100% this. The GOP was forced way too hard into populism to unring that bell. They’d sac the virtual complete control they have over this nation’s various govts
It’s definitely going to be interesting to see the future of politics now that the GOP has kicked some of their more major tenants to the curb
Of course I care who the GOP runs. Until we decide that deciding between two parties is idiotic I want both sides to run moderates who aren’t dickheads.
It’s beyond sad that the fringes aren’t on the fringe anymore.
I would settle for a candidate who has a conservative fiscal policy (based mostly on free market), prioritizes defense, and acknowledges that pollution is a problem but wind and solar are not the answers to the energy problem (hint…nuclear is), and someone who respects everyone else as a human being (regardless of their “identity”). Also, can someone please fix healthcare so it doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg every year (thanks to both my wife and I having autoimmune disease).
However this candidate is probably rarer than unicorns now day.
One of the two parties will win and run the show, so my interest is always in two strong, principled parties with good candidates from both. I care deeply about the success of both parties.
I’m a patriot - as compared to, well, whatever you tribalists identify as.
And you think he is the only Republican who can do those things? By 2024 you may be back to handing all three branches to the other team.
At the very minimum I would think as a Christian you would be disgusted. Damn you guys go nuts over a baker but you have a guy who spits in the face of everything you guys claim to stand for and don’t want someone else? You could seriously have a Muslim in office right now who would be far closer to the teachings of Jesus than Trump.
This is why I give Sloth credit. We don’t see much the same but he was against Trump because of his faith from day 1.
You’ll note that pat mentioned Twitter behavior, because that isn’t “real.” He completely ignores the real behavior such as infidelity, grabbing pussies, watching teens change their clothes, lying, etc.
There is just no competition. It’s not like all conservatives are in lock step with Trump, it’s just a waste of time trying to challenge him at a time when he’s clearly got the edge.
It’s not much different than Obama 2012. To be even relevent to challenge the incumbent is way to high a mountain to climb.
Incumbents seldom get challenged for the presidential race. How many serious challenges to the incumbat from their own party have occurred in the last 50 years?
There have been haphazard attempts but nothing serious.
2024 is the longest he can last. Why waste the time and energy? Nobody has a shot for the nomination and everybody knows it.
Politics have not changed that much.
No I don’t think Trump is the only one who can do those things, but he is the only one doing them.
My choices are Trump, or the extreme AOC, fucked up ‘woke’ left. The left is very, very far left.
Agreed. The GOP is now the party of populism instead of their oldschool tenants. Nobody comes close to touching Trump’s ‘record’ on populism.
Has Bill Weld dropped out yet? Did he give up on challenging Trump?
Edit: retracted. Maybe he’s not even running. Coulda swore I saw him announce
Au contraire my friend. Trump has catapulted us into the age of social media politicians, while also demonstrating you don’t actually have to know anything about politics to win the White House.
Politics is not, and never will never be the same.
I can understand if you say you want centrists from either side of the aisle, which would somewhat keep us going down the path laid out from the Constitution.
But deeply care about both parties? How is that a possibility with diametrically opposing platforms? I like to see a close ball game, but want my team to win every time. But politics is not a ball game. I don’t want to see any Democrats win, as long as they march to a beat leading the US into some form government totalitarianism which provides life long nanny state and destroys every social more.
Your last statement is childish, just like @zecarlo was right above it.
