I will be in the US for 4 weeks, mostly California and NYC. Which gym chain would you recommend that has gyms throughout the area and doesn’t prohibit squats and deadlifts. I thought of Gold’s Gym, but I’ve heard that they don’t allow Powerlifting exercises.
I prefer LA Fitness. They’re definitely in Cali, don’t know anything about NY gyms, but I assume they’re there also. Equipment is good, clean, and most are pretty cool about heavy lifting. It’s the only chain I’ve been to that doesn’t give a shit if I use chalk.
As far as chain gyms go Gold’s is about as good as it gets, as for not allowing Pl’ing it varies from gym to gym but, in general most Gold’s gyms that i have been to allow it.
Lifetime fitness is really really nice where im at, though it was only built maybe 5 years ago. Tons of machines and cardio equipment, some pretty nice hammer strength machines and leg press/squat press machines, tons of cables and bands, dumbbells up to 130. Only 2 power racks, 1 smith, 1 squat rack and chalk isn’t allowed but everything is very well kept and even during rush hours wait time isn’t bad due to so many machines.
The best chain gym in the NYC area is retro fitness. $20 a month and I’ve never seen one without a squat rack. Mine has 2 and an Olympic platform in a relatively small gym. They have dumbells up to 140 in mine as well.
LA fitness are nice, but it’s almost double the price because they have a bunch of stuff I wouldn’t use anyway. Saunas, swimming pools, etc.
