Benefits of Hill Sprints?

Make sure you build up a base of running first…hopefully you can run at a solid pace for 30 minutes without getting winded or tired.

who can run for 30 minutes without getting winded?

bump

about to run hill sprints where Walter Payton used to

in memory of his greatness

he’ll probably kick me in my ass from Heaven for using Vibrams though

What are your goals?

If it is soley to be an amazing powerlifter, then they probably won’t help you.

If it is to be NOV then they are probably a good idea but then this would really belong in the conditioning thread rather than the PL one.

He sure was great. Great player, great athlete, great work ethic… just a great man.

If your not in very good shape but still lift a good lot and start hill sprints you can forget about making any gains with your lifts.

For those of you who have added these in, how bad did it smash your other lifts during the adaptation period?

I live on a steep hill, in a neighborhood that’s nothing but steep hills, so I have no choice unless I drive somewhere to run. If my knees are bothering me I’ll find somewhere flat to run (or ride my mountain bike instead) because the hills really amplify any slight injury you may have.

I’ll find out… on the bench press, lol! I woke up today and my hip flexors are unbelievably sore, and I am maxing out on bench today… not the best move I guess, but we’ll see, haha.

I didn’t do hill sprints, I did mtn. biking on steep hills, but I added it in gradually. Started with 2 days a week, then 3, then 4 and stuck with each amount of times a week for 2-4 weeks before moving on and it had next to no effect on my lifts. To start it would take off 1-3 reps on my main lifts (using 5/3/1 program). But it goes back up pretty quick. Probably a month using the method I used.

^^Awesome. Thanks guys.

We here at WVU are “lucky” enough to have a hill called Law School Hill. Even walking up the damn thing sucks. The last 20 yards are steep as hell. At my gym we have a prowler and Ive been using that the past few weeks and it just isnt the same. So starting next week Im gona start working these hill sprints back in.

Hill Sprints are great! I usually do them twice a week while doing 5/3/1 the other 4 days(softball is on Sunday in the summer). I don’t think that they negatively affect your lower body lifts once you are used to them. They help me with fat loss and keeping my conditioning up. With my sport being slowpitch softball, I want to be the fastest outfielder in our league, thus hill sprints help accomplish that goal.
