Wow. At least she doesn’t “blame anybody for thanking the Lord.”
What a magnanimous atheist![/quote]
We can blame Bush for that.

Ha! That’s mighty white of her…
Thank you god for giving me free will so that when you wreck my home with a hurricane I can make my own decision thus saving mine and my chillds life?

See that’s the atheist’s misconception right there. That God is supposed to make everything peachy and wonderful and if you believe in God your life should be peachy and wonderful. That’s not the way it works. Never has been the way it works. It’s a misconception of the highest order.

Then why believe in god? What is the deity’s purpose?

What do you think God’s purpose is?
Let me give you a hint. The Creator does not serve the created.

This makes no sense. Why would an atheist think a god they don’t believe in is supposed to do anything? I see what you are saying in regard to espenl’s post but if someone was truly an atheist it would be a nonsensical statement.
BTW I am not an atheist or a God hater, I just have not heard a particularly convincing argument to the contrary.

Meh, i don’t have much opinion on the matter other than recollections that my mom once served me soup. I was just curious. He said that a particular scenario wasn’t the way it works and I was curious as to how he thinks the whole god thing works.

You apparently think God’s purpose is to be your slave or you have no use for Him. Suit yourself. What’s the diety’s purpose? What an ignorant statement. You certainly have no business criticizing or commenting on religion since you clearly know nothing about it.

The arguments are out there. Some are more compelling than others for sure, but there are some very strong arguments for the existence of God. I haven’t heard very good counter arguments and I have looked at most of them and haven’t found any that refute the arguments for God’s existence, nor make a compelling argument for atheism. Atheism sounds, from the outside to be a angry, depressing prospect.

Hahah I think we may have got off on the wrong foot or maybe I misrepresented myself. No harm. I meant it more along the lines of “what does God mean to YOU” or “Why do you worship?”.

Also, I am genuinely curious as to why you believe that my asking why something exists is arrogant.
Maybe, but truth is not supposed to make everything peachy and wonderful.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Fair enough. I am defensive about my position.
My relationship with the Almighty is based on love. It’s a reciprocal relationship, it’s give and take on both sides. I do love the Lord. This is a concept that will sound strange to the Atheist because they sense nothing with regards to the metaphysical presence. You do have to be ‘trained’ some what to know it. To know the difference between a presence of God and illusion or that of coincidence. But when you know it, it’s unmistakable. The problem with expressing that is it’s personal experience. It’s something that’s difficult to relate to others in word. I have described that relating that knowledge or sense or understanding of God is about like trying to explain an acid trip to somebody who has never tried it. I can tell you things about the experiences, I can relate to you events or things relating to God in a true sense, but you will have no way of really ‘knowing’ unless you’ve been there. It’s the only way to really know.
I can use philosophical arguments to prove the existence of God, I can show you evidences of ‘God experiences’ or religious type stuff, but I cannot make you get it. I have no power to make you understand in anyway. At best I can provide you doubts about your own beliefs.

Thanks for sharing. No need for philosophical arguments considering I have my own beliefs and you have yours. So long as we don’t kill eachother over it I think we’ll do just fine!

Hence why I am a theist. ![]()
Generally speaking, when talking about ‘atheists’ in general I don’t mean you. You are the exception to the rule, so to speak. You have thought about it. You have put in work. You are not preachy or militant about your atheism and in many respects you understand the positions of theists. You’re not the dumbed down, cheerleader type atheist.

I wish I could be properly offended, but the ones you speak of probably piss me off more than you.
For other reasons though.
