Agreed, not handling mental illness is a big issue and clearly contributes to homelessness. I find the subject of handling homeless citizens to be interesting from a policy perspective because of that challenge and how it doesn’t have a simple solution. My ears perk up as I am always interested when the subject comes up. I’m originally from CO and Boulder/Denver have a lot of issues with homeless and I’m not sure if I’ve ever really seen good progress made on the issue.
it’s the worst. it’s so deflating. It’s one of those things that comes with the freedoms we have (that our friend zeppelin pretends we don’t, lol.) If people have the freedom to refuse treatment, there really isn’t much to be done in our system.
And yea, we haven’t made much progress anywhere. I sort of don’t think we will.
That is the most frustrating part, because there is a lot of money, thought, and energy into that particular issue but it is still there. There are also a lot of cities that have made the problem worse with policy that was designed to help the situation, unintended consequences are always tricky.
I have posted plenty of evidence on here. Better than typing in lol’s and posting images of cartoons. Still waiting on the list of successful for profit healthcare systems. I won’t hold my breath as there aren’t any. If you want I can post the successful single-payer systems. Very easy to do as they are plentiful. But your ideology won’t allow you to admit this so better for you to just deny the evidence and continue to bury your head in the sand.
We don’t depending on your state you live in. Is medicinal marijuana legal in all 50 states?
Modern medicine seeks to mask symptoms not cure diseases.
With as much failure in our “modern” system is it any wonder people seek out other solutions as Big Pharma is mainly interested in profits not the patient, This system sucks!
A long time people have been using cannabis as medicine. Marijuana - The First Twelve Thousand Years
Are leeches being continually used in 1st world countries because medicinal marijuana is?
The country has an outrageous prescription drug problem. Which is falling in states that have legalized cannabis.
No, you haven’t. You post hot garbage and call it evidence.
I have literally compiled data for OECD countries to show you how healthcare costs compare. You post links to Alt Medicine Snake Oil Salesmen.
You didn’t define what that means because in your tiny brain it’s not possible.
See. You def want an honest conversation. Twat.
I don’t believe anything is successful if it requires government funding.
See how that works? Probably not…

Oh, you know my healthcare situation. Well, then, I stand corrected. Guess I’ll write the IRS a bigger check this year for all of those services I didn’t use.

An alternative view on homelessness. The Shockingly Simple, Surprisingly Cost-Effective Way to End Homelessness – Mother Jones
You didn’t define what that means because in your tiny brain it’s not possible.
What do you think it means?
I don’t believe anything is successful if it requires government funding.
See how that works? Probably not…
So even evidence has no effect on you.
continue to bury your head in the sand.
So you don’t even understand this.
So the bottom line is we don’t have freedom of choice if your state outlaws the choice. I don’t have children but you are giving me lots of practice.
Wow 12 diseases. How is that going with heart disease, cancer and diabetes?
Medical marijuana was lobbied against by Big Pharma and other industries. Why? Because it would cut into their profit and subsequently diminish their influence and power. And consequently make the public suffer.
Wow, what ethics! I wish I could be a part of a system that makes people suffer to enrich oneself. Sounds awesome.
Well, I figured you wouldn’t get it and I was right. Shocking.
Your trolling skills are diminishing.
Proof there’s a god.
That have killed hundreds of millions of people prior to their cure being found.
I just had an epiphany. You think scientists are wizards. You think their scrubs are magical and “R&D” is really code for crafting spells.
Stop doing drugs.
Have you forgotten how you were caught red-handed posting links to an alt-medicine salesman?
You have the choice to forego modern medicine practices. And seek a BAZILLION other options. Marijuana, WHICH I BELIEVE SHOULD BE LEGAL AND HAVE SAID SO, is like the only option that isn’t universally legal, and anyone who’s paying attention knows it will be within the next decade. Barely worth mentioning. That Pandora’s box is open.
ok, you clearly didn’t understand the analogy I was making. Let me break it down for you.
I’m not saying that leeches have a goddamn thing to do with Marijuana. You’re being dense. I’m saying that people, in our history, have pursued alternative medical solutions that don’t work. In large numbers. And then eventually abandoned the practice. The point of the analogy was to demonstrate through example to you that just because people choose to do something, doesn’t mean they’re right. People can be wrong. A lot.
I don’t know that this is really an alternative view on homelessness. I think that’s a pretty common view. But here’s the problem. The story is about Utah. In the story, they distribute supplies to 12 homeless people. 12. The problem here is the same problem we have when we compare government/educational/economic systems of small, homogenous European countries to the States. The comparisons fail. Not the same situation. The article acknowledges that there’s almost no homelessness in Utah in the first place. Never has been. Big cities have homeless problems. And the solution here of driving around in a fucking van handing out sleeping bags doesn’t work for all kinds of reasons.
This is like a folksy, feel-good ‘see, we CAN do it type of story’. Here’s the most accurate quote I read in the article, though: ‘So we could create more jobs, redistribute the wealth, improve education, socialize health carebasically redesign our political and economic systems to make sure everybody can afford a roof over their heads.’ I read this and nodded my head while also chuckling to myself. Like, of course. ‘redistribute wealth’, meaning give money to people who don’t have any, sure would help people afford housing. Duh. ‘Create jobs’? Sure. So… how? Shouldn’t we talk about that? Seems pretty important to go into the hows of these things. Oh but wait, that IS addressed: REDESIGN THE SYSTEM ENTIRELY. It’s an argument for socialism. So, great. A thing that won’t be happening in the US, ever. That’s not a solution.
I’ll stop bashing the article though. There is something else that is mentioned here that really has potential, and that is shifting our focus from ‘get people clean and sober first, then they’ll find jobs, then they’ll get housing’. It doesn’t take a genius to realize that will never work. You have to have a home to find a job. Period. The exceptions to that are so rare. If we really do want to attack the problem, then providing not just affordable, but temporarily FREE housing to homeless people is essential. What’s disheartening there is that as long as people like Bloomberg, and others in his position (read: governors and high level politicians) believe stupid things about homelessness, and want to talk about ‘personal responsibility and accountability’ and all that, nothing will change.
A lot of the above three are related to people’s choices…
It’s the billionaires fault. First they lobby politicians to allow them to place strategic ads for fast food. Then they make the food dirt cheap so it’s something only poor people can buy. Then once they’re fat and unhealthy they control big pharma. They know if they release the real drugs that will help people, then people will live longer. This is all about population control! If people live longer then there is less money for the Uber rich.
They do the same with high interest loans. It’s Denny a Sanford’s fault!

Lol MOD squad conspiracy!!!
Wait, if people live longer… can’t the billionaires make more evil profits off them? Aren’t people living longer than they used to 100 years ago? Oh no! Holes in the conspiracy theory! Must ignore!
No, 1 person/1 vote. The more people, the harder it is to control. They’ve found the equilibrium.
Please, you small brained ignorameous. People aren’t living longer, infant mortality has been reduced.
You wouldn’t know because you get your info from Fox News.
