BCAAs: Up To the Hype?

There’s been a lot of stuff surrounding BCAAs on T-Nation recently - what’re your experiences with BCAAs and leucine? Does this stuff actually work as its advertised or is it a bit of a bust? Should you get BCAAs with all three amino acids or just leucine? I’d like to hear people’s experiences with them.

I think the consensus is that BCAAs are most helpful while cutting to help preserve lean mass.
I don’t think you can expect anything spectacular from BCAAs or Leucine in general without having everything else in order. That goes for a lot of supplements, but don’t expect to see instant results like with creatine, or to feel it like beta-alinine for example.

I notice that if I’ve had a brutal workout or I’m staying sore for longer than I should that some additional BCAAs will heal me up nice and fast.

Yeah, same here. I’m on the V-Diet, and after adding in about 15g BCAA periworkout, DOMS is almost eliminated completely. Thats saying something on an extremely low calorie, low carb diet.

Definatly agree, even when doing hard strongman training and intervals and getting lots of DOMS.
I take a scoop or 2 of gatorade mix, 12 oz of water, 5 g of gluatmine,5 g BCAA and blend. When I take it peri or postworkout I get the same results… no DOMS at all.

You mean the nausea and painful tingling? Those were my gains from beta-alanine.

BCAA’s hype at about just about anything, you better watch what you say about them or they might just bust a cap in your ass, WORD!

aren’t you trying to bulk up B_S_C??

leave teh BCAA for a cut…and just eat! lol

40-45 grams peri workout for me. I’m liking the results.

Just started taking BCAAs around my workout(10g pre and 10g post) and I’ve noticed that I recover a lot better between sets. Liking the BCAAs a lot so far.

They work bro. Increase in endurance during workout and increased muscle repair and growth after provided the rest of your nutrition is dialed in.

I am currently using them pre workout and post workout in addition to Surge and the new L-Leucine Anabolic Food Supplement.

40grams peri workout for me too, and my weight is rocketing up in a good way

I’ve used BCAAs in the past when cutting, and liked the results. Currently take 15g periworkout with an extra 5g of leucine thrown in. My soreness is down, strength up, endurance up, and energy up. I think overall I just look more ‘solid’ and dense.

Yep, trying to bulk. I was just wondering why everyone had been talking about BCAAs so much, I wasn’t even sure what they were used for. Still eating lots, although I’m not sure if my weight is supposed to be going up or remaining level for a while and then increasing. But that’s a topic for another thread.
