Best Anime Ever Thread

just remembered an old favorite…

I highly recommend Magi.

Just finished watching the two, yes two, sequels to the 2012 Rurouni Kenshin film. I really enjoyed the first one so was nervous and hopeful about these. Again, if it matters, I never watched the original anime so take that into consideration about my view.

Kyoto Inferno was the first one. I had read somewhere that this one was action and the second sequel was more long winded. I have no idea what that person was talking about. If you watched the first one, there is a lot of character development much like any origin story. But the action sequences were well shot, they captured the character’s speed and agility and honestly make you want to swing a sword. Well, this sequel just gets it better. Without having to develop much in the way of characters, we are left with a whole lot more action. And I like that the action wasn’t the current Hollywood model of ultra tight shots with MTV seizure inducing editing. The camera is pulled back to enjoy all the glorious sword fun. You get to see the fighting, the skill. Plus, it seems like most of the actors are doing their own stunts, getting banged up, lit of fire, whatever.

Now, as I mentioned, I am not familiar with the manga or anime so some of the bad guys were a little more mysterious than would be to some of you. But really, didn’t matter that much. I did google up a few wiki entries to give me some more back story on a few of the bad guys but it wasn’t that necessary. Think of like going to a movie where you have read the book it’s based on while the person you go with has not. Both will enjoy, you will just enjoy with a bit more depth.

And of course, the movie ends on a cliffhanger…

So on to the second sequel, The Legend Ends. This was the one that was supposed to be boring with a few action scenes. Again, I don’t know what movie those critics saw but it sure as hell wasn’t this one. Action and action. Sure there are a few slow moments of actual story and acting but really, I think the last 45 minutes is one long fight scene after another. Great sets, good camera work, really a great trilogy of films.

Honestly, as someone who has watched several anime/manga live action adaptions, these films show you can get it right if you put some money and effort behind it. These will never be Hollywood level style and effect with not having a couple hundred million dollars to throw away but damn if they don’t do a great job. If they don’t make another, I could live with it but fingers crossed that I will get to see Kenshin swing his sword again.

And enough rambling, here are the trailers for all three.

No Game No Life… drops mic

I’m going to bring this back. I’m watching Parasyte finally after catching up on my hero academia and it is pretty rad thus far

My favorite of all time is Hunter X Hunter

Where my anime heads at?

Hunter x Hunter is definitely on my top 10 list. Havent watched Parasyte or my hero academia, will have to see if I can find them. Have you seen Sword Art Online?

Yeah, but they cry too much for me tbh. Haha the first part wasn’t terrible, but I hated the second part. The intro song is badass

Hunter X Hunter was very good.

Really enjoyed Attack on Titan.

Knights of Sedonia was decent.

Berserk is my favorite.

One Punch Man is wonderful.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo is weird but sometimes entertaining.

Berserk! hell yeah! So glad they came back last July with the new season 20 years after the original anime. Before Berserk, originally shown to me by an uncle when I was browsing his DVD collection in his home years ago (I asked him what it was and he just smiled and said take it home and watch a few episodes…I finished the 25 episodes in 3 days), I couldn’t get interested in ANY anime…just didn’t like the animation, the stories, etc. It just wasn’t something for me, and to be honest, they still really aren’t.

For me, Berserk has this special quality that makes it stand alone from the rest, but until you watch it or read the manga for yourself, you won’t understand what I’m talking about. I think a lot of T-Nation members would love it. But if you’re anything like I am/was, it’s HARD to PICK IT UP or WATCH IT AT FIRST , but you’ll thank yourself once you do. You will not want to stop reading or watching it.

I know hardcore anime fans always argue with me about Berserk being the best and they’re certainly entitled to their own opinion and I believe that not even the anime community considers Berserk to be in the top 5, but I’ve never met an anime fan that disagrees with me that Berserk can’t really be compared to any other anime…it truly stands alone. If you like watching revenge movies, enjoy watching evil get chopped in half with a gigantic sword with blood spewing everywhere, recurring themes of good vs. evil, self-sacrifice, perseverance, and stories containing a protagonist as manly as they come, you WILL LOVE THIS ANIME.

I didn’t understand the negative reviews after the new season in 2016 - I thought the CGI was fine, the shadowing well done FTMP, and stayed closer to the manga than the original 1997 anime did, which I appreciated because I didn’t have to go back and re-read certain parts for them to make sense.

Sure, it bounced back and forth but done so probably so that new viewers would be able to understand the story better, albeit incorrect from the material in the manga. But hell, you can’t please everyone…stay too close to the manga and only hardcore fans that have read it will understand new viewers will just think WTF am I watching? OR, try and explain EVERYTHING happening and then rearrange certain events in the story so a brand-new audience will understand things better, and have hardcore fans with their panties in a wad.

IMO, I felt they did a good job of landing in the middle of those 2 extremes; the fans that had read the story before got to see many important scenes animated EXACTLY how they were in the original manga (i.e., rape horse lol), and new viewers, though probably not aware, had certain scenes and episodes extended to help with character development.

It’s been 20 years since the original Berserk anime and simply having 2 new seasons out has made my year very memorable…yes, I love this story that much.

Can’t wait to see Guts get the Berserker armor this season. I’m freaking loving it!

Star Wars The Clone Wars is my favourite anime.

I really have a place for one punch deep in my heart. Read the manga and watched the first season probably 3 times through.

Knights of Sedonia is pretty good, but I can’t get into the animation. I like things that are drawn like they were back in the day with similar humor like Trigun, Bebop, and Sailor Moon.

I loved the original Berserk and liked the new shit, but for me it goes back to the animation really

I really love Gurren Lagaan and Durarara as well as Hellsing and Jojo’ Bizarre. I’m really trying to find a new one that I wanna see, but I’ve seen most everything that interests me on Netflix, Hulu, Anime Twist and CrunchyRoll.

Also, I liked it a lot until the cult following began and it kind of ruined it for me. Not trying to be hipster, but if too many people start saying it is the best anime ever, I start to like it less.

ONE PUNCH MAN!!! yeeehhhh.

Watched Blue Exorcist. Probably my most enjoyable TV show experience ever.

Started Seven Deadly Sins yesterday. First episode was interesting enough for me to want to delve further.

I like dragon ball gods, hajime no ippo, slum dunk, and fairy tail

I just saw this. Blue Exorcist was BAD ASS. Very well done and very enjoyable all the way through. How did you like Sins? I haven’t watched it, but though about it. Also, have you watched Castlevania yet? I’ve been meaning to, but wasn’t sure

Resurrection, again…

Finally watched Attack on Titan (seasons 1 & 2), it was fantastic.

spoilers
When Eren gets eaten by the Titan in season 1 I was like “Whaaaaaaaaaaat the FUCK just happened???” I wasn’t able to watch another episode for about a week so the whole time I’m like this can’t be right just how…

One Punch Man was also entertaining, but pretty freakin weird. Still, I’m looking forward to seasons 2.

Dragonball Super has been surprisingly good as well. This week is the big Vegeta/Jiren fight. Can’t wait to see how Toriyama fucks Vegeta over for the 87th time.
