No, but when I see shit from fox news, sky News, the new yorker, buzzfeednews or 80% of Australian media outlets, I take it with a grain of salt…
There are a few independent outlets/journals that I tend to go by. That and published, PEER reviewed academic journals. Even these aren’t free of bias
It’s not nearly as bad as the “fake news” schtick. But media narratives portrayed within say, Sky News or the New Yorker tend to contain a lot of politicised fluff that skews the story being told in order to cater towards a particular bias. It isn’t to say the story isn’t true, rather the slant associated with the story skews the facts.
I don’t like it… Doesn’t help me form a fully fledged, informative opinion on anything.
Go to ANY Australian media outlet aside from sky News, look up “gun laws”.
It’s all shitting on America/other countries with biased statistics, not taking into account per capita analysis etc. Scare tactics, using big numbers etc
Not to say I inherently agree with America’s approach to guns (I like Greenland’s approach, isreal’s approach, Nordic states… Note Isreal does appear to allow conceal carry)… But Australia’s approach is restrictive, over the top and has paved way to the development of a nanny state pandering towards societal infantilism at every corner. Yet media outlets here are of the narrative “this way is the ONLY way! Look at this big scary number! Look at it!!!”
There are various centrist media outlets one can view… CNN isn’t one of them
If you want to come here, perhaps visit one of the islands offshore to Aus but still considered Aussie territory. Far less restrictive, less regulated… Catered towards tourism from locals and international visitors alike.
If you have a pre-existing gun license in the US chances are you can do a bunch of fun shit like hunting here that normal citizens are otherwise restricted from participating in.
