Just because we’re discussing the Litvinov workout, @simo74 nailed it that the 400m run has to be understood “in context”. Hell, the question arises on if this was being run in running shoes or WEIGHTLIFTING shoes. Imagine trying to do the latter
I heard that Johnson did the Bench Press prior to racing. Like heavy heavy single reps. The idea was to excite the CNS with an intense effort, without making the legs tired.
Thank you for sharing this. It reminded me of the article that I mentioned introduced me to the term contrast training
I am trying to get stronger but as I gain body fat I feel slower and unathletic. I have never been particularly explosive and the idea of contrast training seems like a good way to retain some athleticism and speed. When I keep kettlebell swings in my training when I gain weight I feel more athletic.
I appreciate the stationary bike is very different to sprinting but would have its own benefits I’m sure.
I’ve always wondered what kind of bike training speed cyclists do as they tend to have impressive quads.
Getting stronger but trying to stay athletic as I gain some bodyfat.
Did you always do the bike sprints first then?
Thank you for sharing this. People always talk about sprinters as power athletes and sometimes olympic weightlifters but throwers are I think are not appreciated enough. Geoff Capes is an all time strongman great and he stated as a thrower.
Alternated. 20 cal ride then leg ext, repeat.
I have found the best way to ‘stay’ athletic is to do athletic things in addition to lifting weights.
- Run a mile +
- Shoot hoops
- Pickleball
- kick a soccer ball around with kids/friends
- Do a jumps/throws workout
- etc.
Are all things to maintain athleticism.
Sadly Geoff Capes passed very recently. You’re right he was a phenomenal thrower before pursuing strongman - I believe he still holds the UK record for shot put
Google Chris Hoy.
Hadn’t seen that Vid from Juji and Joey before, that was a good watch. Deff shows how hard this type of training is.
