Begin...The Rest is Easy

If I also attended most shows for artists I only barely liked, I would be very tired and poor!

I have a couple domestic trips planned for later this year, two of which are for live music. So, I am pretty excited.

Awesome! I think I have like 2 festivals left in me, for the rest of my life, maybe.

To be fair, I saw both of them at a festival which isn’t a great representation! I enjoyed FJM’s music more live than I do recorded but he was an (charismatic) asshat on stage. Music is expensive now, at least around here.

Oh yeah, shows are in most cases miles ahead of festivals.

Little hodgepodge conditioningesque workout today.

6 min warmup walk
Prowler: 3 plates, 200’ push 100’ pull
Chins: 1 x 7
Cleans: bar x 10, 95 x.5 ,135 2 x 5, 185 x 3, 205 2 x 1, 235 x 1, 255 0 x 2
3 rounds:
Prowler: 150’ push/150’ pull
KB swings: 50
1 min rest

Used 4 plates on the prowler the first 2 rounds, 5 plates the last. 50lb bell for the swings. Whole back is wrecked, I mean it was before I started this workout but now its extra wrecked. Going to be good to give the body a few days of hiking and healing.

I lost confidence midway through cleans, I’m 100% sure I have enough strength to do these I just have 0 technique, which is to be expected given my lack of practice. Plan is to get out of bed early and cycle before departing, I have a ton to do before then though so we’ll see if I pull it off.

That last vid is of the first failure, the second one was much closer, I just didn’t get under it. Also, what terrible positioning lol

I’ve officially talked myself into pervertor, anchor. Thinking I’ll start it next Saturday, the only question is on weights. I can either keep going with my current weights (based these off of ~90%), recalculate to 85% (JW’s suggestion), or just do the same weights I did this week again.

Think I’ll probably go for the last option, which is a compromise, but if anyone has input I’m happy to hear it.

Got back yesterday evening, spent 10+ hours in the car, plan for today was do a peloton and start pervertor tomorrow, naturally I was too anxious and started it today.

10 min walk, Shoulder warmup, Jumps, hip flexor stretch, goblet squats, good mornings
Duffalo squat: bar x 10, 145 x 10, 235 x 5, 3, 285 x 5, 330 x 3, 370 x 7, 415 x 1, 285 x 20 (pr)
Seated dip: 90 x 20, 180 2 x 15
DB Row: 65 x 10, 80 x 10, 95 x 20 (straps), 110 x 10

So, this was a bad idea. My gut is not in a good place (never is after traveling), my hips and legs felt like they were made of glass but I got the majority of the work done. 370 x 7 is 1 rep short of tying a PR, I could’ve got there if I needed but form was slipping (my hips were shifting and I was a bit high). Realized at that point I was going to be in for a battle on the widowmaker so I did one joker rep at a weight I knew I had to give me confidence, it didn’t really do that because it was sticky and slow but it moved fine considering I didn’t give myself any rest before it. Widowmaker just sucked, got 5 reps in to start then everything after was a double at best between breaths. Around rep 10 I looked at myself and laughed at the predicament I was in then kept going, good for a 30lb PR. Probably could’ve started this anchor a bit lighter than I did but it’s only 3 weeks, so we’re going to keep going hard.

I owe single leg work, really slacking here, and it shows in the hip shift (my left hip works 34x better with single leg work in my routine) and conditioning (45 min peloton tonight). Depending on the weather I’ll either hit push press tomorrow or Sunday.

@davemccright @SvenG first workout in the books. If anyone besides those 2 wants to get in on a quick pervertor (anchor) we’d be happy to have you.

I hadn’t done a squat widowmaker in months. Forgot how miserable yet fulfilling those things are. 3 more to go.

45 min peloton power zone max effort @ 169 watts

Nice little PR there, my legs have a deep hurt in them at the moment, going to will myself to do single leg work, no matter how trivial. This is week 4 of 5 (missed last ride of week 3) and the hardest week on the program, not nice to come back to on leg day but i bought like 6lbs of ground beef and chicken thighs so I’m going to recover.

Plan for the rest of the week:
Saturday: prowler/weighted vest + press
Sunday: 45 peloton
Monday: deadlift + barbell complex/weighted vest
Tuesday: 60 peloton
Wednesday: bench + 45 peloton

Going to be a lot of eating until this cycling program is through, excited to test my FTP then do something that destroys my legs a bit less or at least in a different fashion

Nice PRs, especially given the circumstances! Hope your time away was relaxing.

Thank you! It was fantastic, only wish it was longer. Portland is a very cool city, if it wasn’t so cold/on the east coast I’d consider it as long-term alternative.

Acadia is beautiful too, got a perfect day (also a terrible one) and about 12 miles of hiking/walking done in the park. Definitely recommend if you happen to be anywhere nearby.

Splurged on dinner in Portland, too!

Got in some nominal single leg work to round out the day.

BSS: 1 x 10
Single leg bridges: 2x20

Thanks man! First time I’ve hit bodyweight for 20 on squats which is a nice little victory as a bigger dude.

Welp, took a nice walk this morning and grabbed a bagel then took a precautionary Covid test after, just in case. Positive. Probably going to throw a wrench into training for a minute but we’ll see how it goes, not going to continue pervertor while positive, as it requires me to attend the gym.

Meant to say: I love this attitude! So it pains me even more to then read this:

I’m super-bummed for you, man. Hope it comes and goes quickly… Meanwhile, @davemccright and I will have all the fun.

Pevertor will be there when you’re ready.

Thanks, little bummed myself if I’m being honest. Excited to watch y’all kill it.

Feel mediocre (headache, congestion, etc) but not too bad, I’m getting another test tomorrow to be sure but if I feel this good tomorrow I’ll probably just bench at home, wait a day or two then deadlift at home to push overhead work off as long as possible, which I can’t do at home.

If I deteriorate I’ll just try to keep active and move the 10k swing challenge up a few weeks, just ordered some bells from Titan.

Darn, hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about the cov dude. Hope it stays mild for you

@Bagsy @boilerman thanks y’all.

Still mild but seemingly slowly progressing, got almost 15k steps today and am planning on tuning up the bike and taking it out for a spin tomorrow, just to do something. Might take the dog to the river too.

Not ideal but I’ll “just keep swimming”
