Big Nog - Time to Talk Retirement?

Obviously I think so, or I wouldn’t start the thread.

There was a time when his opening flurry would have been enough. He struck hard and fast, but his speed and explosiveness seems to have fallen off. He had Werdum back on his heels several times, but wasn’t able to capitalize like he used to.

I think Big Nog may have a few fights left in him, he wasn’t dominated or anything (that armbar showed pretty impressive agility on Werdum’s part) but he doesn’t seem his old self and I don’t think he’s got what it takes to climb to a title anymore. If it were me, I’d seriously consider looking at my exit strategy. There’s good money to be made in coaching and comentary, but only if there’s enough of your grape left to put together sentences.

Agree.

Especially with coaching and both Big and Diet Nog.

Their students/black belts, Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida, show excellent MMA ground work. I am a Big Nog fan and don’t want to see him get hurt for good. His striking isn’t as crisp as it used to be, his head movement and footwork is even worse than it was before, and he cannot scramble like he used to.

There are a lot of guys he can still beat, but he is a long shot against Cain, Ubereem, Mir(hurts me to admit it), Cormier, etc.

Regards,

Robert A

I like Big nog. I think he’s got at least one more fight in him. Then, yeah, it’ ll be time to hang them up, old buddy.

I really wanted him to win, taking advantage of Werdum’s shitty conditioning. I guess Big Nog has no chance against his outstanding jiu jitsu.

Ah, dang it. Nothing last forever.

I think Mir is in the same boat as Big Nog. His last few fights have been less than stellar.
