Tire Flips 270kgs x2,x2,x1
Farmer’s Walk 60kgs x15m 2 way

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
All quasi conventional sumo deadlifts except top set done off a 0.5-1inch deficit except top set.

@MarkKO, thanks brother, I’ll see what I can do about it. Working on it as we speak.[/quote]

I just had a thought. Around March I tweaked something in my groin squatting. It wasn’t terrible, I don’t think as painful as what you’ve got but anyway…

Cutting to the chase, what fixed it was pause squatting at my normal depth with reasonably heavy weight. Doubles seemed to work well.

Press 32.5kgs x5
Press 40kgs x3

Squat 60kgs x5
Squat 72.5kgs x5
Squat 90kgs x3
Squat 100kgs x3
Squat 115kgs x3
Squat 130kgs x3

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Rested hella long between my squats sets, rest intervals of 4-6 minutes each. Hips felt pretty decent today, slight irritation at most. Presses were somewhat annoying, maybe it’s a mental thing. Having 1 plate on the bar and all, maybe I’m just tired. It’s fine. No biggie. Tomorrow, gon finish up my 3s for Bench and some tire flips/farmers and I should be ready for the competition this Saturday. Feeling… Eh, the competition is kinda strong.

@MarkKO, I actually did do some pause squats for fun on 9/12. They felt pretty ok, paused 100kgs for maybe 20-ish seconds. Squatted today too and things felt mostly ok.

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Paused bench for everything but the top set. Huge disparity between my touch and go and paused bench. Top set moved rather fast. Now I’ll rest till competition on the 19th.

Best of luck mate! Enjoy yourself.

@MarkKO
Thanks mate, I’ll post the results and vids of the competition on here.

SP-NYP Strongman Challenge

9 Lifters competed in the u85 category. Weighed in at 80kgs

Farmer’s Walk
60kgs per hand, 15m

3rd place. 2nd place and 1st place beat me by 1/2 seconds-ish respectively.

Tire Flips
180kgs Tire, 20m, 8 flips

2nd place, 1st place beat me by 0.5 seconds-ish

Deadlift
100kgs, 1 minute AMRAP

Got 5th out of 9 people. 3 way tie with 28 reps. 4th place got 25 reps. Got 23 reps with 2 no reps due to me not listening for the “down” command. Would’ve gotten 2nd if it weren’t for the 2 no reps. Oh and my glutes started cramping up right about the 30 second mark.

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Overall I would say it was a good experience though I’m fairly disappointed, I should’ve done better. No shame in losing to the 2 other guys who’ve been training hard along side me though. Googled 2 quotes about being a runner up (or in my case, 2nd runner up or as I like to call it, 2nd loser) and they describe my feels perfectly.

"It sucks to be the runner-up because I’ve been the runner-up for a long time in my career. I would get so close and then lose a huge movie and sometimes it’s one kid who beats you out for three different movies. It’s so frustrating at the time, but what’s so great is the lesson you take from that, which is, ‘I’ve got to get better.’ " - Jason Dohring

and

“In war there is no prize for runner-up.” - Lucius Annaeus Seneca

There is no rest for the weary and definitely no rest for the weak, time get back to working my ass off.

That’s good work mate! Don’t worry about where you placed. Fifth out of mine is fine, especially in the first few comps. At least now you have an actual benchmark to work from. Don’t get caught up with comparing yourself to others, just focus on beating your last performance so you always end up better than you were.

@MarkKO

Still placed 3rd overall haha. I was 5th out of 9 for the deadlift. Maybe I’m just competitive, never the less, there’s only one way to go from here and that’s up.

That’s a facepalm. I really need to pay more attention when I read things.

That’s even better! Remember the saying: you can win, or you can learn. Coming second or third is a best of both worlds scenario because you didn’t quite win, but you know you’re on the right track because you beat other people.

@MarkKO

That’s an interesting perspective to look at it, never thought of it that way. Always nice to get a new perspective.

Did some front squats for fun after that

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Didn’t feel like doing my BBB sets since I just finished my first strongman competition 2 days ago, I’d rather skip on the high rep stuff. I was only supposed to work up to a top single of 150kgs as stated in my program. Today is also the first time I used a belt with my Quasi Conventional Sumo Deadlift stance. Used to, worked up to heavy and heavier singles and I was quite close to getting that 180kgs. For some odd reason, I tried to hitch it up and well… It didn’t work out. At the end of the next cycle perhaps. So far my progress is on track.

120kgs x5

130kgs x3

150kgs x1

160kgs x1

170kgs x1

180kgs x1

Sorry for the spam of videos. Recorded everything so I figured I might as well upload all of them.

EDIT: I was clearly a bit more… Pissy/emotional during that day of lifting.

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
I thought it was 60kgs on the bar so I’d do a single or something since I was fucking around. Somehow I touched and go benched 90kgs.

It’s called getting stronger. Good work mate.

@MarkKO
Well hot damn, so thats what getting stronger feels like. Good to know haha. Oh and to everyone reading, Merry Christmas!

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Deadlifts done off a 0.5-1inch deficit except for the top set. Was supposed to do 5x5 of 120kgs squats. Did high bar olympic squats instead. Wanted to get 5x3 at least but nope, I could only get 4x3.

30/12/15

My Thoughts, Reflections, Personal Feedback:
Deadlifts done off a 0.5-1inch deficit. Felt my lower back feeling awfully strained so I decided to just give it a break.

Well hot damn. 2016 is here. I guess it’s time to set some REALISTIC goals. Did previously set goals for 2015 and lets just say I’m not even remotely close to any of them. As for what are they, I’m too embarrassed to say so that’s that. I have a ton of things on my mind but I know realistically, there’s only so many of them I can accomplish. I would like to add more strongman/olympic weightlifting based goals but having too many goals simply isn’t gonna work. With that in mind, here are my goals for 2016. Hopefully I get them this time.

Goals for 2016.
Squat 175kgs
Bench 110kgs
Deadlift 200kgs
Run 2.4km in <10 minutes (for army the following year)

Actually, now that I think of it. I’m gonna add in my secondary goals cause why not just lay it all out there. I do know where my priorities lie however.

Clean and Jerk 100kgs
Snatch 75kgs
Flip the 350kgs tire
60 push ups in a minute (for army the following year)
60 sit ups in a minute (for army the following year)
20 strict pull ups
Farmer Walk 100kgs per hand for 15-20m

OH and most importantly. Do all this without failing school(duh) and hopefully, excel.
