouldn’t change according to popular taste. A recent example of leaving the evil unseen would be The Blair Witch Project. Crappy movie, but made a killing at the box office.
I think it would be more a kin to Signs which I personally thought it was a suspense filled movie because your mind created the fear.
I have followed spawn for a long time and I really don’t know how Mcfarlane is going to pull that off. Spawn works from the shadows but he has a forcefull presence, and his image is very sinister. I just can’t grasp how this will be done successfully.
Couldn’t possibly be worse than SM3 was.
OT, my first knee-jerk reaction was Ving Rhames or Michael Clarke Duncan, but they really need an actor capable of bringing out the lithe power of BP.
Snipes wouldn’t have been a bad choice, I think, but he’s going to be in the clink for the next few years, unfortunately.
Snipes originally wanted the part and was going to produce through his company amen ra i believe but just never got around to it or something

He saw how much money the original Blade made, adn said I’m going to do two more of these. I believe the original deal was he’d get Panther after Blade, seeing as how
most comic films before Blade where just really bad(Batman Forever anyone?) Marvel was reluctant to let one of their prime characters be put on film(also Marvel had shit luck with films previous to Blade, Capt America, Fantastic Four)

Ain’t that the truth. They didn’t even add the now-usual Marvel intro to the first Blade movie.

I don’t think there was one back then. I’m just happy the movie made $$$ it opend the door for X-Men, Spiderman, and Batman Begins. Also studios realized comic movies didn’t have to be kiddish and we got Sin City, Hellboy, 300, and soon Watchmen. I think all us geeks need to thank Snipes for a)putting up some of the money for Blade, b) breaking the barrier of comic films, and c) not dressing blade in that dumbass costume he had in the 70’s with the goggles and green pants(ugh fashion back then led much to be desired).
