Thanks a ton @simo74. The words of encouragement from you and everyone else here is much appreciated!
Well, I tested positive for covid. Again. Right now feeling achey and flu-like, but no fever. Coughing up a lot of phlegm. Feel pretty crummy at the moment. I guess I need to invoke my Wolverine healing powers again.
Sorry to hear that. If you are too crook to lift then it’s a good time to do 1000’s of calf raises. ![]()
That sucks, man. Hope it passes quickly!

Thanks @simo74 and @SvenG for the well-wishes. Still feeling poorly overall, but time to get back at it. Squats felt surprisingly strong, considering how weak I feel. I also have not been eating enough the last few days. It did feel really good to have the bar on my back.

Pullups
Arms
Just did some stuff in the weightroom interspersed with a bunch of yard work. So done in jeans and work boots.
Just for reference, when I list these abs/arms/pullups days, I usually set a timer for a set amount of time and try to get as many pullups (or some other upper back exercise) as I can during that time. Same thing with abs; just one exercise done for a set amount of time. Then I’ll superset arms for 3 sets. For instance, today I supersetted barbell curls (with fat grips) and LTEs. Just 3 sets of each. And that’s it. So it’s still a recovery day from my compound strength work days but I get some stuff in and get to work on my beach muscles a little bit. I’m fortunate that - for a skinny dude - my arms respond pretty well to this small amount each week (in addition to the work they get from all of the pressing and pulling).
My covid symptoms have improved, but I still feel like I have a head/chest cold and a pretty substantial cough. Also, I’m still testing positive. So I’m stuck at home and bored out of my mind. Thankfully, I have my own weightroom here, so training has not been interrupted.

I’m still feeling the effects of the virus. It feels like I have a chest cold and can’t shake this cough. But I feel much better. Unfortunately, my poor wife has it now and it is really putting the boots to her. She’s been in bed for 3 days. Hopefully she starts turning around soon. So my job is now nursing her back to health. But I can train while she sleeps!

This session actually felt pretty good. I’m now negative for Covid, but still feeling a little bit of chest congestion. Thankfully my wife is much better now, too. All that being said, life stress is kind of off the charts right now, so it feels good just to lift. And the fact that I had some good sessions this week is a bonus. I’ll be travelling for work for the next week, so we’ll see what happens, training-wise. I may shift gears and really lean into the conditioning I’ve been neglecting; hunting season is right around the corner.
My Spotify weightroom playlist was randomly pretty heavy on the Skid Row today. I imagine that helped the deadlifts more than anything else…
All I can recommend is listen to your body, and rest a bit more if required. Took me a week or so ramping things back up conditioning wise. Had similar chesty congestion for a while too.
Thanks man. Yeah this cough seems to be the only real lingering situation. And maybe I’m still feeling less energy?
Thanks bro!
Hows that cough going mate. You good ?
Yeah I’m good, thanks. The cough is mostly gone and I’m back to being “healthy.”
General update: Just got back from travelling for work. I was able to get some conditioning stuff done most mornings in the hotel.
I ate pretty good on the companies dime. Lunch was provided by the venue where we were training. It was good food, but very little protein most days. I tried to make up for it in the evenings. Honestly, I was concerned that I would lose too much weight. So my goal was to come home having maintained my weight. Turns out I gained a little bit, which is fine by me!
Stepped on the scales at 219 lb this morning. Now time to get back to training. Will now be adding in some hunting season preparation, which will mostly include shooting my bow before and/or after my workouts everyday. I shoot throughout most of the year, but it’s time to buckle down and start shooting from different situations.
I’ve secured a really great opportunity to hunt whitetails on some private land in the Midwest this year, in addition to my home state. I am very excited, so I want to be as prepared as possible. I’m hoping to secure the rights to hunt this property annually.

Nice to see you back at it. Any lingering effects from COVID, or are you feeling pretty good these days?
Thanks. I’m feeling well. I still cough a bit when I first get up and occasionally throughout the day, but it’s barely noticeable anymore. Time to keep pushing forward!
That’s some nice squatting right there, especially for a giant. Quality
Ha! Thanks. Instead of being a giant, I just wish I had a giant squat. Hopefully all of the squatting will make me even giant-er.
You’re doing pretty darn good! Maybe someday I’ll be able to rep 300 lbs instead of it being a max effort. I don’t know the ideal ratios of limb and torso length for squats, but I don’t have them. At least I have my deadlifts.
