Shitty we can spend trillions extra over the past couple years, and still can’t figure out education.
We do have it figured out. If you want a college education, your parents can save up to put you through. Or you can work hard in high school and get a scholarship. Or you can work and put yourself through. Or you can join the military. Or YOU can take out loans that YOU need to pay back. That’s a lot of options for education.
I like the idea of a voluntary tax that people can decide to pay, that’s used just to put kids through college.
And if your high school grades are OK, you qualify.

High school grades are meaningless. The difference between schools (even within the same school district) is emense. Here in town, getting all As on one side of town versus getting all As on the other side of town means two completely different things. You could base it off of standardized testing, but then rich kids who can hire tutors like my wife still have an advantage.
It would be nice if the government got out of higher education completely and quit causing the prices to continually go up. But I don’t think post-secondary education is a right, by any means. Not something we should have to pay for.
