I have a question about birth control pills. Does anyone know why they can cause a decrease in libido? Does anyone know how to counteract this. My wife told me last night that she is frustrated with the pill because of this effect. Any suggestions?
I have not studied the matter myself, but my colleague Dr Karlis Ullis has written that the reason is reduction of testosterone levels in women by the Pill.
My wife asked me if using Tribex would help her. I told her that she shouldn’t take it, but after your comments, would a small amount help? I don’t want to put her on anything that would create bigger problems. Would she notice a difference in libido on one Tribex capsule a day? Would there be negative side effects? Thank you for posting an earlier reply.
Methoxy-7 seems to have a libido boosting effect on my wife. She says it makes her a little bitchy, but I ain’t complaining!
This is not highly scientific, since I don’t remember the article that well. It’s from the old MM2K, an article with v. conte? maybe… Anyway, if your wife is experiencing any other side effects, lethargic, etc. it could be that the pill, due to its effect on some vitamin (I think) is hindering her body’s uptake/detention of iron, thus making her slightly anemic.
The bottom line is that if there are other side effects, besides loss of sex drive, have her take an iron supp.
That’s supposed to be retention, not detention.
Thanks T. She is anemic and has started taking iron supplements. She is extrememly lathargic at times. Thank you for your thoughts.
Birth control pills have been known to deplete B vitamins, so she might want to take a B-complex if energy levels are a problem.
She needs to tell her GYN about this effect and possibly have her hormone levels checked including thyroid, and have the dose adjusted.I know they have had a bad rap but before my husband had a vasectomy,I used an IUD.It was called the “T” progestTsert I think. the only problem was heavier-but shorter periods. The hormone dose was very small but the it was 99% preventive and that is always the best way to go (high preventive low hormonal).By the way, the pill tured me into a raging bitch with a sex drive who was too pissed off half the time to do anything about it.I am much more fun now.
Thank you Virago. My wife is an LPN and she works at a Nurse Practioners office. Is there anything she can have tested at work that could help solve the problem? Or should she go to her GYN? Thank you so much for your replies.
