3-mile walk, 40 lb vest (47:07)

I got to wear my new hunting boots on this walk to start getting them broken in. They felt pretty good. My feet got a little sore by the end, and I think I need a little bit more arch support, but I’m happy with them.

I’m going to log this here in case it ends up affecting my training one way or the other, so I’ll have it for reference. I got a new job at work. I interviewed for it almost two months ago, and the committee finally made it’s decision. It’s actually a two-spot jump from where I’m at currently, as I’ll be moving from an engineer to a director position. It’s probably a good fit for me, but it’s a lot more responsibility and stress. I’m also jumping over my manager (who also applied for the job), who will now be reporting to me, after I’ve reported to him for the last 11 years. So lots of stuff going on, and potential for some high stress for a while.
It’s honestly not exactly what I wanted. I’ve never wanted to be management. But when the previous director left, it opened the door for a big shift in the structure of the organization, and I decided this is where I would fit the best and where I could do the most good. So we’ll see how I handle being the boss…

Congratulations! And good luck—but like everything else, you’re gonna crush this!

Honestly the worst part is that weighted vest digging in to my traps.

Thank you, sir. I am very confident I will do well in the role, but it will be a new challenge and learning experience for me.

I just couldn’t bring myself to train abs tonight. I did fill up my new sandbag and played around with it for a bit, though. It’s the Rogue strongman 150 lb and, man, is that a workout. Had me gassed.

Also, my left elbow is in a lot of pain. It just started this week, and I’m not sure what triggered it. I’m just now getting most of the pain out of my right elbow, and now this. Oh well. I guess it’s the price we pay for glory…

4 miles with 40 lb vest (1:00:04)

I got up early and got some hungover squats done. Cut it short because I’ve got a million things to do today. Had some family issues come up so missed some training this weekend, but all good now. Everybody happy and healthy.

I’m probably going to be cutting my training short this week; I’ve got so much other stuff to do , but I want to make sure I’m getting something in, especially my main lifts. It’s embarrassing that this is a bench press PR, but there you go.

I completely forgot about the @simo74 front squat challenge. I don’t know when it ended, but I never tried a max. So I didn’t feel like doing sets of 10, and worked my way up to a heavy single instead. I actually tried 315 but failed; I think I had it in me, I just need to practice heavy singles more. The strength is there.

A PR is a PR, my man—congrats and nice work!

That’s some sick front squat work, too.

You really need to talk to someone about your problems

I’ve not been on here in a few days. I’ve been so crazy busy with the new position at work and preparing for my trip. We’re leaving in the morning for Colorado for archery season. I’ve actually been taking it easy on my “heavier” lifting; my feet and knees were starting to feel pretty bad. I’ve been very hard on them this summer, with no breaks. And since archery season is one of the “performances” for which I train all year, it made sense to modify my training to peak for it. And this is going to be pretty demanding hunting. We’ll be sleeping in tents at night and backpacking through the mountains chasing elk during the day. I’m looking forward to it, but it also takes a lot of preparation.

The only thing to which I’m not really looking forward is the drive out. It’ll be about a 30-hour drive, and because of certain participants schedules, we’re doing it all in one shot, rotating 4 drivers. In the past we’ve taken as many as 3 days to make this trip. So, it’s going to start us off behind the 8-ball, stress-wise.

But hopefully I’ll fill the freezer for the coming year. Nothing on earth is more anabolic than elk steaks.

I also do not have any cell service out there, so won’t be checking in here for a while.
