Yesterday I read what STB wrote about zerchers off the floor. Instead of pulling and resting them on your knees, you go super wide and right down to the bar and pull it like that. It’s like an ultra deficit. I could only do 135 a couple times right off the floor. My favourites are heavy off pins though.
Those would be awful. I definitely don’t have the mobility to do them properly. And although I do squat really wide, I don’t pull sumo so I’m not sure that the risk (potentially destroying my already beat up hips) would be worth any additional reward I may get from doing them that way. Heavy off the pins would be my pick too.
Also, I looked through an old training log because I was curious about what I had done with the harness in the past. It looked like I maxed out at 205 for 3 or 5. I’m A LOT stronger than I was then but I still couldn’t imagine doing that the “normal” way. The actual ROM must have been much shorter then because the harness hit low near my hips not high on my abdomen the way it does when the bar is in my arms.
I decided I no longer want to be a Powerful Woman. I want to be a Badass Bitch. And badass bitches don’t train at Curves or hide out in the women’s only section.

You can run, but you can’t hide.

Dammit woman! First its the incessant weirdly complimentary PMs and now its flat out training log stalking. I thought posting those three creepy PMs you sent me would be enough to deter you. Maybe if I change my screen name? Miss Wolverine, perhaps? No one would ever expect that from a Buckeye…
Thanks for stopping by! How ya feelin? I’ve been creepin’ too and it sounds like the recovery is going well?
Re: zerchers off pins, the most I’ve done is 295 from mid thigh(ish). It wasn’t super comfortable but not earth shattering either. I’ve also got stick like arms so there isn’t a lot of padding. The trick is to drink first and it’s not too bad.
Re the log move: I moved mine to the seniors section over a year ago due to tiresome drama and crap. Not on my log but just in general. There seems to be a bit of an exodus.
This is from a discussion that originated in DixiesFinest’s training log. I thought I’d move my post over here because
Its giant and has nothing to do with Dixie or his training
It gives a little explanation of what I’m doing/have done so it seems like it would make sense to be in my log.

And maybe I’m a little late to the deload discussion party, but I’m in meet prep mode and I deload every fourth week. It tends to sync up so that the times that I’m starting to feel like my body is falling apart, I’m a workout or two away from the deload.
I hate deloading but I don’t think I would make it through this training without them. It wasn’t always this way for me though. When I did most of my training equipped I didn’t really feel the need to ever deload. I also didn’t need dedicate much time to stretching, foam rolling and warming up. Seems like most of the people saying they don’t deload unless they’re injured or just did a meet mainly compete equipped, no??
Do you really think you need to de-load one week out of every month? That’s a lot. Although I know that’s what 5/3/1 prescribes. I’m almost 46 and don’t de-load nearly that much. Actually, I think I’m more likely to need a break when I’m training heavily in gear than when I’m just raw. It’s so taxing on my CNS in the gear. I tend to train mostly raw and then throw the gear on 4-6 weeks out from a meet.
And DF. You were nowhere near getting teabagged. Get a female spotter next time. Then you won’t mind.

Not trying to hijack Dixies log here but to explain my deloads since I guess they’re kinda weird…
Specifically for my current 16 week program, a deload for me has not been an off week. Its a light week where I’m training my main lift at 70% for a couple sets of 5 and my volume for accessory work is cut in half.
I’ve been following a frequent deload schedule for the better part of this past year and its usually 3-4 weeks on, 1 off. With the “off week” involving something like 70%, lighter circuits, or a lighter “playtime” week.
(The off weeks also frequently sync up with the time of the month where I feel my worst. I usually feel weak, lethargic and have little endurance and I think having to take it easy that week keeps me from getting pissed about not being able to lift heavy during that time. So the set up is probably beneficial from both a physical and a psychological standpoint).
My training has been going really well over the past year. Despite only being in my mid-20s I have some chronic aches and pains that I have to deal with. Upon getting things under control, I haven’t had any major flare ups that have kept me from doing one lift or another, which has been a problem in the past.
I also feel like I’ve made good progress training this way. Last June/July, I failed to squat 200 in knee wraps, could barely press 110 on a good day, and wasn’t able deadlift consistently. I’m currently hoping for a 255+ squat at my meet at the end of July, can press 125 for a few paused reps, and 230 was flying off of the floor on my last heavy DL day.
My point is that this set up is working very well for me and there are alternatives to the common “only deload when youre hurt/doing a meet”.
badass is cool. Deloads are tricky. I wasn’t deloading for the last little bit and my squats and deads were going great while my bench was worse than stalled… I’m planning on following the deload more in weeks to come to see if that is the culprit.

295?! I don’t think I’d have any hope of moving that on zerchers. Maybe with a harness, if ROM was kept short, and I did them belted…
About the move: there seems to be an epidemic of sandy vaginitis around there lately. I don’t remember it being that dramatic. There are a number of women over there whom I enjoy following and I definitely read more than I comment.
As for the others, a lot of the time I can’t relate to their training or goals at all and I’m not a fan of the “rainbows and sunshine, everyone gets a trophy for trying, I’m going to tell everyone they’re doing great just because they’re female and have enough courage to go into the big scary manly man land of free weights” attitude that has become so prevalent. When I compliment others, I mean it, and I think it’s kind of redundant to have 8 different posters say “congrats on the PR” or whatever and try to avoid that. I think there’s a fine line between being encouraging and blowing smoke up someones ass and I try to avoid the latter. If that makes me a bitch that ruffles feathers over there, so be it.

Deloads ARE tricky. I think its one of those things that you kind of have to experiment with to figure out what works for you. I know I currently like my approach and I’m pretty sure Detazathoth (who I don’t think posts much anymore) follows a similar one, at least before a meet. Stronghold’s programs are much less rigid and he tends to just kind of take it easy when he feels like it. And, of course, there are a lot of people on here that seem to prefer the “I’ll deload when I’m dead” approach. To each their own. Good luck figuring out what works!
Wow. That was quite the slam on the women on the PW site. Unfortunate, really, since it seems like you and your boyfriend were the ones who stirred up much of the drama.
Good luck to you over here. And I mean that sincerely.

I don’t think you properly understood what she was saying. Drama in one thread isn’t why she left. Not even close.

Stronghold is right. My decision to leave was not the result of one thread in particular. I’m not a fan of the overall climate over there. This “you’re an outsider and need to respect us because this is out forum” attitude is way too over the top for me. It was actually all the whining in the “hot girl lifting” thread that sealed the deal fo me. Not what went down in nikki’s log as you alluded to. The only thing I learned from that is that the reason why there is so much ass kissing is because half of the posters on this site wouldn’t know proper form if it bit them on the ass.
At this point I really don’t care if what I say over here offends. I’m trying to be a better lifter. I don’t pussyfoot around in the gym and I’m not going to on here either. If anyone has a problem with my attitude, there’s a nifty little ignore feature.
I actually think it is too bad that you and Nikki both pulled your logs from PW.
While you and I may have different styles of communicating (and no doubt other differences as well), I found some inspiration from your log. Watching you squat gave me a kick in the pants and really encouraged me to get more aggressive with that lift. I’m grateful for that.
DoveofWar- Greetings! Thanks for the welcome and for following along.
Nadia- I’m glad you’ve gotten something out of my posts other than that I’m a big old meanie. Its important to do the things that we don’t like or aren’t good at in training (if only I could follow my own advice here). Don’t be afraid to push the squats. They’ll make you strong. And thanks.
Mini band set up went like this: step left foot on mini, cross mini over middle of bar, step right foot on mini. I don’t like this set up and chains would have been preferred, but the commercial gym doesn’t have a deadlift platform with band pegs or any chains and I don’t really want to drive 45+ min to the PL gym just for that.
I had a miss on the band pulls between the first and the second. Having the bands wrapped around the bar directly in front of me was messing with me and resulted in me trying to pull at the wrong time and with my hips sky high. None of my pulls had the speed they did the other week. It was a little frustrating.
Bands added at least 25lbs to the top. I looped that much thru the doubled mini and the band didn’t quite reach the floor when I held it at my sides.
