Of course it is about feelings. That’s why they could make grand declarations in 2017 about being a “sanctuary destination”, which @zecarlo has diligently pointed out is a completely different concept than being a sanctuary city. In 2017 they could say those words without any expectation that they would ever have to back them up with actions.
Like student loans, these actions deserve to be forgiven and forgotten.
In other news, the news tells me that Joe Biden’s approval rating is on the rise. Do we have anyone in this thread who has recently warmed up to the Biden Administration? If so, can you explain what caused your opinion to change?
My ears were burning, as your resident Hispanic/ Czech, I can speak to gun rights/ ownership. The Czech’s mostly fall along the standard European fear of firearms, but that being said, it is probably the most 2a of the NATO block countries. You can get a gun, but it is not easy. You have to have a ‘good reason’, I.E. be toting a lot of cash around or jewelry and you have to deal with bureaucracy. I only knew of one guy there that carried a gun ever, he was a Serbian jeweler ex-pat, who took up Czech citizenship.
Hunting rifles are, or were allowed even under communism. The population was so thoroughly beaten down and submissive that the Soviets did not even worry people would use them on them and people never did. At least no incidents of note ever occurred.
Sadly, I feel the old world is again willfully succumbing to outer tyranny once again. The Czech’s have never met an enemy they were not willing to surrender to. The only good part of that is most of Prague and the country side get’s to keep their castles and chateaus in pristine condition as they have never been bombed.
I can attest to that! Holy crap… I dated a girl there briefly, total smoke-show. Zaneta (zsha-netta) was her name and being built like a brick-shit house was her game. I have fond memories of her and I still wear the bracelet she gave me from way back then. I hope she’s okay, she was very, uh, affectionate, feminine and appropriately naïve. The distance was too great and the frequency of my ability to see her was too infrequent. Especially, pre-social media, which came out in force only a couple of years later. Yeah, I contemplate the what-if’s from time to time. Damn…
If you can make an American salary, in the Czech Rep. it very well could be your paradise. Unlike most western European countries that converted totally to the Euro, the dollar still goes there further than it does here. But things are not all well there.
The creep of socialism from western Europe is also darkening the sky’s of the Czech Rep. Unlike the Pol’s who also know better, the resistance against is far weaker. I have heard things from people who definitely ought to know better, make me fear that totalitarianism, it whatever form it takes will always have a toe-hold in Prague.
They took Covid way too seriously as well. The old communist check points were revived and the government had to be aware of all your movements. And if you actually got it, you were under constant watch.
I can say this, when the world is doing okay and is in relative peace, the Czech Rep. is an awesome place to be.
Just out side of Prague there is this steak place called the ‘Alabama Steak House’. This place was a riot. You walk in, they had the ‘Beverly Hillbillies’ theme song on repeat. In the vestibule you are greeted with an American Flag and the Confederate stars and bars forming an ‘X’. Their idea of western or southern American charm was hilarious.
The steaks were awesome too, but it’s not like a steak you would expect to get in like Amarillo, TX. It was awesome. We had an amazing time…
I always wondered if anything in that show was even somewhat accurate. I mean, I really really liked it, but I didn’t know if they were just absolutely making everything up or what.
Today we learned another Joe Biden fact. He was raised in the Puerto Rican community of Delaware. This is particularly unusual considering that only 0.39% of Delaware’s population was Puerto Rican when he was first elected to Senate, but Joe Biden has lived a very remarkable life.
This must’ve been after the time when he saw a gay couple making out on a street corner with his dad and had to wipe the oil slicks off of their windshields but before his truck driving career.
Now it makes sense why the Biden Administration has outfitted the Secret Service with modified Honda Civics.
Yep. I worked with a big crew of Puerto Ricans and the two things at the top of their list to do while here stateside was to visit the Roberto Clemente memorial at PNC Park and to see the childhood home of Joe Biden.
I lived in Eastern PA in the early '00’s and had a lot of Puerto Rican friends, coworkers and neighbors. This doesn’t make me some kind of expert on Puerto Rican culture like Joe Biden, it just make me a guy who counts Puerto Ricans among the funniest friends I’ve ever had, not to mention all of the impressive Honda Civics.
