Best Way to Transfer VHS Data to DVD

I know there are several ways to go about this but I don’t have a DVD recorder.

I happen to still have a VCR, DVD player, and PS3. I highly doubt any combination of these can transfer the footage.

I know there are services out that do this but I don’t want to spend a grip. I want to transfer 6 - 10 tapes.

Techies need apply!

Would you happen to have a digital camcorder? Most can be connected to a TV/DVD/VCR with component cables and record the signal (a cheap example being the Aiptek AHD).

Also, some of the newest digital cameras out there can also do this.

Just a cheap option. If not, you’ll need to get a video capture box.

You can get cheap ones like this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4088245&CatId=1428

Camcorder suggestion is a good one.

We had a few tapes we wanted to keep for posterity, so we hooked up the VCR to the camcorder with an S-Video cable, recorded the VHS to Digital8, and then transfered the DV video to the PC for safekeeping.

If you don’t have a camcorder, borrow one from a friend, or buy one from a store that has a “money back, no questions asked” policy.

Thanks ya’ll - I think I will try to use the video capture box.

I have a laptop that can burn DVDs but it will be the first time I am doing this…

Squiqz, will I be able to use an RCA cord (I think that is what they are called; the yellow, red, and white cord) or have to buy some other kind of cord?

Thanks for the replies!

My mom has been asking me to figure this out for her for some time. I don’t know why it never occured to me. Great info guys thanks.
