Begin...The Rest is Easy

Not feeling great, not terrible either, just feels like a cold with a bit extra on the achy side, so far.

2 rounds:
20 pronated PAs
10 shoulder dislocates
20 supinated PAs
25 face pulls
20 rope tricep pulldowns
15 pull throughs

2 rounds:
20 rope curls
10 goblet squats
15 straight arm pulldowns

My legs have recovered not at all so I decided to get some blood moving, only made it through one round of goblet squats and my right groin started screaming at me, will stretch that out tonight. Felt good to move a bit otherwise, will keep doing something like this while sick.

In better news, it’s a gorgeous day and the dog passed out with her ball in her mouth then did a bit of exploring by the river

How’ve you been feeling? Any better? Hopefully not worse…

Thanks for checking in, great to see you killing it on Pervertor!

I think I’m finally on the upswing.

Kind of plateaued around Sunday night and stayed pretty miserable through Tuesday afternoon when things started to relent a bit, woke up this morning without aches and with considerably less congestion than previous days. Took the dog for a short walk this morning and still had a decent amount of coughing in me and felt pretty fatigued from it but better than previous days. If things keep going this route I should be able to do some band stuff tonight/tomorrow and then, by Friday, be free of quarantine and able to move a bit more. Going to take it slow though, not trying to grind my way through any more of this than necessary.

Kettlebells came today, don’t have the lungs for swings yet but did a little work.

Concentration curls: 25 x 10, 30 x 8, 35 x 6
Lateral raises: 20 2x10, 25 x 10
Upright rows: 35, 40, 53 x 10
Rows: 30, 35, 40, 53 x 10
Goblet squat: 30, 35, 40, 53 x 10

Going to try and do something else kind of active tonight, low effort like yoga or stretching but enough to make me breath a little. My lungs did not like the goblet squats, on the road to recovery but it’s going to take another few days, if not longer. Today is the last day of quarantine, which is great because I’m about ready to lose my mind.

Did 10 min full-body stretch

Woke up feeling a lot better this morning, still quite a ways from recovered but I’m ibuprofen and mucinex free so far today.

SA KB press: 25, 30, 35, 40 x 10
KB Goblet squats: 25, 30, 35 x 10, 40 5 x 10
KB Swings: 40 2 x 20, 2 x 30

Going to get something else in today, not sure what it will be but it won’t be anything particularly hard. KB squats and swings got me breathing harder than I wanted but not necessarily harder than expected given my current state. Going to try to lay out some goals for May, to keep myself honest.

  • 10k swing challenge
  • Min 50 goblet squats per day
  • Min 10 rides (peloton or outdoor)
  • Min 10 core sessions
  • Min 10k steps (average)

Probably will start the swing challenge early-mid next week, not quite ready for it yet. Going to play around with the goblet squats, the ones I did today were spread throughout the day with no timing component, I’ll probably keep that around for the first week then start adding intensity, reducing time, or reducing number of sets.

Glad you’re on the mend! Sounds like it’s beating you up but not enough to keep you from being active. Your training plan sounds interesting. Look forward to seeing how it works out for you.

It hasn’t completely floored me. The peak sickness wasn’t that bad it was just an annoyingly high floor for a few days. My step count, which was looking fantastic took a beating but I’ll still average 10k plus for the month which was the initial goal.

lol It’s just a hodgepodge of things, honestly. I’m annoyed I didn’t get to finish my FTP-based peloton program so I’m going to work back to that but the rest is just things I want to do or things I feel like I should be doing. If I’m not completely wrecked by the swings I’ll probably do a few hypertrophy-esque days at the gym once I’m a little further away from potentially shedding the virus on a bunch of gym goers.

Superset, 3 rounds:
SA KB press: 40 x 10
KB pullover: 40 x 10
Lying leg raises: 10

Triceps are smoked, pretty surprised by that but it’s a good thing, I suppose. Got over 10k steps and definitely feel it more than normal, more of the same tomorrow.

Got a couple mile hike in early this afternoon and a few good dog walks, definitely more strenuous than it would’ve been under normal circumstances. Just under 15k steps for the day. Laid down after the hike and decided that I’d do a heavy bench session.

Shoulder warmup
Axle bench: 120 x 10, 210 2 x 5, 260 x 3, 300 x 1, 350 x 1, 380 x 1, 380 x 2 (slingshot), 210 x 24
Deficit deads 2: 135 3x5

Will probably get another walk in and maybe some KB stuff, tomorrow starts the plan laid above. My heart is still pounding like 4 min after the 210 x 24 set, clearly not where my conditioning was or where it needs to be. Still plan on starting the KB program tomorrow or Monday, at the latest. Should be “fun”. Plan on doing 1 armed KB press, weighted bench dips, goblet squats, and chins. Will be about as close as I can get to the prescribed layout

Grabbed a bagel and then took a walk on trail that will be by our new rental, come August, super excited about the new location. Decided 10k swings were starting today.

500 swings + Press @ 31:08
All rounds were this with a 24 kg bell:
10 swings
1 KB push press
15 swings
2 PP
25 swings
3 PP
50 swings

Round 2 I tried to go no rest into the 50 swings and failed broke them up as 10/40, Round 3 put it down after 30 then did 20 more. Round 5, paused but held the bell after 25 and then finished without putting it down.

Forearms, hands, and back are all beat. That was much more grueling than expected but the time flew by, really happy with my effort and as my conditioning comes back I imagine I’ll be able to improve on that time a decent amount. Got a few more walks, 20 goblet squats, and some core work left today.

Forgot to add, starting the program at a morning weight of 282.8

Rounded out the day, time to cook and take it easy.

Goblet squats: 40 5 x 10
5 min core workout
3 mile walking

At 11k+ steps, will probably accumulate 1-2k more before bed. Going to grill some burgers and chicken that is marinating while the weather is still nice (it’s been a beautiful 3 day stretch). Goblet squats were throughout the morning, like adding them in when I walk by, can feel them a bit but not really taxing recovery. My upper abs were cramping by about the 1.5 minute mark of the core workout, got some liquids in but pushing pretty hard for still being in the Covid-recovery phase.

Day 2

Swings and goblet squats: 28:57

10/15/25 swings with 2/3/5 goblet squats
50 swings

Got all sets of 50 swings unbroken although it did about break me. Woke up this morning to sore forearms and a back someone seemed to have been punching the whole night. Lower left back felt a bit weird during a few sets, really tried to focus on hinging, not squatting. Other than that it was mostly just grip and back soreness, with a little surprise abdominal soreness.

Conditioning felt it harder today than yesterday, lost probably 30-45 seconds going and getting Kleenex and blowing my nose, should be an easy win when the congestion clears up.

Good news is with my 5 warmup swings and goblet squats I’m over my goal of 50 goblet squats a day. Going to do a 20-30 min peloton this afternoon and go for a long walk

3+ mile walk
20 min peloton @ 161 watts

Walk was in a light drizzle but the temperature was lovely, spring is finally coming, the ratio of grey trees to green trees is about 1:1. Peloton was rough, legs feeling the goblet squats a little bit my cardio is still definitely recovering, much more effort than it should’ve been to get that number.

Tomorrow will be goblet squats, stretching/yoga, and probably another short, lower intensity peloton ride.

Had shakshuka tonight for the first time, delicious, going to put this in the weekend breakfast rotation

Woke up at like 3:45 to pee, never went back to sleep, never really woke up. Headache got the better of some plans but still got the minimum done.

12k+ steps
Goblet squats: 40 2x15, 1x20
Pushups: 2x25

Hopefully get some sleep before day 3 of swings.

Slept much better, still a slight headache and a decent amount of congestion but that cleared up with some medication and time.

Day 3, Swings and Chins: 28:28

10/15/25 swings with 1/2/3 chins
50 swings

Chins were a bit harder for me than squats and took more time to do but it was about 10 degrees colder in my workout room today, which definitely helped. The 80 degree weather next week is going to make this much tougher. I’m planning on running this 5x a week but am not sure if I want:
1/1/0/1/1/1/0 or 1/1/0/1/1/0/1

I’m leaning toward the former but have yet to decide, also planning on subbing push press in for bench dips tomorrow, just to make setup less annoying.

Abs/peloton/goblet squats on deck for the rest of the day.

Had a long meeting but managed to sneak in all of my work for the day.

5 min ab class
Goblet squats: 40 1x20, 2x15
30 min low impact peloton @ 138 Watts

5 Minutes of abs doesn’t seem like a lot but it leaves me hurting. Not much to report, legs are pretty tired right now and the Peloton was a bit of a slog but nothing too surprising there. My appetite has been through the roof since I started the swings, probably going to have to re-up on food sooner than I thought.

Tomorrow will just be swings, goblet squats, and a lot of walking with hunden.

Had to go to the car dealership a few times today, power went out in the shop right before my car was going to go on the lift, came back on 4 hours later. Very glad I didn’t get stuck there. Ruined my workday but I’m not super disappointed about that. Gut has been off today too, ate an absolute ton yesterday which probably helps explain it.

Goblet squats: 53 x 15, 40 x 20,15
11.5k steps (probably 1-2k more)

Day 4, Swings + push press: 26:02 (PR)

Got all 50 each time, kept the same rep pattern as the first time I did press. Knocked over 5 minutes off already and this felt easier than the first one, think Covid is finally almost all the way out of me. Part of the improvement was putting the bell down less, only on cluster 4 did I put it down between the first 3 sets. Otherwise it was 10/15/25 down 50 down. Grip was starting to really have to work the last few clusters.

Excited about seeing what I can do without the extra lift in there, think I’ll just get that out of the way and do it tomorrow. Should have sub 25, if my grip holds up.

The worst part of this is definitely the hands, been putting on more lotion than normal but they’re still getting eaten up. Going to have to harden up over the next few weeks

Swings + nothing: 20:18
Goblet squats: 40 22,14,14
11k steps

Just finished the swings, flat on my back. That was by far the worst round, I thought it would be easier but I kept finding excuses not to take breaks. My whole back hurts, just from laying on it. The lower left back (where I have some issues) felt like it was on fire for the last 30%, it doesn’t feel like an injury and takes away from the grip pain, so silver linings or something like that.

Might do a hike with a neighbor tomorrow, like 41% of me wants to hit the gym but I’ll see how the hike plays out.
