Best Guitar Solos

Off the top of my head:

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Both are amazing soli.

Living Color! Yeah!
There are a lot of guys I’ve never even heard of popping up. Broadening my musical horizons - very nice.
What about Buckethead?

jimi !
voodo chile and ssbanner.

The hallmark of a good solo is being able to sing it from memory. Some of these speed guitar and jazz guys are just show-offs.

“We Will Rock You” – Brian May on guitar.

That’s a guitar solo.

Can’t forget one of the most wiked ever,

Frank Zappa, et al.

one in particular- “Freindly Little Finger” from Zoot Allures.

I’ve always been a big Dick Dale fan. “Miserlou” is one of my favorites.

anything by John Frusciante

What jazz guys are you referring to?

Any fool can play a guitar. Jimi Hendrix was the only person I ever heard where the guitar actually played him.

Easily the greatest guitarist there ever was…

Watch this man in action and see what I mean. Enjoy…

“Hear my train a comin”

“Sgt. Peppers” “Wild Thing”

“Hey Joe”

He’s absolutly right!

When I or anyone play speed solos… that’s exactly what it’s for. A good guitar solo is played from the heart, not the fingers.

maybe i missed it, but can it be that noone mentioned steve vai so far? seen this guy live doing “for the love of god” - great!

If that’s the criteria - then the riff that run’s throughout Audioslave’s “Show Me How To Live” is my pick for one of the coolest solos.

Then - anything that Billy Gibbons plays.

You guys hit most of the greats already, but here’s the most unheard songs with the greatest solos:

Eddie Van Halen - VH - “Push Comes to Shove”
Skunk Baxter - Steely Dan - “Don’t Take me Alive”
Michael Schenker - UFO - “Born to Lose”
Frank Zappa - Bongo Fury - “Muffin Man”
Yngwie Malmsteen - Alcatrazz - “Bigfoot” and “Jet to Jet”
Steve Vai - Flex-able - “Call it Sleep”
Uli Jon Roth - Scorpions - “In Trance”, “Catch Your Train”
Ritchie Blackmore - Deep Purple - “Highway Star”
Glen Tipton/KK Downing - Judas Priest - “Tyrant”
Ronnie Montrose - Montrose - “Town without Pity”
Jeff Beck - There and Back - “The Final Peace”
Ray Manzanera - Solo - “The Big Dome”

Bass and Guitar soloing at the same time:
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson - “Freewill”
Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton - “Crossroads”

I like:

“It Makes Them Disappear”, “Domination” and “Cowboys From Hell” by Pantera.

and:

“Over the Mountain” and “Bark at the Moon” by Ozzy

and:

“Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr” by Trivium

That is all for now.

This is a little interesting:

The solo in free bird by lynard skynard - cannot be beaten. Im rocking out right now!

part 1

part 2

have patience - its worth it.

Wow, this is a tough one, always hard picking out one in particular.

Nuno Bettencourt’s solo in “Warheads” always leaves me smiling, along with everything else he has ever played.

Also memorable mentions must go to Ritchie Blackmore playing “Wring That Neck”.

Big fan of John Petrucci, Satch, Yngwie, Jimmy Page, and the amazing Paul Gilbert - “Bliss” being one of my favourites of his.
