You need some serious diet work. You dont have any food until 6:00pm?? And you can’t figure out why your starving at night? I love protein powders/MRP’s, but you have to eat some actual food as well.
Hey, there, depsyphor. I see a lot of good things with your diet. 7 meals (I call 'em all meals), nicely spaced. A lot of good choices. You even have some halfway decent PWO nutrition. The reason you’re breaking down at night in the self control department is because you haven’t taken in enough calories to satisfy your body. I’ll make a few suggestions in that regard.

It’s going to be a bit of a hassle, but I’d like to see you chewing your protein instead of drinking your protein. I get hungry much quicker when I drink a protein shake versus chwing some jarky, steak, lamb, tuna, etc. I know shakes are convenient, but what you’re doing currently isn’t working. The added benefit is that the body “spends” about 30% of the protein you take in processing it and assimilating it. Just try it out for a week and see if it makes a difference as far as managing your hunger.

Can you get your mom to make you some fresh broccoli, spinach, green beans or any of the other green veggies for dinner? They’re high in fiber and will leave you feeling full. I’d recommend that you eat the biggest darn plate of broccoli (or anything of like kind) for dinner that you can stuff down your face. No sauces, though. Eat it clean with salt for flavor. Have a little extra made for when you would typically break down later in the evening and eat some more green veggies (along with your scheduled protein). This is a case where more is actually better. I’d like to see you stuffing some serious green veggies down your gullet.

Try changing out the cottage cheese for another protein source for one week, and see if it makes a difference. You’re running a little low on good fat, so take in another tablespoon of flaxseed oil.

The alternative to cutting calories is to increase activity. Try doing some morning HIIT. As a minimum, do some HIIT on every day you’re not doing wrestling practice.
For HIIT, I’d recommend that you warm up for 6 minutes at a moderate level of intensity. Get the heart pumping and blood going to the muscles. Go all out for 30 seconds at Minutes 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. After the 30 seconds, drop to a low level of intensity for 90 seconds to recover. Each sprint is 2 minutes; 30 seconds high, 90 seconds low. After you finish your sprint at Minute 18, cool down for 7 minutes at a lower intensity level. Total HIIT session time is 25 minutes.
How are your energy levels currently?
depsyphor I would NEVER back down from Tiger or MJ or ANYBODY. I feel deep down inside I can beat anyone at anything. You NEVER know what can happen. It happens during a pick up game where the other team is much better and supposed to win but they get blasted and sit the next game. Tiger has bad days, MJ had bad days, sure they are most likely gonna beat me, 99.9% positive, but that sure as hell WON’T stop me from trying.
You’re saying “Hey I can’t win so why try” thats sad and thats why so many people NEVER realize their dream. Like I said before you lost before you even came close to trying. Thats sad man have some confidence THAT will pay off in the long run, WAY THE FUCK MORE than droping 20lbs to compete in a weight class you think you can contend in.
Confidence NOT cockiness is what’s powerful. From sports to business to women, CONFIDENCE is fucking HUGE. Walking into a meet like you are ready and 100% confident in yourself people will notice that and you WILL HAVE THE EDGE YOU’RE LOOKING FOR. I’m telling you, confidence will help you more than droping 20lbs.
“Confidence, It’s just confidence.”
Tampa, awesome response.
I do eat a ton of broccoli, celery, green salads (with some baby carrots/tomatos thrown in, but mostly lettuce) with dinner, and afterwards. I try to stuff myself on anything super-low-calorie my mom makes, and she makes this type of thing 2-3x per week. When she doesn’t, I tough it up and am hungrier.
I hit 148.5lbs tonight after running in sweats. I’m weighing in at 152 tomorrow, but I’m that much closer to my goal of 145!
Agree with TT…ditch the protein powder…you’re not trying to bulk or gain lean mass…you should’ve done that in the off season…all you should be try’n to do now is maintain current strength while dropping 10 lbs…eat real food…no junk. And as somebody else suggested…you need to eat for a 145 lber…not a 152er…change the way you eat your calories…eat most of your calories earlier in the day…and at lunch to fuel your workouts…cut out the big nitely dinner…just eat lightly at nite…some broccoli and a couple hard boiled eggs…you need to eat very lightly at nite so that your body will burn fat during sleep…at which time you won’t notice lack of energy…get most if not all calories before you workout…and to the weight class bashers…why do the body builders cut to 5%BF (and we’re not even talking 5% for deppy)…why so many diet articles on this site…maybe we should all strive to be 10 or 12%…he cann’t even see his abs…how about a little guts and determination…I’ve been there…if he wants to wrestle varsity bad enough and have a shot at state (which he won’t have if not making varsity)…then he needs to dig down and have more discipline…an iron will…hmmm…I almost feel like I’ve had this pep talk before…
You have to cut the kid a little slack. If he’s a senior, he only has this year to wrestle. It might be impossible to get to the level to beat a state champ in a few weeks. some people are better than others, no matter how hard you try.
I cut weight for meets because I felt there was more for me to accomplish at my early lifting classes at the time. It worked; I won the teenage states. You can’t really compare the competitive field of possibly a few thousand high school wrestlers in a state, and a handful of strongman competitors. I’m not sure how many people wrestle in pa at each weight class, but it would have to be a few hundred each. If his buddy is a state champ, it would be hard to unseat him.
My local school was the wrestling mecca in Pa., years ago. Coach Joe Cesari lead the team to multiple state titles and produced numerous state individual champs. His three sons won state titles and all went to D1 schools. I'd be willing to bet if these guys all devoted their lives to lifting, there would be a much more competive strongman and powerlifting field out there.
PGA200X, keep that WWE shit to yourself. That ain’t wrestling. How old are ya? 12? You still believe in Santa Claus too?
MR, LMAO just because they are in the WWE you think they never accomplished anything or were special athletes at some point??? Uhhhh Kurt Angle was an olympic gold medalist in wrestling and Brock Lesner won the NCAA championships in his weight class a few years back. They got into a legit fight and Lesner had his ass handed to him with Angle being older and smaller than Lesner.
irondoc what do you think is best, being underweight and weak from basically shutting your body down just to make weight or giving it a shot at his “correct” weight and seeing what happens?
He’s already said that he can’t beat the 152 lber (apparently his “correct weight”)…gets his ass handed to him…that is why weight class athletes drop a weight class…to compete with those of equal ability…to get an edge…and if he can’t drop 10 lbs and compete…than he is in the wrong sport…pussies…
PGA, although I respect your opinion, I cannot beat my state champ teammate. It’s not an option. If you have ever wrestled before, you would have an idea what it is like to be completely outmatched. Even if the kid is having an ‘off day’… I’m sorry, but “sucking it up and beating him” just like Kurt Angle did in a scripted fight in WWE is not quite logical.
Thanks guys. I weighed in at 150 today and wrestled 152, and won. Woopdeedoo.
If you keep focused and disciplined…you should make 147 for the end of the season…and ultimately that is what it is all about anyway…but you need to keep chipping away in order to reach 147 in 2 weeks…let us know how you do at state…
depsyphor do what you must then.
BTW The “fight” wasn’t scripted. Lesner was talking shit to Angle, on a plane BTW, on how he could take him down. Kurt accepted the challenge and dusted him pretty easily from what I heard.
