China is ramping up it’s invasion force to take Taiwan. At this point it is an inevitability. That is going to spark a war, but not a far off war. This one will be serious. And now they know how incompetent we are, they are emboldened. Go see what the CCP is saying and the threats they are making regarding Taiwan. When that happens, we are going to bumble and stumble and back-in to a major conflict.

How many us troops do you estimate it would take to secure the capital city with zero help from locals, no local police or military, surrounded by an enemy of 20years and another enemy with a proclivity for suicide attacks?

The Taliban weren’t going to enter the city, so I would say it wouldn’t take any more than the troops we snuck at of Bagram in the middle of the night. And they could have taken all those weapons with them.

The US had one helluva tough time securing the airport. I would think that a capital city (with the Taliban and ISIS already inside) would be exponentially more difficult.
IDK if it was the right call to let the Taliban take over Kabul… But I don’t think it’s a cut-dry awful incompetent decision to do so.
So what do we do in that situation? Allow the threat of a terror attack stop the rushed evacuation of Americans and allies from a hostile nation? Just shut down the entrance gate until… When? The threat is over? It would still be closed. Legitimately, how do you handle that situation?
It only takes one. However, it isn’t about near Kabul but in Kabul, and there are probably more than our experts believe.
To get clear I think we fucked up many aspects of this, but ultimately getting out of Afghanistan should have happened a long time ago. If we were waiting for it to be safe or to keep the Taliban from taking power it would never happen.
Biden deserves blame for mishandling this no doubt. But Bush, Obama, Trump deserve far more blame for not doing it when they had power. Biden’s just the one left holding the bag.
