Mmmm pancakes.

Surly Brewing Co. isn’t distributed to SC. So when my sister was there recently…she sent me some Furious and Coffee Bender.

First time I attempted this shit I puked halfway through the can. It was my first drink of the day and I wasn’t hungover.

Cider is better!

Heineken in the summer. Guinness in the winter.

Wow with all the TV and films over here i was under the impression that everyone in the USA drank Bud light or corona - Glad to say i am pleasantly surprised by this thread.

Guinness and second the Shiner bock of many flavors. What sucks is even in Texas it gets charged as an Import, WTF.

If you like dark/amber, this Trappist is one of the best I’ve had. Rivals Guiness…a bold statement, I know

Newcastle Brown Ale is liquid bliss

The US is arguably the best brewing nation on Earth now, in terms of experimentation, being prolific and overall quality IMO (the argument for countries like Belgium and Germany being the best is that they’ve found recipes which work and stick with them for hundreds of years, which is also valid). As a Canadian it was hard for me to admit this (we Canucks are really smug about our “Canadian Beer” and how good it is) but the US absolutely blows us out of the water, even when you account for the population difference.

Japan is getting pretty good too. Check these guys out (this is the import site for HK and China)

I’m not much of a beer connoisseur, but I gotta agree with Shiner Bock.

I worked with a guy who grew up outside of Ottawa. Every time he went home to visit, he’d bring back Sleeman’s. I thought that wasn’t bad at all!

It’s alright. A lot of people take issue with the clear bottles, and also the fact that it’s priced as a premium beer in Canada. 24 Sleeman is something like 40 dollars.

From a recent trip to Denmark. Local micro.

Magic Hat #9 is a favorite. Are those a couple of Smutty Nose bottles?

Also…your “beer fridge” is not a true beer fridge my friend…nothing else is allowed to be in the fridge, but beer…

In the meantime I’ll just keep doing deadlifts

Oh, yeah— FUCK Sam Adams.

Gotta respectfully disagree on this.

Sam Adams Boston Lager is a solid beer, at least compared to the majority of what you find in most stores. It also serves as a “gateway beer” from the world of Coors et al. into the better beers.

I’m a huge fan of Jim Koch, the man who runs Sam Adams. He loves beer, brews some pretty good seasonals, and holds contests every year for homebrewers (the winners of which Sam Adams puts into production for a few months).

Koch and Garrett Oliver (Brooklyn Beer) are two of the best spokesmen “good beer” has IMO…[/quote]

I like your point on ‘gateway’ beer and your thoughts on Koch have given me pause in my hatred of him…something like 90% of all ‘craft’ beers bought in the states are now Sam Adams…I only drink them when there’s nothing else but miller, et al available…my turning point with them actually came back around 1989 when they switched up the Patriot on the label from the dood with the musket that was definitely not smiling to the dood sitting at the table that was smiling…also, those gay radio commercials they did where he said, “I’m Jim Koch” and he sounded gayer than Landon Donovan.

Until then I’ll just keep doing deadlifts

This is a picture my wife took last night after we poured a couple of glasses of Black and Blue. My wife’s a photographer…so I have a lot of beer pics.

Black and Blue is a Belgian-style Golden Ale fermented with blackberries and blueberries. It’s dosed with real, pureed blackberries and blueberries which allow the fruit flavors and aromas to be woven into the actual taste of the beer.

I’m liking you more and more my friend. The list from the beer tasting…wow…just fucking wow!

I would recommend reading all of Michael Jackson’s beer books. I think this is one of his first ones: http://www.amazon.com/Michael-Jacksons-Beer-Companion-Gastronomy/dp/0762402016

Lately I’ve been drinking beers by:

Jolly Pumpkin http://www.jollypumpkin.com/ Their french farmhouse ale (Bam Bière) is incredible

Bear Republic Brewing Co. http://www.bearrepublic.com/ourbeers.php Racer 5 is really good

Stone Brewing Company Stone Brewing Their Arrogant Bastard Ale is one of my all time favorites because the beer is great and I am one

I love beer. Have a bunch of pics at home. No where near as good as JP’s, but I’ll try to post some. I always try and take a pic of every beer I drink.

JP mentioned the Beer Advocate already…it’s a great resource: http://beeradvocate.com/ You used to be able to get a year’s subscription to the print version for like 12 bucks.

In the meantime I’ll just keep doing deadlifts.
