Well looks like stucco season is starting in a couple weeks. We are going to be stinking busy so training will be kept short, simple and intense. Gonna try to do more strongman training, particularly stuff that doesnt have much of an eccentric…easier to recover from.
Tire flips x 20 / stone to shoulder x 10
Wrestle/play with the kiddo
Supper
Tricep pushdown x 100 reps
Meant to do more and hit some assistance/more of the daily work than i did, but my wife and i ended up having a really nice conversation till late this evening. And doing that matters more…will never complain about using my time that way.
Even so, the main strength/power work i wanted to do was the tire flips and stone to shoulder. Didnt do a lot of volume, but it was good work regardless. And how i wrote it didnt describe how i did it either. Just numbers.
I want to get my keg filled up and start throwing that thing around…i just dont know how to open it. But it would be a great addition to my training thats for sure.
So i have been debating on whether to put out this post or not, but i figured that i have been open about my family’s struggles as is, so i will continue to do so.
The short version is that my family has run into some financial strain that we will be trying to catch up on for 2-3 months. Its not anything bad per say, i still have lots of work and so on. Its just life and thats how it goes sometimes. But because we will be playing catch up for a while, i had to go off my high fat diet because we are going to be on a tight grocery budget.
I have been able to sort out a way of keeping my blood sugar under control (so far…i mean its only been a week and a half or so) while utilizing budget foods if you want to call it that.
I know you can do high fat diets on a budget, but my wife and i looked into it and found its more difficult than need be. At least for us during this time.
So i am gonna attempt to log more of my current “diet” and maybe it will help someone out at one point if they find themselves in a similar spot. I have found that my appetite is slowly going up too and stuccoing wont help what so ever…so my wife and i have plans on how to combat this.
Breakfast:
3 eggs scrambled + left over veggitarian chili and 2 cups of coffee
Pre work snack:
Protein shake
Lunch:
2 pb and honey sandwiches + 1 apple
Will log dinner later. Most likely will be 3-4 chicken drums and rice + veggies. Will also probably have some kind of other snack later like cheese and crackers or whatever.
The idea here btw is to focus more on just getting in enough calories to support my overall workload. I will do my best to get in as much protein as i can and using protein shakes and milk will definitely help.
We took today as a bit of a family day. I did fit in daily work, but the rest of the day was more dedicated to family than anything else, and i am grateful for that. I took my son to the park this morning and we played together. I dont have any intentions of sitting on the bench on my phone while my son does his thing. We hiked a bit as a family on some local trails and me and my son wrestled again. Even though i didnt have any training in a traditional sense, aside from daily stuff, i still got activity in and i did it with my family. I live a very physical life and i love it.
What i will say here too is that it was a good day to consider our familys situation. We have been in this town now for almost a year and just renewed our lease for our house. We have had what feels like challenge after challenge, starting a little bit before we moved here. And even right now we are facing a challenge. But despite all this, and the challenges of covid, my wife and i both said that this has been one of our best if not our best year as a married couple. My wife and i share a similar attitude but with a different approach.
We dont make excuses, sit in a corner and wait to die. We get shit done one way or another. I am very much a walk through the front door guns a blazin kind of guy. My wife on the other hand has a more reserved way about her…but one way or another we get through the challenges that life throws our way, and we do it together.
And dont think that the challenges i have shared with you here are the only ones we have dealt with, there were still others i kept to myself and too we have had many challenges throughout our whole marriage. One of my favorite phrases is "Life is hard. Get used to it. " Another that i say all the time is “It builds character.”
Despite covid and our various circumstances, we have had the best year of our marriage this year. Life has been hard, we have dealt with it and are still dealing with it, and it built more character/strength into who we are as individuals and a couple.
Anyways…thats sorta my rant that i needed to get out. I want to do sort of an overall upperbody session tomorrow along with some conditioning. Something that sucks for sure.
Hell yeah. Love the attitude. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks man
First workout
Tricep push down x 100
Facepull x 50
Ab wheel x 25
Chinups x 6/5/4/3/2/1/2/3/4/5/6
Followed by rice/ground pork/leftover chili
Will be doing a second workout
You’re really killing it!
Thanks!
This looks like the worst part. From knees? Still painful.
It was from the knees this time yes, i have been doing a lot from standing lately so i wanted a change…but that was one unbroken set. I could probably have gotten another rep or two, but i left it there. And only the one set there cause i knew i would do more in my second workout, which will happen in another couple hours.
I deleted my previous post where i was trying to talk about some of what i did to get my body feeling better from one of my jobs yesterday, that i am not looking forward to going to today. It was deleted.simply because i was trying to re write something and i accidently hit the reply button.
So for one, i took a really hot shower and did some minor stretches while in the shower. This allowed me to be able to crack my back easily which brought automatic relief.
Then i did some of my jujimufu flexability stuff and this helped a lot too.
If you find for whatever reason you need some flexability in your life, i would highly recommend you look into jujis stuff.
Breakfast this morning was some leftover chicken and rice and i will be slamming a protien shake before i leave for work. Also much coffee.
Planning on doing some full body training for a little while. I was thinking about doing an A/B/C type thing and having strong man stuff thrown in on the weekend still…although i have been doing some reps as soon as i get home before i get in the house…almost a grease the groove thing in a way. I have a couple ideas on a simple but intense full body routine, but if anyone else wanted to throw ideas in i would appreciate it.
I’ve started doing these, and I really like them! Hope to see some results from them anyway now ![]()
Hey man, how’s the dragon flag work going? I learned them right after high school from Mark Lauren’s “You Are Your Own Gym” and always tried to maintain my ability to do them. Lost sight of that recently, I should try just to see if fat-ish GarageRocker can do them.
Yeah im getting results myself, including my elbows feeling 110%
Its getting there…mostly working on negatives. Will be testing later this week…maybe saturday i think. I assume all the ab wheel i been doing should help too
Dive in man, the waters fine out here.
If you are talking deep water i am very interested…i have the programs and what not, but im so limited on equipment right now that i would have to try to find replacement exercises for some stuff. Once i get a better set up, which i have a plan for, it was on my shortlist of programs to be looking at.
I hear you, it took me a little bit to figure out the logistics to allow me to do the program the way I wanted to.
Also, if you do plan on doing it at some point I’d suggest doing it in some part of your slow time at work. I cannot imagine doing it in the middle of AC season.
Yeah in looking through the programs, it worried me a little to start it in the height of stucco season, but starting it in the tail end i think would be fine. But then again, im not afraid to take on a challenge and be in pain.
