I grew up in northern ab…its funny i feel more comfortable in -30°c than +30°c or above like it gets to be here. Thursday especially felt like an oven to me…37°c or 38°c above, no wind and no shade
Yeah i understand that…i grew up in northern alberta
Yeah man, we have some pretty serious temp/humidity fluctuations where I am in western NY. After the initial dread of winter sets in, it ends up not being bad. We dip into the single digits a few times a year but mostly it hangs in the low to mid teens/twenties (F).
Summer just sucks. I hate it every year haha. Normally it hangs around 80 to 90+ with high humidity and frequent pop up showers. I absolutely despise working in it because once you start sweating or get wet, you don’t dry off until you stay inside for an hour or two. It is so uncomfortable, especially if I go into an attic (which can get up to 115-120 F) and work around fiberglass insulation or the fire retardant spray on coatings.
But anyway… water is king, dude. Keep chugging away all day, every day. Once you get a headache or stop sweating, shit can go really bad, really quick.
Monday : Blue collar conditioning…
- Loaded up the scaffold trailer with basically all the scaffold we had…frames, decks ect.
- Carried many 80lbs bags of the powder we use for base coat…bear hug style
Tuesday :
Didnt train last night because…rain today…no work. Plus i buggered up my low back a little at home after work…so im gonna train this morning, focusing on getting my back feeling better, and hopefully i can get in a good one tonight.
Morning :
Landmine squat 4x10 very deep, controlled, pause at bottom
Rdl 4x10 focus on stretch
Meadows row 2x10
- Interrupted, son woke up. Oh well…these three things still helped and felt good *
Afternoon :
Did a bunch of knees over toes stuff and some stuff from juji’s flexibility book. Back definitely started feeling better but not great.
Evening :
Landmine squat 5x5
Rdl 2x8
Rb twists 2 sets
Again…only a few exercises but they felt right. I honestly think today was a win as far as making things feel better goes. Cottage cheese before bed…had roast beef and potatoes for dinner, 2 rice meals earlier in the day (one with turkey sausage and one with tuna), sweet potatoes and turkey sausage at breakfast and a few snacks in the day.
I feel your pain. The humidity here is down right oppressive right now. Heat index of 105 tomorrow. Just shoot me now!
Only 95 up here and the humidity is going to dip into the 50s. This morning was just gross.
That is absolutely atrocious.
As is this, it’s the worst feeling in the world immediately being uncomfortable first thing in the morning, and then having to just put up with it all day.
We were hanging around 90 degrees with 80% humidity the past 3-4 days. Finally down to 80 today, and the weekend looks perfect at 82 degrees and 50%.
@bigdaddi sorry for the meteorologist hijack. As always, awesome work just crushing it when you can.
Its all good man…and thank you
Thursday night
Bench x warmup x 2x12
Worksets x 10x10
Close grip bench x 4x7
Tate press x 10/7/5
Kb swing x 100 reps
Simple and effective. The idea with this workout was doing what was needed and nothing more. I remember Jim Wendler talking one time about how sometimes he used to go and do one lift and then leave…dont remember his reasons why though. I have been really hankerin’ for some benching and i finally jerry rigged something that will work for now. Cottage cheese before bed.
Yesterday (friday) was all about conditioning. I mowed the lawn after work which took a while, and then did a bunch of sled work.
My son was sitting on my sled, and having a great time getting pulled around so i did more than what i thought i would…A lot of arm over arm pulling and a bunch of backwards drags.
But i also got a taste of what this job we started yesterday is gonna be like. I will write that up in my next entry though along with training from today.
Yesterday (saturday) the wife and i and our son took a small road trip to the city…toured around a bit, had a steak and i bought some new roofin shoes. It was a good time. Didnt train at all but managed to do 3 walks with Beau. Slept in this morning, shared breakfast with my son, and am coming up with some ideas on a hard conditioning piece for today.
Follow your plan, but have you ever seen DT?
5 Rounds for Time
- 12 deadlifts
- 9 hang clean
- 6 push press or jerks
The “official” weight is 155 lbs but I use 135 and it still crushes me. It’s one of my favorite weight oriented conditioning workouts… even though it has punched me in the soul the last two times I did it.
I have seen it, just never done it. Maybe today is the day…we will see. My main groups i need to train today is back and shoulders
It’s light enough that I just feel the conditioning effect. The press is the hardest part but 30 reps isn’t enough to wear me out since it’s a jerk.
Bench press x 8/15/12/12
Landmine press x 20/20/20
Superset face pull between sets of landmine
Clean and press x 5/5/5
Superset banded twists between sets of c/p
100 kb swings
Simple, straightforward work. We had another scorcher today too…and that made things not super fun at work. Eating was not on point today
Thought i would share a picture of the site im on…it doesnt show all the scaffolding but either way…its a lot of climbing and working in awkward spots. To get our pails of mud up we have a rope on a pully attached to the top…and im the one who mostly pulls them so far. After a couple pails the old forearms start burning pretty good…after all it is like…40ft or so. Good upperbody pump though lol.
Training will be posted later
That’s a lot of scaffold man. You guys set them up as well?
Not when its that big…smaller stuff we will, but we brought in a scaffold company for this one.
Alright…so…this week has been real busy. Aside from my bench workout, this week was mostly random bodyweight circuits when i could just to keep myself going. Had an early day today, so im gonna get some good training in tonight and through the weekend. I did 4 weeks of hitting my main sessions with that template that i had mentioned, and it was a good change of pace. Now im carrying on with other things…still trying to be semi-functional, semi-athletic and semi-looklikeilift haha. Physique and performance is coming along nicely too.
