Bauber, you can’t claim Memphis to be the worst when Detroit has already gone to shit because of the government in place… that’s like saying the steak you haven’t tasted yet is better than the steak you’re already eating.

I’m glad folks are enjoying this thread, I found it rather humorous also. But why is that man sitting in a tub/bathroom in his shorts with a beer/40?

Its funny someone comes in and says “look another race thread,” yet the thread is a blatant example of stupidity of said individual, and had the shoe been on the other foot it would be everywhere, all over the news, and Obammy would make a statement regarding the racist, oppressive White American that needs to get past our egotism and elitism.

Treating one people of a specific race different from another… I think they have a word for that.

I wouldn’t say it is the worst, but it is definitely up there. Its saving grace has been FedEx and the economy the river brings through the town. It could really be an amazing city with tons of culture, if we could get some competent leadership.

Take FedEx out of Memphis and you would have a mini Detroit in Memphis.

I <3 FedEx and UPS, those guys/gals work damned hard and I don’t think enough folks thank them for that work.

I felt really bad back when I was building my gym. I ordered a bunch of steel 45’s and the delivery person was a woman. Soon as I saw that and that she didn’t have a dolley I ran out to help her. I apologized and she just kind of smiled as I offered to help get the stuff to my porch. Not saying women can’t handle a couple of 45’s, but she probably only went 115-120lbs, I could have picked her up with the plates and carried her to my porch. But I’m sure the feminists would hate me for being a gentleman.

Detroit has certainly had corrupt governments in place but that is not the major cause of their financial woes. The way legacy costs were figured and a declining tax base resulted in huge debt. Detroit is merely the first city of it’s size to have this trouble, not the last.

They have a declining tax base for a reason though. And that reason lies with the complete ineptness of the powers that be there. And the legacy costs failure is also on them. The blame lies not solely but mostly on the shoulders of those who run and have run the city.

What are you basing the claim of people leaving because of their leaders ineptness on? Crime and no job opportunities sure, but I believe you will find the people of Detroit like their leaders, despite jackasses like Kwame.

The legacy cost issue is because when this was calculated 8% returns were not uncommon. Doesn’t work with 1/2% returns.

Well it isn’t just them we all know government everywhere are in trouble. They are spending too much and the tax revenue just can’t keep up. Especially when you lose the major businesses in your city.

As leaders of a city it is their job to make the city attractive to businesses and bring in jobs, help promote the city, keep it safe, etc. They failed on every one of these things. Now, some may have been out of their control, but the blame still falls on them. Perks of being the boss.

And as for the legacy benefits… I am sorry, but anyone who didn’t see them being a problem in the future is a fool. Large corporations saw that a long time ago and most have shifted to 401K or matching investment type deals. The government? NO WAY. When you refuse to wake up and live in reality and act accordingly even if it isn’t the most popular with your voter base, but will be in their best interest in the long run - you are inept as a leader.
