So I finally have gotten talked into Crossfit. I am on my 2nd week and am doing it 3 days a week while doing strength stuff on the 3 off days (5x5 cleans, presses, squats, etc). So far I’m loving the crossfit part but want to start taking some supps to improve my performance.
I haven’t taken a lot of the new stuff so I was looking for some guidance from those on crossfit. Besides the obvious ones like protein, creatine, Surge recovery I was looking at beta-7, Receptormax, and Surge workout fuel. Anyone have good/bad/neutral exeriences with these and this style of training?

If you want some, “guidance from those on crossfit” you should probably post on a website where there are people that actually use crossfit.
Alright, replace Crossfit in his post with “complexes” or HIIT work.
Similar concept.
Anyways, all of those supplements are good - some, obviously, have more benefit than others. Have you looked into the new workout nutrition protocols being proposed lately?

Surge Workout Fuel
Finibar
This is what I used when putting together my Crossfit article:
Surge Workout Fuel, BETA-7, Alpha-GPC, and Surge Recovery, would all be ideal. If you’re busting ass whether doing crossfit or whateva the hell else these will help get you through it.
CT’s para-workout protocol could be used on these days. I train with complexes and other metabolic training between strength sessions and I use the protocol principle, minus about 50% of the carb content, on these days. Ok it won’t be as intense as crossfit, I assume, but I’ve never had issues recovering from these HIIT sessions using the protocol principle.
Thanks for all of the serious responses. A big f-you to everyone who instead of giving a constructive answer felt the need to criticize crossfit. I hate to break it to you but people on here do use crossfit.
There have been 2 articles on the subject recently and I’ve found a few threads on the type of workout I am doing which is known as the Max Effort Black Box. If you look below my avatar you will find that I have been on this site since 2002 and am a level 4 purchaser.
Some of you guys who were the most vocal about crossfit have been on here less than a year. I know it might seem popular or easy to go along with the vocal majority on here but I will tell you that many different styles of training are discussed and advocated on T-Nation. This would be a very boring site if only bodybuilding, powerlifting, and getting huge were discussed.
Not that I need to explain myself but 3 days a week I do crossfit and the other 3 days I do 5x5 training. For my goals of losing fat while maintaining muscle and bettering my endurance crossfit has been great.
I may not get huge on it but I also don’t feel great about myself when I can only run 1.5 miles and get out of breath walking up stairs. My gym doesn’t even follow the WOD’s but instead designs workouts to focus more on strength and form.
Hopefully this won’t get lost in my rant, but can I take the Surge Workout Fuel with Beta-7? It looks like the Surge Workout Fuel already contains Beta-Alanine so just wondering if that would be overkill.

It’s fine to use Beta-7 in conjunction with Surge Workout Fuel.
I recommend at least 2 Beta-7 capsules 10 minutes prior training, and then 1 to 2 more PWO.
My point was that you have been registered on here for 3 months and spout off that no one on T-Nation uses crossfit or subscribes to that workout style. That is simply not true. If you would even just search for the term gym jones on here you would find that many people are into the crossfit style of training. Hell Dan John trained in crossfit and as you can see above, Chris Shugart wrote an article on it.
I was not bragging about the money or time I’ve spent here or trying to say I’m better than anyone else. The bottom line is that the longer you hang around the more you will realize this place is full of non-traditional workout styles. It is also full of people like you who criticize workouts, nutritional plans, or anything that you see out of the ordinary.
The reason I posted my join date is to illustrate that I don’t need you to tell me that I shouldn’t be posting on here about crossfit. I posted this in the supplement section and not the bodybuilding one for a reason.
Last but not least, I never said you couldn’t be huge and run a long distance. I simply was stating that I was out of shape and wanted to increase my endurance. There are plenty of ways to accomplish this goal and I’ve found that crossfit is a great way to get into a good general shape and lose a lot of fat initially.
Thanks Chris, Brian, and everyone else for their suggestions. I think I have a good idea as to what I’m going to order!
At best it’s general conditioning. Get vitamins, eat right. Your body composition goals should determine your food and supplements… not whose brand of Kool-Aid you’re drinking.
Yeah I think I’m with Spartiates on this one, why do you need more supplements for crossfit when it seems like this is more of a conditioning workout then anything. If you’re doing this to lose fat and get better conditioned I wouldn’t buy anything specifically for it.
If you get completely serious about it and want to incorporate this into your training then get back to the supplements, but I think you might be disappointed with your results if you hit it hard with the supplements from the start.
If you really feel like you need a boost though for energy, motivation, and focus then I would go with Surge Workout Fuel. The recent drop in prices pulled me in and I have to say I’m not disappointed in the least.

X3
Don’t know why my post got deleted, wasn’t inappropriate or out of line, simply trying to highlight some simple points and stress the importance of dedication and consistency rather than obsession with minute details and quick fixes. If it gets you in the gym, do it.

I never said it required special supplements. Crossfit training is completely different than any form of training that I’ve done in the past 10 years. Its not like I have just discovered working out and am looking into supplements without concentrating on the basics first. I have gone from heavy strength workouts which give me anywhere from 45 seconds - 2 minutes rest between sets to non-stop workouts consisting of 45 minutes without rest.
Biotest obviously makes supplements geared towards different workout types and goals. I was simply wondering what combinations worked best for people doing this type of training.
As HK24719 stated, this was never about crossfit or what people thought about it. I am sorry the discussion has turned into this. Next time I will just say I’m training at Gym Jones for a month or that I’m about to go into BUD/S and I’m sure I will get nothing but positive posts with great ideas.
I am following a similar approach, 3 days strength training and 3 days metabolic resistance training. I recently purchased Surge Workout Fuel, Surge Recovery and hydrolyzed whey protein.
Here is what I do, 30 minutes prior I take 1.5 scoops of Surge Workout Fuel. I then mix 1/2 scoop of Surge Workout Fuel with 2 scoops of hydro whey, when I get to the gym I drink half and then I drink the other half about 30 minutes in. Immediately after the workout ends I use 1 scoop of Surge Recovery. I found this to work pretty well.
I find that Surge Workout Fuel really helps, it gives you sustained energy, and makes your recovery between circuits, sets etc better. These types of workouts are really taxing and taking some extra supplements will help.
Thanks bradmacmillan, do you find that the Surge Workout Fuel works better for your metabolic resistance training than with the strength training? Or are the effects about the same?
I find they are about the same. I think that you will like the swf, you don’t get an immediate rush, like with stimulants(HOT-ROX, stuff like that) but you will notice its positive effects. You really feel like you can just keep working out, more sustained energy. I have taken lots of supplements over the years, and I really think that swf is worth the money, not many supplements are.
