A common one is 2 guys on a dual sport/enduro. Guy on the back jumps off, robs/shoots/stabs, jumps back on- done & gone very quickly. We have knock down crews and bank robbery crews that have a getaway driver, but the 2 on a bike is a new development.
My wife actually saw one start, presumably with her being the target a couple weeks ago. 2 guys pulled in on her & my son as they were entering a store, and even walked in behind them for about 20 feet. They stopped at the large monitor that says “You Are Being Monitored On Video”, turned around and took off.
I think the only thing that stopped the bike guys was that their timing was bad and they were a little late. Nobody, and I mean nobody, pulls a bike into the front entrance of this store front like they did, or leaves their helmets on to go shopping.
Street rat swarms- thats when a dozen or so just swarm somebody and basically strip them naked. Also a big south/central america thing.
How it translates- we’ve been seeing these types of swarms in retail stores long enough now that it doesn’t even seem out of place any more, but that wasn’t even a thing until a few years ago.
There was always looting during riots, and regular stick ups, but these flash mob swarms are a new pattern.
For years now you’ve acted as if you have some lofty insight into Americans (especially conservatives) while managing to be repeatedly wrong in almost every take you have offered.
In my town at least, the overwhelming majority of our myriad issues would soon subside if we just turned off a few of the money fountains.
It would soon return to as it was for generations, where only people who could support themselves would bother to move here. The dysfunctional people who have gravitated to this state to engage in crime or get free money will either get with the program, end up in jail/deported or simply go mooch off of another population of gullible American liberals.
What people are beginning to understand is that 3rd world conditions in America represent a massive political success as well as increased opportunities for future political success for American Democrats.
I’m living in a model Democrat jurisdiction. Let’s see what sort of cultural enrichment this weekend will bring. I’m told that diversity is the source of Maine’s strength.
Well, I know that you cannot detain, temporarily house and move 20 million illegals without a massive expansion of the security apparatus, however appealing that may sound on an emotional level. Facts don’t care about your feelings, amirite?
If you really believe this and not BSing, then I have a bridge to sell you.
Well, the GOP plan for America - if we’re to believe what’s being written and said by Trump and his surrogates, not the lying MSM, the globalists or whomever - is basically a Marxist assault on the middle class that would make Chavez proud. I’m talking of course about the proposed import tariffs that would trigger a massive inflation surge and make hundrerds of millions of Americans much poorer overnight. With the added foreign policy boon that the Politburo of the PRC would basically determine at will the standard of living in the US.
I’m fine with temporary emergency measures to restore a stable society. Maine Democrats literally legalized all public drug use and lawless shantytowns with a 100 percent sexual assault rate for female inhabitants as an emergency measure in an ostensible response to Maine’s “Homelessness Crisis”.
Just this week my local Democrats, led by a self-aggrandizing apparent tax cheat who owes her landlord $7,500.00, began offering Narcan training to all public school students. No parental approval required. Parents can only opt out if they are aware of the training, and they were only made aware through social media posts by private citizens posting the letter that was given to students to give to their parents.
Predictably, the people who object to foisting this responsibility on children are being portrayed as uncaring monsters who want people to die.
Democrats have simultaneously enacted radical emergency measures to ostensibly combat homelessness while also declaring that Maine has a shortage of migrants and needs to attract at least 75,000 more.
They do this while insisting that our local elections must run on the honor system, with no citizenship verification whatsoever, citing anti-racism as a basis as if racism ever was coded into Maine law, which it wasn’t in any meaningful way.
Here you use the particularly un-clever trick of equating apples to oranges. I’m not talking about skin color here, but the incentives that immigrant populations have acted upon throughout history. Maine’s recent immigrants mostly immigrated to Maine because the government takes money from people who live and work here and hands it to people who do not.
It really is that simple, and comparing Maine’s immigration wave of state dependents from distant lands only choosing Maine because of free money to other immigration waves of people who self-select to move here to carve out a life is a stupid comparison from a factual point of view, but extremely clever from a political point of view.
I grew up in farm country and the Mexican migrant laborers largely busted ass and shared our values. They weren’t there for a handout.
That wouldn’t happen in the way you describe, just like nothing else has happened in the way that you describe. For someone who likes to prattle on about the so-called fantasies of American conservatives, you sure seem to enjoy partaking in your own little version of political fantasy storytelling.
You remind me of Peter Zeihan, who has successfully predicted 55 of the last 5 major geopolitical events. Or Vlad Vexler, who I once listened to as he explained for 25 minutes the political calculations taking place inside Donald Trumps mind in the seconds between getting shot and pumping his fist.
You’re all in love with the smell of your own farts.
There should be a path to legal status for those who have jobs combined with employers being sanctioned for hiring illegals after a grace period. You can work with employers to bring people in legally.
If Jewish space laser conspiracy theorists think a woman is too racist, maybe trump should reconsider having her in his inner circle? Alas, the heart wants what the heart wants.
You’re so close to getting it. Why do majority of illegals come to the US? Because there are (low paying) jobs available for them that American citizens won’t do. There was a massive drop in border crossings in 2008/09. It’s a) either Obama’s achievement or b) the effects of the financial crisis that dramatically shrunk the job market. Pick one.
Why do more Haitians move to the US than to Trudeau’s third world immigrant-loving socialist dictatorship where there are two metropolitan centers where a similar language is spoken? Don’t tell me Maine has better welfare than Canada.
The uncomfortable reality is that modern societies are dependent on cheap (illegal) immigrant labor that manifests itself through lower costs throughout the supply chains, especially for consumer goods and services.
If you want to remove/reduce illegal immigration, you have to remove the pull factors, namely incentives for crossing the border. And that’s jobs. The removal of the illegal workforce means a dramatic increase in supply chain costs, a burden which no one, and especially the end consumer, is willing to shoulder.
So all this complaining about illegals it’s just futile bitching if one’s not committed to address the pull factors. Plus, the GOP has a strong incentive to ensure a steady flow of illegals (Trump’s intervention killed the bipartisan border deal) because that’s the only semi coherent policy on which they can mobilize their base. And for that you need high profile migrant crime.
That’s…that’s not what happened. You’re romanticizing a non-existent past.
Which would in turn motivate more people to cross illegally as there would be a viable path to legalize their status.
Hey, at least it’s an intellectual pursuit instead of a desperate and never ending effort to constantly retcon one’s political beliefs and opinions to fully align with an ever shifting chaotic authoritarian cult.
#1 Because we’ve opened the border entirely through policy and lack of barriers of all types. #2 Economic opportunities #3 Hand-outs #4 Collective guilt instilled by Democrats who insist US citizens have a responsibility to provide for people from distant lands
In the case of Lewiston, Maine, our latest wave of immigrants initially came by way of the hellscape known as Atlanta, Georgia. They didn’t move here for the climate, they moved here because of housing availability in Lewiston (often lead-tainted) and generous state benefits that Georgia did not offer. Nonprofits have steadily built up securing funding from all kinds of sources to pump more money into enabling this movement of people that would never have occurred if not for massive cash incentives ultimately derived from US tax dollars.
State and local policies have similarly been constructed to incentivize more refugees from the world over to move here in the midst of a housing shortage. Nobody has been able to say how many languages our local public school is attempting to teach in right now. It is somewhere north of 10, I believe.
Tell me then, why Maine, of all places? I love it when liberals from away explain things in my town to me.
Good lord man, lay off the Heather Cox Richardson.
It is also likely that Maine had overall better social welfare than Canada when non-profits are included with benefits disbursed directly by the government. At least it was 20 years ago when the great resettlement from ATL to Lewiston took place. Maine Care (“free” heath care for low or no income people) was enacted shortly before that, I believe. That cannot be the case right now as there’s nowhere to live and the school has gone to complete crap, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping more people from arriving.
Our enrollment numbers in schools and social welfare programs are looking to continue to expand rapidly. Our tax base is not. The former is all that particularly matters to Maine Democrats.
There are very strong incentives to have as many kids as possible for state aid recipients in Maine, and immigrants aren’t the only ones taking advantage of that social welfare incentive.
Every shooting in town presents a new opportunity for Democrats to show how deeply they care by speaking platitudes and having community forums that will result in no policy changes.
Why would Maine Democrats ever want to improve the conditions in Maines population centers? They are having massive political success with this formula.
In theory I think that’s great. In practice, many illegals are working transient labor jobs for multiple different employers who schedule them daily or weekly… Meaning that the process described above is too long and inflexible.
Setting aside issues with the proposed mass deportation, I think making gainful employment (or public service)a prerequisite for staying here, would be pretty popular across both aisles. What percentage of illegal immigrants are unemployed (not including children)? And do those numbers consider stay at home mothers (as we all know childcare is very expensive)?
They are a net drain on the economy so they are taking more than they give.
What people don’t understand, because most Americans are not immigrants or even first generation, is how immigration worked in the past.
First off, there was no welfare or other entitlements for anyone, including Americans. You didn’t come here expecting free shit because there wasn’t any. You came here and then went to dig canals or build bridges or mine or whatever. Immigrant children did this as well. Eventually you had child labor laws but adults still worked because the other option was starve. Because of this, not just anyone was allowed in. If you couldn’t work because you were disabled, including mentally, you were sent back. They actually gave immigrants at Ellis Island intelligence tests.
At some point, I don’t know exactly when, maybe after WW2, you couldn’t just hop on a ship, land at Ellis Island, and get vetted there. The US enacted quotas for individual nations and you had to apply in your home country and get put on a waiting list to come here. The wait could be several years. And you weren’t allowed in if you weren’t going to be working. You weren’t coming here expecting handouts.
The point is, people are coming here with no intention, or even ability, to work. If there are all of these jobs we need filled by illegals, then why are they living in hotels in NYC and given debit cards? Construction is hard and you need the skill to do it. Give some of these guys a hammer and they’ll ask who owes you money. There just aren’t enough low skill jobs for all of the illegals invading. Technology has eliminated the need for them in large numbers. We aren’t building a transcontinental railroad or hundreds of skyscrapers and subway systems or dams and canals.
Construction, both low skill and high skill, is rife with illegals, IME. Same with back of house service industry IME. I have lived in a few different agg areas, and that is also rife with illegals. Just from your comments above it’s obvious how disconnected you are from those industries. I’d imagine I’ve been driven around a time or two by an illegal taxi/Uber/Lyft driver too.
For what it’s worth, I think it’s a fine idea to limit welfare benefits for illegals to 1 month, and require gainful employement or public service (within the last month). But, I do think it is a good idea to help get immigrants on their feet initially, so they can build a productive life here.
