I watched Jason and the Argonauts again just the other day. Ray Harryhausen was a true master of building suspense and using comparatively limited effects to create a believable world.
It was a lost art until motion capture brought expression to CGI. Also love the Sinbad movies.

Probably my favorite. Definitely the most realistic and meaningful of all the ones posted. Hearst was finished in Deadwood after that.
