Black Ex-Marine Shot in His Own Home

Rap culture is absolutely violent, derogatory, anti-social, pro-crime and especially pro-drug use as a rule with a handful of exceptions and arguing otherwise is simply intentionally contrarian.

I don’t argue that “Outlaw” Country was received similar to “Gangster” Rap…but look at that statement itself. It’s a comparison of segments of that music genre. So…so…so…did Outlaw country ever get used to stereotype the entire genre???

I hate to derail this thread from the topic…but I couldn’t pass up the faults in that argument.
Wait WTF is “Outlaw Country” was this about bestiality and incest?
Exactly. Most people don’t even know about it so how does it match up to viewing ALL OF HIP HOP as criminal and negative?

LOL

Loving the banter here. Apparently any discussion of these topics means you hate America also.
It is an excellent example in that like most don’t know outlaw country most won’t know a positive rapper.
QUE?!!

Will Smith is an UNKNOWN?

LOL fucking LO fuck L
You are showing you age. Lol. Will smith is an actor to the majority that know him.

We need more texans to get in on this discussion.

? There are TONS more. No one has heard of Outkast? if someone doesn’t know one it is because they don’t want to. NO OTHER REASON.

I wrote out the list in the last thread of artists including Kanye West who does not have much “negative criminal” activity going on in any song and is one of the top selling in history right now. Why are you playing games?

None of us will ever give an inch when trying to make our point. Lol

Agreed
BlakeAJackson wrote:

? Your point is invalid and nonsensical. There are many “positive rappers” who aren’t talking about criminal activity…and honestly, if you want your music that freaking clean, listen to GOSPEL and quit stereotyping an entire genre of music.

I agree with you 100%. But the ones that get the most play are negitive ones. it would be like finding that person that is like I hate country music except for outlaw country. If 90% is shit you don’t want to hear then you arn’t going to dig for the 10% that is decent.

Oh right, Will Smith is the shining poster boy of rap. You’re even missing the straws you’re trying to grasp.

No, your strawman is nonsensical. Are we really going to list mainstream rap artists in categories of violent criminal lyrics vs. not?

Exceptions will always exist but you are on the wrong side of the rule.

?

So I should base my opinion of all available music on what I hear on the radio?

Dude, many people don’t even listen to radio anymore. I know I don’t so using that as an excuse for ignorance of an entire genre of music no longer works.

The radio can fuck itself for all I care since most of my music is on mp3 that I downloaded myself after hearing clips of the music.

You don’t have to dig in the age of internet media…and internet merchants. You could take your 90/10 argument based on whats played the most…and apply it to ANY music genre.

wait…so Justin Beiber doesn’t represent ALL young white males???

Just to soothe your ego…I will bite.

What you call “contrarian” still negates the FACT(number of exceptions argued) that ALL rap MUSIC isn’t defined by what you listed. And if you want to stick by that, fine. BUT if you want to get technical…80-90% of all popular music can be defined by the same list of things. Arguing THAT would be contrarian my friend.

Your exclusive choices change absolutely nothing about a genre. The fact you feel the need to filter certainly holds an implication however. In fact, you would be guilty of “culturism”.

Listen Kanye is an amazingly tallented rapper. However he uses a ton of profanity, raps about sex, and being rich, and says the n word a ton. Sorry but this is going to turn off a group of people who hold certain values. I know that not all of his music is like that, I almost exclusively listen to rap these days. However I did just have a daughter and am questioning if I am going to be listening to it when she is in the car with me.

You have to think about the lyrics. Not sure I want a 3yr old picking up the n-word or any other profanities. Also, I respect Kanye because he uses that preconceived image to his advatage and mocks it. There is also an element that as a white listener I feel he is making music for black people. N-in Paris is an exam

Sure you find new artist but it actually does a great job of not exposing you to things you won’t like.

I don’t care who compares to what, in regards to rules and exceptions the rap genre is exceedingly negative. Only now the discussion is taking a semantic shift to “well some rap isn’t like that”.

Nice pretense though, very dis-associative.
