I don’t start to calm down on meet day until after I get my first squat in. I’m starting to think that I’m way too high strung for competing.

That’s perfectly normal, I’d say. Once that first squat is racked with white lights, it’s like a HUGE weight is lifted off of your shoulders and you actually concentrate again.

At least competing raw you won’t have to worry about the timing of getting your gear together, your straps up etc.[/quote]
This is what gets me. The gear and reliance on others to help time everything right.
I feel the same level of nerves and high expectations at every meet. My 7th is in two weeks. And I don’t calm down until my second squat is outta the way.
I doubt you’re too high strung to compete, BG. It’s that intensity and wiredness that drives you, I’m sure.

Before my first couple of squats I get so wound up I’m panting like a chihuahua on crack and my mouth is as dry as a desert.
I shake and sweat. Pit stains down to my waist. It’s been commented on before. Still looking for that perfect meet antiperspirant.
Great work in here. Good luck with your meet.
Oh hi guys!
You guys are right about dealing with gear. That adds a whole new set of concerns into the mix. I always seem to need to pee 800 times before the meet starts, which can get complicated if it happens once you get into your gear.
I get that weak, shaky, heart racing, “fight or flight” adrenaline rush sort of feeling the morning of the meet. Not really a feeling I particularly enjoy before I’m about to get under the bar and squat. I know this is normal, but its still not fun. Right now, I just need to get out of my own head.
bench (paused)
45x10x2
95x3
115x1
125x1
db curl 20x15x3
tri pushdown 25x25, 20x25
treadmill- 20 min
Those crunches I did yesterday were a mistake. Holy shit my hip flexors are angry. I hope they feel ok for Thursday.
I’ve been running through openers this week and I think my attempts are going to go something like this depending, of course, on how openers go the day of the meet.
squat: 225, 245, 265
bench: 125, 135, 145
dl: 225, 245, 265
Have you tried just not being nervous? Serious question dawg.
Does the meet allow wraps? I’m never sure what raw constitutes in any federation.
I have to pee a lot too. I’ve perfected keeping my suit legs seated and just peeling the ass down so I can go. However, I don’t think you could if you’re wearing briefs as well. This is why single ply rules. hahaha. We can pee more easily.

Unless of course you are single ply SPF, which allows single ply briefs and single ply suit
Matt- I don’t know about that one. Sounds too simple to work.
Federation for this meet does not allow knee wraps in the raw division but I’m wearing them anyway. I normally train in sleeves and don’t plan on competing in anything less than that.
It is my understanding that they don’t allow sleeves for raw so if I’m not going to be considered raw on paper because of what I put on my knees, I’m going to get the most out of what I do use. I may be stressed about the meet, but I still give zero fucks about what division knee wraps will put me in.

I dropped my meet entry form in the mail today which means there’s no going back now. I’ve also been thinking about the meet most of the day now and it seems that I got my mojo back.
Now I just need to figure out the rules about stupid things that really shouldn’t matter. Like whether or not the shirt that I squat and bench in has to have sleeves. I thought I saw somewhere that they do…
And in celebration of my returning mojo, I present to you my other favorite gym song (yes it is awful and totally predictable but I don’t care)
fuck ya at finding your mojo!

lol. I think Hatebreed is great gym music but we have some metal snobs in our midst and their oh so sensitive ears do not approve. We better watch what we say before they come out of hiding and tell us how awful and inferior we are ![]()

I’m still resisting the urge to go back and get the dress…
Worked up to my squat opener today and that was about it.
squat
55x10x2
105x5
145x3
185x1
205x1 (sleeves)
225x1 (wraps)
super set
kb swings- 20x10x2
kg twists- 12x10x2
My set up on 185 was horrible. Hips way behind me which made it feel much worse than it should have. 205 and 225 felt good.
I’ve been concerned about depth so I tried to focus on not cutting them high. Back spotter (who is a local multi-ply competitor) said they looked plenty deep. I got some crappy videos of them too but from the looks of it, they were good. I’ll probably have someone call my depth at the meet.
I didn’t do much for accessory work mainly because I have a giant swollen, blistered fire ant bite on my big toe and my shoes were rubbing so bad that I wanted to take them off. I did the accessory work in flip flops.
You found a job Stronghold is good for.

What? Flipping the mono? Hes pretty good at that, but I keep him around for other reasons.
No training yesterday or today. Considering a little cardio but I think I’m going to run errands before work instead. Errands will include picking out some awesomely bright nail polish for the meet. I’m thinking either blue or neon purple. I’m not much of a manicure girl because they never look good for more than a day or two but I’ve wanted to paint them lately and will use the meet as an excuse to do something other than “Lincoln Park After Dark”.
Totally looking forward to work tonight after dealing with some ghetto bitch that was pissed that I kept looking at her when she tried to shove clothes in her empty shopping bag yesterday. I just smiled and told her and her friend to have a great afternoon. Fucking cowardly cunt didn’t even have the balls to look me in the eye when she called me a bitch and waited until she was out the door to yell fuck you. Its too bad you can’t really steal a gym membership or a better weave. She needed those a lot more than any of the clothes we sell.
Oh. And some fucktard that doesn’t know how to drive parked next to me while I was at work too. How do I know this? Because there is a 10 inch line of paint scraped across my rear passenger side door that wasn’t there when I went to work. It doesn’t look like there are any real scratches and SH thinks we can just buff it out. The whole thing just really pisses me off though. Some piece of shit hit my car and now I have to foot the bill or deal with my insurance.
Stuff at work generally doesn’t bother me because its retail. They don’t pay me enough to care about half of the crap that goes on. But lately, my stress levels are way too high to be dealing with bullshit.
