Pretty good workout. Cut out the leg work at the end for time. Had to get this in early so I can drive 3 hours to play a round of golf with my brother for his birthday. I always seem to end up making these drives right after I beat up my lower back. The worst part about today is I have to drive the 3 hours home after we’re done playing. But it’s fine; it’ll be fun.

Hips are still not feeling great, but I realized today that my shoulders haven’t hurt for a long time. I guess I finally worked it out of my system (whatever I did to them last archery season).

I’m going to claim my calves have grown a little. I wore my knee sleeves to squat today, which I haven’t done in maybe a year? Just on a whim. When I took them off, I had to actually pull them off of my calves, whereas before they just slid right off. So either my calves grew or my knee sleeves shrunk. I’ll take it, either way.

After this little session I probably sweated out 3 gallons while mowing the lawn.

My wife then took me out for wood-fired pizza and ice cream for my birthday. I also had a nice glass of bourbon. I think it was called Revolution? I’m now 44.

Happy birthday, and welcome to the 44s Club!

Thanks! And glad to be in the club. I feel like I’m approaching my prime!

You and me both, dude!

I’ve probably said it elsewhere already, but I look and feel better at 44 than I did at 24.

Hope you find the same thing.

I’m definitely bigger, stronger and look better now than at 24. Feel better? I’m not so positive about that, haha. I was so hard on myself in my twenties that all of the broken bones and dislocated joints are catching up now.

Thankfully, it’s all stuff I can train through (or around), and the constant reminder of my mortal fragility is enough motivation for me to train to fight off the reaper every day.

It’s a good club indeed. Happy birthday!

+1 on stronger at 44 than at 24 here too for sure. A tad wiser maybe also?

Possible, but questionable.

Bench felt pretty good. I had to power through these squats, though; my hips were really hurting.

I wish I could sleep better. When I read on here about people that can’t function if they don’t get 8 hours I’m befuddled. With one exception, I can’t think of any adults that I know that actually get that much sleep. I’m stoked if I can get 6 decent hours. Even that seems like a luxury most of the time.

To be honest, I wasn’t going to do this, as I don’t care that much. But I realized the logs I enjoy reading the most are the ones that include pictures occasionally, even if “aesthetics” are not the goal. So, it’s not really fair of me to not contribute. I train for strength, with aesthetics a distant second. That being said, looking good would be a nice side effect. I have achieved neither thus far. At worst, I will include these in my log for my own sake. These photos were taken on my 44th birthday (6’4", 212 lb):

Dude, aesthetics are not the goal because you’re already jacked!

Love all the chalk on those shorts, too—you’ve obviously been working hard.

Thanks man! I appreciate the sentiment, And, honestly, I am pretty happy with where I’m at. I would really like to get quite a bit stronger, though. That’s a slow road.

Also, I just realized how bad the lighting is in those pictures. I could have at least made an effort! haha

Don’t be modest. You should be proud. You look fantastic.

Thank you, sir! I actually am happy with where I am. I’m not sure any of us ever get to where we’re content, though.
