Best Movie Experience

Which trip to the theater was the best for you? Which movie? I’ve got mine, would like to know yours.

Was it on a first date, or a movie you didn’t think would be worth a shit but was awesome, or one that changed your frame of mind, or just a fucking cool time with good friends that set the bar for every other movie-going experience?

I’ll see if this thread takes off before I divulge

Got domed up while watching Transformers for the second time in the theaters. I have to say watching a crazy action movie, featuring Megan Fox, while getting blown is a pretty damn good movie experience.

Went and saw Fellowship of the Ring opening night, the energy in the theater was unlike i’ve ever experienced. People cried and yelled when the Uruk-hai who killed Boromir was decapitated

1.) Event Horizon: Went to see it with a couple of friends on a Friday night for lack of nothing better to do. Expectations were low. It wound up being one of the best horror movies of all time IMO.

2.) Double Dragon: Yes, this movie exists. ( Double Dragon (film) - Wikipedia )
Truly a reprehensible film of the lowest order. There is better character development and plot in a Bazooka Joe comic. But it was during this film that I first fingered a girl. Jackson Square theatres, downtown Hamilton, Ontario. Prior to this I had expected female genitalia to have the aroma of lilacs, early morning dew, and dreams. My world was turned upside down.

My aunt took my brother and I to see Robocop when I was 9. My aunt fucking rocks BTW, she took us to see Predator, Bill and Ted, Friday the 13th part 8, and some Mecha-robot movie in space that I can’t remember the name of. She even bought us Ninja Turtle toys and Punisher comics. I actually wish she was my real mom sometimes. JK, I love you mom.

Anyway…

My brother and I left the theater that afternoon changed forever. I was soaked in sweat by the time the credits rolled.

Robocop is the greatest movie of all time. That was a factual statement.

The fact that those Hollywood assholes are doing a remake is insulting to us all. It really is. I urge all of you to boycott this abomination and not see it. Don’t even download it illegally, as that would give more attention to it.

Seeing The Dark Knight in theater was pretty awesome…it’s hard to beat opening night of The Hangover in a completely packed theater, though. I don’t think I’ve laughed more in my life.

it’s sad that i’m going to get flamed for this, but: Avatar.

It was the first movie i’d ever seen in Imax 3D, thought it was beautiful. Cameron poured a lot of love into the character and world design.

Event Horizon was awesome, I couldn’t sleep for a couple of days after seeing that flick and I completely abandoned my dream of becoming an astronaut. OK, maybe only the first part of that is true.

It’s 1993. I’m in San Antonio with my folks to see the Paul McCartney concert. It’s a day or two before the show and we’re looking for something to do. My dad suggests we go see this movie he’s been reading about. It’s called “True Romance”. Being 11 at the time there’s no way I’m signing up for that trip. He starts to tell me that it’s an action story about a guy who runs a comic shop. Begrudgingly, I accept the invitation. 20 minutes into the movie and my bodys blinking function stopped working. I think I spent the entire movie wide eyed and mouth ajar. We ended up seeing it twice that weekend, and my dad and I kept talking about how awesome it was. It’s one of the few times we ever agreed on anything. It was one of his favorite movies, and it’s been my favorite ever since. And to top it off, the concert was awesome. That’s probably my all-time coolest movie experience.

Cool stories so far…

Here’s mine.

I was on a deployment with the Marines in 1997, stuck out in the outback of Australia at a small RAAF base. We were accustomed to evening entertainment of somehow getting a TV/VCR to watch movies, but it was to the point where sitting down to watch “Ace Ventura” or “Tommy Boy” or “Happy Gilmore” for the 30th time just didn’t cut it.

One Saturday during the trip a couple Aussie guys came by our quarters and invited us to see a film over by their area, said they had a couple new ones from the States if we were interested.

A bunch of us decided to go, and when we got there there was nothing but a patch of grass next to a building where people were already setting up in lawn chairs and blankets. There was a projector, and a huge canvas tarp strung up between a couple of trees. We settled in and had to wait till dark before the movie would start. A few of us brought some junk food and one of my Marines brought a flask and we all just sat around passing stuff around the crowd. Then the movie began.

It was Jurassic Park 2, Lost World. Not a great film, but not bad either. Especially seeing how we were all rocking an unauthorized buzz and sitting under the stars, feeling the breeze and sitting on cool grass with a bunch of other folks stuck in the OZ outback just like we were. Cool green grass is a rarity, and after doing all kinds of field work in the dust and the dry it was definitely appreciated. It felt antiquated, but in a good way, made me wonder if my grand-dad had watched films like this while on liberty during WWII, the whole thing.

It’s a blip, a quick two hour chunk of time, but it’s an event I’ll never forget and to this day it’s the movie experience everything else gets measured against.

At 13, I would take one day out of every month,go to the movies alone at about two, and stay until 10. If you are really into film, then you might also appreciate watching movies alone. You don’t have to worry about going for the hand swoop on a first date, or looking over at your friends and saying “oh shit man, that was crazy.” All you have to do is pay attention. I have dozens of memories, but ironically enough, the best times I have had at a movie theatre has been when I was alone. Sure, being with a girl is cool especially if you’re getting head, but you can get head at home or her house,I remember going to see Sideways when I was a freshman in highschool and I remember thinking, “This movie isn’t made for my demographic and yet still, it’s having a huge impact on me”. If you haven’t tried going to a movie alone yet Do IT!!!

At least he participated in the thread topic, Mr Sour.

lol

Took my son to see “Dodgeball” when it came out. He was probably a bit young for some of the humor, but the packed house was so overly reactionary, loud and crazy, the whole experience seemed like a hysterically funny party. We both left the theater with tears in our eyes from laughing so hard.

Oh, OK, let me redeem myself:

“Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors”

Lots of drinking, popcorn, hair metal soundtrack (Dokken), and blowjay. I can’t tell you one damn thing about the movie, though.

Iron Man 2 last week I was at the Showcase Deluxe theatre in Dedham Ma, they serve brew and a waiter comes to your seat to get you food!!! $22 for a ticket $5 off any food purchase so the ticket was $17 and the seats where big confortable and made of leather

  1. The Dark Knight - Totally took me by surprise. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was.

  2. Rambo 4 - The most awesome movie ever made. The action was so intense at times that I literally forgot to breathe.

  3. Hush - This was my first first date (we dated several different times) with my wife, and the first date I went on where I was able to drive.

  4. Jurassic Park - I think I was 10 or 11 at the time and this movie rocked my world. I remember being frozen in my seat the entire movie. I still dream of being a Tyrannosaurus Rex when I grow up.

  5. Sixth Sense at the drive-in with my girlfriend at the time (I was 17) - I didn’t see a minute of the movie. I borrowed my mom’s Subaru Outback for the night and we had blankets and pillows in the back. I had to drive around for an hour with the windows down after the night was over to get rid of the sex smell.

Much love. Such a kickass movie.

Mine was definitely Grindhouse, actually. It was opening night. There was a pretty good-sized crowd, but EVERYONE that was in there was all about the movie. Although I don’t typically like them, the entire crowd had a play-along vibe in the theatres. Coupling that with the awesome “previews” and two kickass movies by themselves, it was definitely the most memorable experience I’ve ever had.

Most of my movie memories come from taking my kids. Since final fantasy came out and I took all my kids (5) they were between the ages of 5 and 10. Nothing like that experience. Also the LOR series I would take the kids to see and it became an all day event. I miss those times. They are all brain damaged teenagers now. :frowning:
