Better for the Party: "Many Voices" or "STFU"?

Trump is like a streaker running onto a playing field. Got it.

I saw this and I couldn’t stop laughing:

I know what the ‘buts’ and ‘how abouts’ destined to come. But this is funny… He creates what is supposed the biggest gaffe of his career that should surely undo him and… his approval goes up…

I am going to go out on a limb and say people are sick of the word ‘racist’ even if true, they are just sick of it…

I know you didn’t actually read any further than the headline. I know this because you never do.

Quite probably.

What exactly was the biggest gaffe?

So they shouldn’t cover the President when he says really stupid things? The idea that criticizing the country means you should leave or that you don’t love it isn’t right. America is and always has been a work in progress. How can we improve things if we think questioning anything means you should move?

I don’t think MLK was an American hater simply because he thought certain things need changed.

Again the easiest way to avoid it would simply be don’t tweet idiotic things when you’re the President. But we both know that won’t stop. Dudes an addict to drama and McDonald’s.

That’s not whay I said. But giving it 24/7 plays right into his hands.
He wanted exactly the attention he got. And it worked better than he expected.
So his approval rating isn’t as high as many before him, but the fact of the matter is he made a tweet. The media exploded with ‘racism’ and his approval rating increases.
That should tell you you the same thing or says to me, people are burnt out on racism charges.
And what should be a detrimental affect to Trump bumped him, it didn’t hurt him.

People are burnt out on race. That’s the bottom line. And telling the least liked people in America to go back where they came from means not shit. It’s like somebody riding on a bald spare tire. It’s a tired old worn out line.

The extrmeme left would have been fine to save it for the president, but they used ‘racism’ on everybody. From Trump supporters to even people in their own party.

They have succeeded in making racism a casualty of ‘the boy who cried wolf’. Now the people hate the town crier more than the wolf.

I predicted years ago this would happen. And now it has happened.

Now real victims of racism will not be heard, they will not have their day in court because of how loose the definition has become.

People who play the race card are weak. It’s the lowest card in the deck. Just cry babies.

It’s great you have such a high opinion of yourself that you assume everyone else thinks like you. You’re still wrong.

You do know Trump called those four women racists.

Regardless, he said it. If it makes you feel better, your tears taste good.

You must sit around hanging on his every word. Maybe you should find something better to do.

Approval ratings don’t happen in a vacuum and don’t mean that this helped him directly. You can find polling that show 68 percent found it offensive and unamerican as well. Trends matter more than short term results. Considering we know it wouldn’t do anything with his supporters and his most extreme haters any movement could be statistical noise.

I don’t think it means nearly as much as you seem to be looking into it anymore than if his approval rating went down and I said “see it’s killing him!”

It’s precisely because you accept it that is happening.

If evangelicals and Republicans had things they weren’t willing to completely bend on then they could primary him. They could say this doesn’t represent what we stand for. He hasn’t behaved like we thought he would and we are going a different route.

Lots of replacements exist. It’s not like no one on the right would run right now if he said he wasn’t coming back. But backbones are lacking on that side right now. Most are terrified to say an ill word of him let alone come out and say we can do better and this isn’t what the party wants to stand for.

I don’t even think it would be handing it to the Dems. You could run a human who says they are going to keep an economy humming, not suck off dictators, and not be a vile person. You’d probably catch some voters who won’t vote for him because of how he acts. Note his putrid approval ratings.

Even with an L the long term viability may be better off than four more years of having to defend Trumps record. Could be looking at a Republican Party that was toxic like it was in 06-08 and hand everything back over to the Dems

You know full well that “we had no choice or we have no choice now” is a pretty wimpy out. Plenty of opportunities to take him out before he even got the nomination.

A lot of people thought he might change after the election. Hell I thought he would. I believed him when he said he wouldn’t tweet and would release his tax returns. I didn’t realize lying and being non human were simply character traits of his. I wasn’t really familiar with him before the election as a person.

Which is one of the ironies lost in this “people are tired of race” argument. (NOT saying you are completely wrong @pat. The “crying Wolf” phenomenon is lessening the acts of true racism…which is alive, well and thriving in our beloved Republic).

Ah…the good old ad hominem fallacy
The default fallback for any internet poster who cannot postulate an argument strong enough to stand on its own.

@Mufasa and @zecarlo , you guys hit the point home. Racism is alive and well (I would argue on both ends of the political spectrum for different reasons) and the “crying wolf” and hoaxes like those perpetrated by Jussie Smollet make most rational folks less likely to believe truly racist acts.

I wish somebody would offer a primary challenge from the middle to moderate right - it would at the very least force the pool of Dems to shift back towards the middle to remain competitive. And let’s be honest, the majority of people fall somewhere in the middle of political spectrum.

I didn’t say what it means. Neither did I put a value on it. I simply illustrated that his approval went up. Which is better than both going down, or staying still. I, by no means intimate this is the key measure.
The ballot is the key measure.

There are more important things then sending Trump to finishing school walking with a book on his head while reciting French poetry. There is policy and the Supreme Court. Those are the things I care about the most. At longest Trump will be gone in 2024. If the court is set and legislation gets done I am happy and way less concerned about his twitter behavior.

@cyclonengineer:

“The Rhino” is dead in today’s Trumpublican Party.

It won’t happen.
