I have to say this was easily one of the shittiest movies I have ever seen in my life.
By the time it was done the only thing that was running through my head was "what the fuck…??? "

Don’t worry there are plenty of high concept movies out there to keep you occupied.

Well for those who enjoyed Beowulf and Grendel there are two films in a similar genre coming out: Pathfinder and Outlander.
The concept for Pathfinder is quite feasible, viking child raised by natives fights evil vikings, but they went nuts with the over the top Gwar look for the thing so it’s already lost interest for me.
Outlander on the other hand, takes a sci-fi look at Beowulf and Grendel with both being from space and crashing on earth. This being the basis for the legend and poem in our history. The look, feel, language, etc. is very realistic however and I’m holding out hope for it to deliver.

Did you know that The 13th Warrior was based on Michael Crichton’s book “Eaters of the Dead”, which in turn was based on Beowulf?

Yep, good stuff. Just wish they had gotten 13th Warrior really “right” and a little less star vehicle. It should have been a movie that is now out in a 4 dvd special director’s edition some three and half hours long with a zillion extras, like Kingdom of Heaven. Still I watch it, but as this is an area of interest to me, “Vikings” that is, I guess I have a very high standard of excellence.
Being compared to 13th Warrior isnt a compliment in my opinion.
13th Warrior was pretty boring and very average. Obviously the vikings were cool and the look was very T but it didnt do anything to really hold the audience.
Gladiator it aint!
If either of these movies turn out to be good I will be very happy as truely great viking moves are far and few between.
I have The Vikings (Kirk Douglas) on DvD and that has some cool/funny parts in it.

I know it’s fashionable to rag on Antonio Banderas, but I thought he made a pretty decent Arab. (Although I don’t know any Arabs, I must admit.)
One part I thought was done exceptionally well was the scene showing how “Ibn” studied and learned how to speak a new language.
As far as the viking stuff–hey, at least they didn’t put horns on the helmets!
I saw it on the Canadian equivalent of HBO so I was glad I didn’t really pay for it. It’s OK, at best! There is nothing special about the movie except that it is an interesting story. It’s a B movie for sure.

They had the money, the cast and look “right” it just didn’t come out great though. I liked the language scene too. I think anyone who puts horns on vikings should be hung and stabbed with a spear…
Beowulf and Grendel is not bad, actually. Think what you want about the film, but the crew and actors busted their asses in some bad weather to do this movie, and for that alone I enjoyed it. Their efforts weren’t wasted.
Gerard Butler (yep, King Leonidas from 300) plays Beowulf in the movie.

Yeah, something that interests me about this Outlander film is that John Hurt and Ron Perlman are in it, as well as Canadian James Rogers: James Preston Rogers on IMDb: Movies, TV, Celebs, and more... - Photo Gallery - IMDb
