Athlete’s foot starts with bacteria, obviously. Most of it comes from dirty shoes, which are dirty because of bacteria that are in your socks, even after washing them. That is because your water heater is set too low. It is likely set to 118, turn it up to 130 and throw out your shoes or wash them in the hot water.

If you are washing anything in 118 degree water, or a few degrees lower, you’ll know from science class that 115-118 degree water is where bacteria actually thrives the best.
Alternative to washing things in hot water(uses less energy too), put any clothes with a tendency to “hold the funk” (socks, t’s, workout clothes) in the microwave for a 2-3 minutes. Just make sure they are wet first.
What happens if they’re not? Do they spontaneously combust or something?
They can burn. Singed a towel doing that because I forgot to wet it down.

Where are you guys finding under armor boxers? I hate paying retail for anything and Amazon is slacking on options.

For realz?
Yes.
That’s interesting because my lab incubator is typically set at 37C (98.6F).

I agree that making sure your water is a suitable temperature won’t hurt (and if we are talking white socks why not use bleach if you’re particularly worried?), but if it remains an issue one should ensure that their socks are completely dry before storing and that they rotate shoes more often (or are treated with an anti-fungal spray if they don’t have spares after being allowed to fully dry).

The key word is ‘dry’, because athlete’s foot is typically a fungi and fungi like moisture. If you are one of the people who seem to get it all the time, even something as little as fully drying between your toes before putting socks on in the morning may help. Changing your socks from cotton to something that removes moisture better might prove useful, as would simply changing pairs more often if the former isn’t a realistic option.

I’m assuming people who get if often have already made an effort by not leaving their stinky ass socks on after coming home from the gym and regularly shower soon after that (and at the very least wear some sort of protective footwear if they decide to use the gym facilities to clean up).
Well the thing is the shoes, that collect from the socks. I figured bleach was more for getting out stains more than killing stuff. But I do not have any white socks, I just wash all my stuff in hot water.

I also have a custom shower head that pours down more than the measly 1.7 gallons and is set at 3 gallons a minute, and I have 3 shower heads. 9 gallons a minute. That is partially the reason why ya’ll are funky is because your shower heads are basically misting you.

When it comes to cleaning things, I personally am not worried about a few dollars on the electricity bill to keep my water temp at 130, because I can’t microwave my self, my dishes, and anything else I need to clean.

It’s just a suggestion dude…one that works pretty well. If you need 130 degree water to keep your balls from smelling, perhaps you could try new soap.

I only read through the first few pages but in terms of hygiene/good appearance I suggest a body groomer. Sorry, but bushy body hair looks terrible. Trim that stuff down or shave it off completely.

Isn’t Kerly your body groomer?

Body groomer recommendations anyone?

The back scrubber i use. It can stretch from finger to finger in a full wing span and cleans like a charm. Personally i like it better than a brush, more pliable and a lot easier to get my entire back.

Im not sure anybody mentioned this or not but for the love of God,powdered your balls or rub baby oil on em. Especially if you live in a particularity humid area. I had caught a case of jock itch recently and its not fun. Im trying to get rid of some of the scarring.

Hygiene is definitely important. What I recommend:

EVERY DAY: Shower, cleanse your face, brush your teeth (morning and night), floss (I use a Waterpik because it makes the process take only a few seconds and can also help in removing tonsil stones every few months when you get them) use deodorant, and if you feel the need, use some kind of lip balm with SPF and a moisturizer with SPF.

As a bodywash and shampoo, I use Jack Black All-Over body wash. It has wheat protein to moisturize and strengthen hair, and pantheol to moisturize your skin. If you’d rather use separate products, I sometimes use Billy Jealousy Fuzzy Logic for my hair, and Ocean Front for my body.

Fuzzy Logic has DHT blockers which supposedly help to keep you from balding, but I mainly use it because it smells like heaven. For your lips, use Jack Black Intense Therapy Balm Original with SPF 25, and to moisturize without getting acne, use Anthony Logistics for Men Oil-Free Moisturizer with SPF 15. Oh, and to cleanse your face, use Clinique for Men Liquid Face Wash Regular Strength. It’s mild, so it shouldn’t irritate your skin. Links:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P122812&categoryId=RPYMAL&shouldPaginate=

EVERY WEEK: Trim and file your nails, deal with pubic hair, exfoliate and use a good mask to really clean out your pores afterwards. Buy a good buzzer, and trim pubes down. Then, I use Billy Jealousy Hydroplane, the best shaving product I’ve ever used for avoiding ingrown hairs.

I then put an astringent on the area with salicylic acid to help free the hairs that may have been missed. Haven’t gotten a single ingrown since I started using both of those products. For an exfoliant, use Anthony Logistics for Men Facial Scrub, and for a mask, use Anthony Logistics for Men Clay. Links:

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P9032&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=4374

EVERY OTHER WEEK: Deal with body hair (I trim with a buzzer because I find it looks best that way and most girls seem to agree, although I only trim my lower back and chest and leave leg hair and arm hair, of course), get a haircut (Especially if you have very straight hair like I do, because straight hair starts to look unruly fairly quickly.

If you can afford it, go every week), change your bedsheets (It’ll seriously help to eliminate bacne) and deal with unruly eyebrows (Seriously, if you take good care of yourself, you won’t skip this step and nice-looking eyebrows really accent your facial features) by getting them PLUCKED, not waxed or threaded. This helps to give them a far more natural look which is more manly. Unless, of course, you want to look like Sylvester Stallone in Rocky VI or Vinnie from Jersey Shore.

EVERY 3-4 WEEKS: Deal with your toenails. Nothing more gross to a girl than nasty toes. You don’t really need to deal with these more often than this, as toenails grow 4X more slowly than hand nails.

ONCE A MONTH: Get a tan, especially if you live in the city and don’t get exposed to the sun much. It contains vitamin D which helps to prevent skin cancer, but be aware that if you go too often, you’ll get skin cancer. A balance needs to be struck. Also, get a facial to really clean out your skin.

I recently started keeping a log so that I don’t keep my â??freshnessâ?? up to chance, just like I log all of my workouts and diet. It makes things easier to remember as well.

Last bit of info, but if you want great underwear that really wick away moisture and dry quickly, buy these: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Patagonia-Active-Boxer-Brief-Mens/PAT0494M.html
They dry extremely quickly, and while they’re expensive, you could literally buy only a few pairs and you’ll be fine. Read the reviews. People who travel wear them for days at a time without them starting to smell. Not that I recommend you do that, haha.

LOOK GOOD, FEEL GOOD.

Oh, and yes, use baby powder daily for your ass and genitals. It’ll keep them fresh. If you think you’ll be getting lucky that day, use Kama Sutra Honey Dust instead of baby powder, because it’s edible. Girls will love you for it. =)

I was looking into that myself and saw this one recommended in a few places: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-BG2020-Bodygroom-Shaver/dp/B000EG8HLE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=beauty&qid=1280446599&sr=8-1

I would actually recommend something with a more visible blade, like this:

I have that set, and it’s served me well for 3 years. It comes with multiple-length attachments for each trimmer. The price is actually cheap. Neither are really good for your genitals, though. You’ll get some nicks. For the area above your dick, they’re great, though.

Alright I got questions and need answers! lol

 1. I do use a body groomer, but I notice I get ingrown hair on my thighs which cause redness/pimple like dots and it’s kinda annoying. I will actually get it even if I don’t groom my thighs…mmm

Can I go with FlameofOrisis recommendations for my thighs with the “I use Billy Jealousy Hydroplane, the best shaving product I’ve ever used for avoiding ingrown hairs.”

Or is that mostly for the face.

So that’s for my thighs.

When I shave my face I get some irritation/pimples on my neck. The bought neutrogena face scrub exfoiliant, razor defense shave gel, post shave lotion razor defense…I think it helped a bit.

But the biggest thing that helped I really think is…shave my face after a warm/hot shower. Open’s up the pores and well it’s actually a lot easier to shave I have thick strong facial hair and it grows very fast. And using cold water afterwards to close the pores.

As well…if I shave my face…if I shave 2 days after where the hair is growing but not a full beard yet…I will get tons of irritation…but if I shave on the 5th day where I have a beard I will get little irritation. Some guys think it’s awesome to have facial hair…but I had a damn moustache in gr.8, by the time I was 16 I was already growing a beard. It’s not that cool lol

Okay more questions for you guys:

 1. I’ve really never heard of powdering your balls? Why do you have to do this again? Is it to stop irritation or something?..I’m just asking cause I never have problems down there, or nothing a shower couldn’t help.

 2. Okay you know those Axe “detailers” or loofah - if you shower with those every day won’t IT get dirty after a few weeks of showering with it? Again I’ve never used one of those things so that’s why I’m asking. What happened to just using soap and hands? lol I’ve always felt very fresh and clean after just using soap and hands, scrubbing the soap on my body. If I’m really dirty that day from work (which is often) then I will soap up, wash down, and soap up one more time.

 3. Soap vs. Bodywash - I used Dove’s Soap for Men and it leaves my skin fresh, not dry, not oily or anything. I’ve never tried a bodywash but can someone tell me some benefits of it compared to a soap like Dove?

I honestly can’t answer for your thighs, because it might just be some sort of irritation and not actually ingrown hairs. If you’re not shaving, they’re definitely not ingrown hairs, though. Try rubbing some baby powder on your thighs every day. Before I started cutting, my thighs would rub together and I would even get a pretty bad rash sometimes.

I wouldn’t shave that area if you’re only trimming it now, as that might make the problem worse. The Hydroplane can be used for any area you shave. It has micro-beads in it which is why you can get such a close shave. For your facial-hair issue, I would definitely give it a try. It costs $20, but even if you shave every day, I don’t see why it wouldn’t last you over a month, at least.

Try using the new Fusion Proglide blades, too, if you’re using the regular Fusion blades, as they’re much smoother on the skin. Go with the grain first, and then against the grain while pulling your skin in the opposite direction, and if the problem persists, start using an after-shave with salicylic acid in it to free the hairs.

And yes, definitely do this after you shower. I don’t think it has to do with pores opening up, but rather with the hairs becoming much softer for the shave.

Yah, the Norelco pro has a trimmer on the bottom and one of those razor’s with the screen on the top, it’s pretty sexy.
