You should be able to pick up some primo Aussie lobster for cheap this year after China banned their importation out of spite.

What’s constitutes “cheap”? I haven’t eaten proper, fancy lobster in almost ten years! Lobster is the one you crack open with like a mallet right?
Cheaper, than last year. 2020 $140/kg, down to 70/kg 2021. (still fuggin $$$) This year beef, pork, lamb etc is supposed to massively rise in Aus.
You can crack it open with a mallet, or split it down the middle with a big knife or cleaver.

There is no prohibition against it being presented as a lobster roll.
Already out of the shell, with a light dressing (or just lemony butter) and jammed into a buttery toasted bun, while watching the fishermen across the water. Man oh man - I could eat one of these right now at 5am!!

Most of these bottom dwelling crustaceans taste neutral to me. Mostly whatever the dressing or sauce brings.
Steak cooked over wood or even charcoal though…

I remember almost ten years ago I was in Mexico and I had this FANTASTIC lobster (one of the only times I’ve ever eaten lobster). It was buttery, there was garlic…
One of the best meals I’ve ever had @loppar it was NOT overrated.
I’ve tried them on one occasion with some family in Europe. Hard to eat that kind of food with my immediate and extended family in Europe as (most) are kosher and I know it’ll make them feel uncomfortable if I eat say… Prawns or pork in front of them. Scallops (imo) doesn’t compare to lobster, but as specified it’s been almost ten years; perhaps my tastes have changed.
That and with covid restaurants have been shut here for say 90% of the past 24 months. Been a VERY long time since I’ve eaten at a restaurant that wasn’t a fast food restaurant.
This is typically what I eat (steak) when my folks don’t make dinner, though I don’t cook it on a barbeque. A one minute steak (very thin slice), an egg or two and some salad or something to accompany… And some AVOCADOS, like SEVEN of them @BrickHead

I get preference but the area I live in is responsible for the lion’s share of the world’s scallops … I get em about as fresh as one can when one isn’t a fisherman and freshness matters … so does preparation … I personally love them with butter and breadcrumbs … muy delicioso

That’s true for some, but not for others. Many just want fewer people to have the money for lobster.
(Edit: the “right” seems to believe, for the most part, that “a rising tide lifts all bots; the “left” prefers that a few boats sit upon the pile of boats beneath them-the left is made up of jealous, nasty people who do not care as much about even their own quality of life as they do about their quality of life relative to others)
Do you have an Aldi nearby? 2 lobster tails for $30 or so. Treat yourself. You’re worth it.

The real libbies, like you have in NYC and CA, want you to have the bestest lobster ever, for free, as long as it’s not from their personal lobster boats, and as long as you eat those lobsters in your own grimy little shithole.
Lobster was peasant food before the enterprising people of Maine developed the technology to sell it to outsiders at a ridiculous markup.
Unfortunately, the price of lobster is up like the price of everything else.

You judge them too kindly. In their case, because I don’t think they’re stupid, I attribute their desired policies to malice.
It’s all about self interest. You say it’s “malice”, but that’s a little too far “right” for me.
I’ve mentioned ox tail more than once in these forums. Ox tail used to be almost a give away; now, it’s double digits per pound LOL. (I think ox tail is delicious, I also think it’s now a rip off.)
