Here’s my two cents: I think that while Jewbacca has an excellent point about the dangers of 16 year old boys falling madly in love, that doesn’t apply to all of them (and certainly applies to people who aren’t 16 year old boys). This excludes it from what I believe is fair to apply as a universal standard.
HOWEVER, I believe it was Tex Ag who brought up the affect this event would have on a kid’s view of authority- this I’m pretty sure would be unavoidable.
Thus, I think that it’s wrong- because she was his teacher. I think that if she was just some gal and he banged her there’s no issue. It’s silly to pretend that at 18 kids suddenly turn from naive, impressionable young things into savvy and full-formed individuals. It’s a continuum, and a long one, and I can’t support laws that limit personal freedom because some people might get hurt if they aren’t careful.
However, I can’t see a scenario in which fucking one of your teachers doesn’t seriously inform your view of authority, whatever genders you are. Further, it’s totally unprofessional.
In short, I think you have a good point Jewbacca, but it ends up being correct in too broad a set of circumstances to be specifically applicable here.
I think Tex Ag hits the nail on the head pretty hard, and that’s my only moral issue with what happened.
