First ride since my FTP test like 10 days ago, forgot I had puppy training yesterday so didn’t do one then. Will take another pretty long walk before the sun goes down then do some stretching/core work tonight. My legs are sore as hell from the squats/single leg work, with KB swings crushing the back side too, cardio is feeling pretty solid. Hitting deads tomorrow, with some conditioning tacked on. Hopefully the snow will melt by this weekend and the weight vest will become a regular contributor.
Watching a friend’s dog starting tonight until Tuesday, should be interesting to see how that goes with Winifred.
Forgot to add, I weighed myself in the morning for the first time since I returned. 286.6, which essentially means negligible amounts of change, hooray.
Didn’t do any extra work last night, winifred is a fighter and was (playfully) attacking Jake from the moment he got in the door. Wasn’t about to lay on the floor with 80lbs of teeth, elbows and claws flying about.
DL
20 min treadmill (6 min running @ 5.8)
Pull-ups: 1x10, 1x5
Jumps 4x5
DL: 135 x 5, 225 x 5, 285 x 5, 335 x 5, 375 x 5, 285 5x5
KB rows: 50 3x12
KB press: 50 3x12
Pulldown: 70 (per side) x 10, 95 x 10, 120 x 10
Dips: bw x 10, bw - 52 3 x 10
Some dumb core machine x a bunch
Lifting felt great, running felt solid, KB press was rough on the core but fine on the shoulders. Dips were odd to start but felt better as I got used to the movement again. Was a pretty long session, was trying to process a bunch so just kept lifting.
Looked at 3 houses this morning, one was pretty cheap, old and poorly designed. Had a solid yard but is probably not going to happen. One was nice, close, and with a great yard but no fence and will likely sell 30-50k above our (very haphazardly put together) budget. Third one was pretty nice, has 2 acres, a 2 car garage and a place to put all my lifting stuff plus more. Location is a bit far though, would be 20 min for my partner to drive each way, currently 5 and it would need some fencing. Nothing close to decided, we’re going to crunch some numbers and drive back to the far house to see how we feel, might just stay renting, it will probably be a better economic choice.
20 min peloton, technique work
3x10 assisted pull-ups
Probably should’ve done more today but didn’t, been stressed, we might be getting a house. Offer was lower than the realtor thinks will win but we put one in anyway. It’s closer to the top of our budget than ideal but we’ve been conservative for the last year so we’ll be fine.
I did some single leg pedaling on the peloton as part of the workout, my pedal strokes are not good lol. Fun to get a short glance into what actually makes for decent power transfer in cycling.
Bench tomorrow, since it’s easy I might try and sneak to the gym and do it on the barbell, just as a way to get out of the house
Things i’ve learned in the last 72 hours: Buying a house is stressful, sleeping in bed with a decent size dog is not particularly restful. Stomach is a bit off but not terrible, weight was 285.8, lowest in probably 1.5 years (maybe a year?).
Shoulder warmup, 25 jumping jacks (paused at 8 because borrowed dog jumped up and scratched my back, excitedly)
Face pulls: 2 x 25
Axle bench: 120 x 10, 170 x 5, 220 x 5, 260 x 5, 290 x 5, 220 1x5, 2x10
BB row: 145 4 x 15 (2 sup/2 pronated)
Straight arm pulldowns: 2x15
Tri single arm pulldown: 2x15
Tri overhead: 1x25
Really didn’t feel like lifting today, part stress, part gut, part work, part who the hells knows what. It ended up being one of those 3-times-a-year days where I feel just as shitty leaving the lifting session as I do going into it. Oh well, house offer will be accepted/rejected tonight. Going to try and get more good food in me tonight, very odd for me to be dropping weight without putting a ton of effort into it or being hungry all of the time.
Did the BB rows between sets of bench and supersetted them with either of the pulldowns. Didn’t want to do 5x5 so just shortened it into 3 sets. Could’ve done it in 2 but wasn’t feeling quite that angsty.
Yes, and as I read about your stress levels I thought about how this is the least stressful part.
Each step is going to bring a new set of what-ifs. Inspection, appraisal, going through underwriting, waiting for clear to close, then trying to go to sleep, closing day eve.
If it’s any consolation your agent is just as stressed/anxious as you are. They are playing calm for your benefit.
Thanks! Not necessarily great news on the stress front but good to know, our target close for this property is June 1, so it would be awhile. Fwiw, our realtor is very nice, competent and available definitely making the process easier on us.
Me neither and it’s becoming apparent very rapidly.
House went for more than 20% over asking, our bid was ~5% over so we weren’t optimistic but it’s wild that the market is still this hot. Will probably try for a few more weeks then commit to renting if nothing shows up. Not the end of the world.
Did 10 min of abs, rotated Russian twists, scissor kicks, and high plank. Was bookended by forearm planks.
Going to take the dog on a walk then go to the gym and do something. Either conditioning or maybe the 30 min press challenge. Stomach is worse today not sure why but it’s a drain. Woke at 284.4 this morning, didn’t eat enough yesterday, got more in me this morning than I normally do and will eat a big lunch. Anyways down 10lbs in just over 5 weeks is cool, especially without putting a concerted effort in.
Does anyone have wrist wraps they love? My EliteFTS ones are dying, the velcro on the left one is barely holding on and has come unwrapped on a few sets recently which isn’t a huge deal but I don’t want that happening on near max efforts. I’ve liked the ones I have, I think they are the “normal” ones, could maybe get a bit stiffer but not a requirement.
Will update this later with my conditioning efforts, Squats for 1s week will start tomorrow.
Did 185 and cleaned each set, total of 16 cleans for the main work and 83 reps. Had a stretch goal of 100 but by set 3 I knew that was going to be nearly impossible. Cleaning 185 is harder than it should be and my push press form felt good for about 20 of the 83 reps, very pleased with the effort though. Might try it again in a month or two, not sure how I’d progress these but there are plenty of ways
This one session has me considering putting push presses in as my supplemental lift on future cycles of 5/3/1. I don’t really have a specific OHP goal so I’m okay with limited progression here.
Speaking of, I think I’ll run another cycle of 5s PRO FSL upon returning from my trip (leave next Thursday) to give me some more time to get ready for my anchor. Figure I might have time to test a push press max before I leave so I’ll have an appropriate number for my FSL work. Have no idea where my max is, imagine 250+ but I’ll probably do a 2-3 rep test and plug that in.
Ate a ton post workout, should be ready to hit this week hard assuming my guts bounce back a bit.
Have a couple meetings today so got in around 10am, a few hours earlier than normal. Gym was pretty dead which was great, although the snowstorm might be impacting attendance.
Pullups: 1x8, 1x4
Goblet squats, shoulder warmup, hip flexor stretch, good mornings
Jumps 3 x 5
KB swings: 25 3 x10
Duffalo squat: 145 x 10, 235 x 5, 285 x 3, 300 x 5, 340 x 5, 380 x 5 (oof), 300 5 x 5
Tri pulldown: 60 2 x 20
ss w/ Tri overhead: 6 2 x 15
Multibar curls: bar (43lbs) x 20, 63 x 18, 83 x 12
Assistance work was supersetted with FSL work, like normal. Really enjoy that way of lifting, keeps things moving, gets me sweating and doesn’t really detract from the important work.
My whole torso is absolutely fried from the push presses yesterday, especially my back. Took a long time to get moving today and bracing was a problem on the heavier sets, once again my FSL work felt stronger than my main work. I either need to live with this reality or allot more time to warming up. Plan is to do single leg work and a peloton tonight. Already put down a bunch of quality food today (and a bit of not-so-quality food), this is going to be a gainz week.
10 min incline walk
Shoulder warmup
Jumps: 4 x 5 (low + med box, which is slightly higher than the high box i’ve been using)
OHP: bar x 10, 95 x 5, 135 x 5, 160 x 5, 185 x 5, 205 x 5, 160 5 x 5
NG Chins: 3 x 6
KB Swings: 50 2 x 15
Tbar row (wide handles): 75 3 x 12
Had a surprise gap in my day around 11 so went in when I could, hadn’t eaten (water + coffee + coffee/cream), got the work done pretty quickly. Lack of food had no noticeable impact, just getting lunch in now and I’m at 10k steps. Still suffering the effects of the 30 min press session, mostly in the mid back which limits bracing ability surprisingly my shoulders feel mostly fine from that. Happy to get 205 x 5 given the circumstances, especially considering both of my quads cramped on my 4th rep which turned the final rep into a painful grind. FSL moved well.
Plan is to do some bodyweight or vest squats, some pushups, and some core work to round out the day.
Dreading this, heavy deadlifts for reps are the opposite of fun.
Jumps 2x5
Jumping jacks 2x25
Shoulder warmup, hip stretches
DL: 145 x 5, 225 x 5, 315x2, 330 x 5, 375 x 5, 420 x 5, 330 5x5
Tri pulldown: 55 total
Tri overhead: 40
Facepulls: 75
Supinated pulls parts (thanks @FlatsFarmer): 50
Axle poundstones: 140
Deadlifts felt pretty rough but I’m much more confident in my setup, still needs a bit of work and still go through a few cues before pulling but I’m getting there. Top set felt slow and ugly but actually looks pretty decent, glad I filmed it. Not much else of note, think that’s a poundstone PR, those thing suck. Also squeezed into the 4th belt hole for my top deadlift set, means I’m leaner than I’ve been in almost 4 years.
Put an offer in on another house, it’s not perfect but my weight setup has amazing potential, so I’m excited for that and a big yard
