Looks like declaring war on coal, fracking, the police, steel & heavy industry, and treating tradesmen like they’re a bunch of luddite scumbags wasn’t a good strategy.
The rainbow brigades maybe had to stay home cuz of anxiety and snuggle with their emotional support hair dye.
Not a great turn out though, no matter how you slice it. Labor Day is typically a pretty gigantic freakin deal around here too.
All of the union guys I know are deep red and like having a job and money.
Holy hyperbole! Folks on this forum really gobbled down that MAGA fear and outrage bait, hook line and sinker.
If you really think that one particular subset of this country are the only people that make it run, you are a moron. And if you don’t think both sides of the political spectrum pander to that particular subset, you are also a naive.
I only see you post hateful diatribes against “leftist scum”, etc. Curiously, what percentage of democratic voters do you think are good, quality people?
I think the election is pretty much a tossup at this point. Looking at 2016 and 2020, both of those elections were very close. A few tens of thousands of voters in the right states could have shifted both of those elections. Seven key states are generally talked about: Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Polling in all of these states shows that they are all close (within 2 points in most polls). Harris will probably win the popular vote, but she’ll need to win by 2 or 3 points to win the electoral college.
Also, polling in 2016 and 2020 underestimated Trump’s support by several points. On the other hand, polling in 2022 overestimated Republican support. Trump endorsed candidates, in particular, seemed to underperform their polling.
I’m optimistic that Harris has peaked and will start to struggle as she has to move past the joy platitudes, but I think this is too close to call with any certainty.
You may be correct here, but I have a different take only based upon my observations / gut reaction. That is that the polls didn’t really account for lack of enthusiasm for Clinton. When asked, it seemed like Clinton would win because more people favored her over Trump, but they didn’t favor her enough to show up (likely because many thought it was almost certain she would win). I might be wrong? Did Trump actually outperform polls, or did Clinton under-perform polls? Maybe combo of both?
I think Trump’s winning in 2016 and SCOTUS ruling on Roe has had an effect on turnout. Dems historically have had poor turnout compared to the GoP (I believe the Dem base is bigger, but with poor turnout), but we saw higher turnout in 2020 and 2022 (which midterms are usually terrible for Dem turnout) from Dem voters.
Look at the recent mismessaging from the trump campaign about abortion in Florida. Trump is obviously being told that the abortion issue is hurting him so he went off script to tone down his stance, but his staffers freaked out about angering his base and they had to walk back his statement. t’s clear how the large majority of Americans feel about it, so it really comes down to how many Americans prioritize the issue high enough for it to sway their vote away from the right.
It is for sure too close to call at this point. Can’t wait for the debate!
It isn’t a huge deal to me, but I am a dude. For women, it seems quite important from what I’ve gathered talking with them. That makes sense to me. I mean a kid is a big deal, it is completely life changing. The status quo was that a woman could make a decision on having it or not. That is a lot of power which was viewed as a right. Threatening to take that away is threatening to take power from women, which I can understand being a big deal to women.
It comes down to ones views it seems. If you think it is unjustified killing (murder), it might be enough for you to be a single issue voter. If you think it is justified killing, then it is a right that gives women a lot more control over their lives, and that might be enough to be a single issue voter. It seems a majority of women voters are in the latter.
It’s a matter of perspective. I understand, and can appreciate you view it as stopping the killing of babies. I don’t think you’re evil for being strongly prolife. But i, and most others view it as a health decision for a woman to make about her own body in consultation with a medical doctor.
Guttmacher says most abortion patients are young and already have children. I don’t know the stats on why every abortion occurs, but if you’re young (20s) and have already succesfully had children, it doesn’t seem like you’re probably having an abortion for health reasons. Maybe you are, but probably not, right? Other sources say over a quarter have one because they don’t want to take time and attention away from other children, and 20% because it would get in the way of a career or education. Again, those don’t seem like “health reasons.”
You’re a dad, right? You should know all about health issues and complications involved in a pregnancy/birth. That shit is real. If a woman doesn’t want to risk her health/life, why should she be forced to by the government?
The exact timing varies, but fetal viability is somewhere around 20-24 weeks I think. Should a woman be able to terminate her pregnancy prior to fetal viability, or should the state force her to carry the fetus to term despite all known risks? Or should the mother be able to choose to end her pregnancy, prior to viability, and avoid those risks?
Most people agree that abortion should be legal, and the dispute is what the cutoff date should be. For me, it would be fetal viability outside the mother. And prior to that date, it should be a hard choice made by the woman and her doctor, IMO.
I believe at the core of the issue is bodily autonomy for the pro choice argument, not the right to kill babies. By that I mean, the concept that one should have rights to their own body. I agree with that concept. If I agree to that concept, it seems inconsistent to think that abortion should be prohibited even if I think it is often done for poor reasons. I also tend to think things like drug use shouldn’t be prohibited otherwise I’d be inconsistent.
